How much did you spend on your summer holiday? (And where did you go)

Just because I'm curious. We had a week in Europe but stayed with family so no accommodatione whole week came to around just under £1000, including eurotunnel, petrol, theme park tickets, meals out and me stocking up a car boot full of foreign sweets, beauty products, etc.

And then i took the dc camping for 3 nights in the uk which somehow burnt through money - £39 per night just to pitch a tent, plus food, etc. It just felt like a really expensive way to spend 3 days shivering in the rain and not getting any sleep.

Can you tell us the name of the hotel @TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon it sounds brilliant!

Of course!

Hotel Haymon in Seefeld in Tirol.

It was recommended to me on Mumsnet! Tbh, for the price I was imagining the food to be a bit basic, but it was probably the most gourmet food I've ever had!

GreyDuck · 03/09/2023 23:17

2 adults, one child.
About £250 for 5 nights (campsite was £25/night, plus diesel and a few meals out. No paid activities, just met with friends). Had a fabulous time.
About £500 on long weekend camping at a uk festival . (Tickets, travel and food).
Also spent £250 on upgrading our camping equipment.

Forevermermaid · 03/09/2023 23:25

Me and my two DC shared a lovely caravan with my sister and her two DC on the south coast for a week. We paid £500 each, I spent about £500 during the week including petrol, food, trips etc.

My first summer holiday as a single parent - and it was the best one ever Smile

Also did a three day festival with friends (ticket £200, spent £200) and a three day trip with my lovely new DP exploring castles - total cost £300. Still buzzing about it all!

Octosaurus · 03/09/2023 23:42

£2.6k, 2 adults, turkey.

ExperiencedTeacher · 03/09/2023 23:43

Family member spent £40k+ on taking a big group of us to the Caribbean, all inclusive for 2 weeks. We were incredibly spoilt and are very very grateful.

Our usual holiday is a caravan or cottage in Cornwall/Devon/Wales for a week, spending around £1500 total.

we didn’t get it this year, but we also usually get a few nights camping in too for a couple of hundred.

Yellowflower47 · 03/09/2023 23:45

2 adults and a baby under 1yo.
Cornwall for 3 nights - £1200.
Majorca for 7 nights - £2000.
London for the weekend - £1600.
Tenerife for 7 nights - £2500 for flights and hotel HB, budgeting for spends of approx. £750.
Disneyland Paris for 4 nights - £1700 for flights, hotel and park tickets, budgeting for spends of approx. £1000. Haven’t been in years so this may be a low estimate but not an issue if it’s more.

I am amazed at how much people spend. For a week or 2 weeks!

That amount could put your DC through private school! Priorities and all that

£5000 on 2 week cruise around the Mediterranean for 2 adults, 3 kids. Amazing weather and amazing experience.

Stayfreshcheesebag · 04/09/2023 00:00

£1200 on a beautiful 2 bed apartment in Tuscany with shared pool for a week, for four. £350 on eurotunnel, plus fuel and tolls. £120 overnight stays. About £200 eating out, but mostly cooked at home, so standard shopping bill really. Plus probably another £200 on gallery admission and random shopping.

Good value and had a fantastic time. Actually a bit too hot! 🥵🌞

6k, Turkey, 7 of us, 2 weeks.
Never again. Lovely scenery and beaches but we went to Dalyan which I assumed wouldn't be so "Brits Abroad" as say Marmaris and more tranquil. I was very disappointed. Also visited Orka water park - all English, all on the beer, dubious health & safety. I also found some of the Turkish men/waiters to be very misogynistic. Maybe I didn't see the best bits but not a place I'll return to. My 19 year old said he'd go back with his mates which summed it up.

I have been to Turunc and it was actually lovely. Absolutely no dubious males to report!!

Bigminnie1 · 04/09/2023 00:06

One week all inclusive in Turkey for two adults and one child plus we rented a car . It was £3,500 altogether. It was relaxing and the hotel was nice with good food.

CPLawyer · 04/09/2023 00:13

£26k plus spending for a multi centre Maldives/Dubai trip. 2 adults, 1 child and an infant. Most expensive cost was the flights as we decided to fly business for convenience with the toddler which we never usually do as I normally think it's a rip off. I still think business pricing is outrageous but it did make life a lot easier and I will miss it next time 😭

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 04/09/2023 00:17

I didn't go away at all this year. If we were to go away, we go in fall, when the leaves are changing.

£5000 on 2 week cruise around the Mediterranean for 2 adults, 3 kids. Amazing weather and amazing experience.

Can I ask which one you did? DH is very keen on trying one someday.

NorthWestThree · 04/09/2023 07:09

10 days on the Kent coast, 5 of us. About 1500 all in, including meals out, activities (safari parks are mad money just to get in!!!) groceries etc

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/09/2023 07:15

A week in a Eurocamp cabin (fancy static!) in the Netherlands - £1200 (great park in a great location)

Hull - Rotterdam ferry, return, overnight crossings with cabin for 2 adults + 2 teens, plus van - £1100 (!!!!!!)

About £500 on eating out for about half our meals.

£90 for a tank of fuel, which did the whole journey including a couple of days out.

So around £2500 for 9 nights away. We were very lucky with the weather. Would have been a bit grim in the rain!

bluejay5 · 04/09/2023 07:22
