How much did you spend on your summer holiday? (And where did you go)

Just because I'm curious. We had a week in Europe but stayed with family so no accommodatione whole week came to around just under £1000, including eurotunnel, petrol, theme park tickets, meals out and me stocking up a car boot full of foreign sweets, beauty products, etc.

And then i took the dc camping for 3 nights in the uk which somehow burnt through money - £39 per night just to pitch a tent, plus food, etc. It just felt like a really expensive way to spend 3 days shivering in the rain and not getting any sleep.

£5k two weeks on Greek mainland, self catering but ate out for all but breakfasts and the odd picnic on the beach. Includes spending and car hire etc.

Ylvamoon · 03/09/2023 22:16

4 nights in Norfolk in a static caravan
£400.- plus about another £100.- for food and £120.- for petrol.

So a rough total of £600.- for August.

2 Adults, 2 Children and 2 dogs.
But all we did was going to the beach or walking leisurely along the costal path!

kitsuneghost · 03/09/2023 22:17

LibrarianByDay · 03/09/2023 22:20

Camping for a fortnight on the South Coast with my older teens.
£350 - campsite
£600 - food and outings (I think most of that was spent on ice-cream)

Oh wow, enjoy your 2 days of tranquility after the family holiday - this is a genius idea for when my dc eventually grow up (assuming they'll still want to holiday with us)

Aah thank you…really feel I have earned it 😊

Whatawasteofmoney · 03/09/2023 22:22

The entity of £79 I booked a caravan in Norfolk just after Christmas, the caravan was horrible but it was my daughter's first holiday and it was wonderful. Spending money we spent our usual food budget plus about £200 on stuff like a donkey ride etc.
We had planned to go abroad but it just felt too much effort, glad we opted for the UK this year instead.

Crikeyalmighty · 03/09/2023 22:28

£3300 - Cyprus 4 star s/c for 2 adults 2 teens for 2 weeks.

Not bad for August but I think we got a price glitch as the day before and after it cost over a grand more.

MojoMum · 03/09/2023 22:32

6k, Turkey, 7 of us, 2 weeks.
Never again. Lovely scenery and beaches but we went to Dalyan which I assumed wouldn't be so "Brits Abroad" as say Marmaris and more tranquil. I was very disappointed. Also visited Orka water park - all English, all on the beer, dubious health & safety. I also found some of the Turkish men/waiters to be very misogynistic. Maybe I didn't see the best bits but not a place I'll return to. My 19 year old said he'd go back with his mates which summed it up.

Wow I'm in awe of some of these holiday budgets!

Me too. Some of them are close to my entire annual income!

PricklyWhenWet · 03/09/2023 22:34

We must have spent at least £12000 on two holidays this year, a week in the States and a week in Devon. Both very different holidays and some wonderful memories made, we are very lucky we could do it this year.

Louise295 · 03/09/2023 22:34

Spending money was around £1200 for our UK main week caravan holiday I think it was about £350 for the site and about £100 fuel on top, we've also had a second holiday again UK caravan site and fuel was around the same but we spent about £600 over 8 days 2 adults 2dc 4and 7

ElleDeeCB · 03/09/2023 22:53

£1950 for 7 nights on the Ile de Re last week of August for 3 (2 adults one child).

£700 Accommodation in self catered apartment in small holiday ‘village’ with outdoor heated pool. Was lovely.
£750 Eurostar (this was too much as we booked v last minute, could have been £450)
£200 train fare in France (again should have been a bit cheaper but we booked late)
£350 spending money as we mostly ate in the apartment / picnics (French bakery and produce is lovely but not keen on the Fine Dining as we are veggie). Also transport around the island is very cheap (or even free!) buses.

I think we will go to the same place again next year

Plantymcplantface · 03/09/2023 22:54

£1500 (£350 ferry, £600 eurocamp, rest spending money) for 10 nights in France self catering/glamping for 4, plus two airbnbs there and back. Inclusive of all spending money. Next to beach, weather was glorious.

Redwineislife · 03/09/2023 22:56

Fuerterventura 10 nights all inclusive £3k for 2 adults and 2 children. Money well spent, amazing location, food, facilities and weather 🙂

UncleBryn · 03/09/2023 21:15

2 adults 2 teens, £3k AI in Majorca in July flying from local airport. We planned to eat out some nights but didn't bother as food was so good. Spent hardly anything there.

@UncleBryn How on Earth was this so cheap? Seems very good value. Would you mind sharing which company you went with? I paid more than this for self catering!

SendARavenToRiverRun · 03/09/2023 20:48

7 days in Cornwall. Accommodation was about £800. Spent about £1000.
We've had massive issues with the accommodation so we're being issued a full refund. Very happy with that!

Cornwall is so expensive. It cost me over £8 for 4 cans of coke from a beach stall today. I almost died!

I was quoted £3.50 for one can of coke from a takeaway last week. Now that shocked me. #London

Shmithecat2 · 03/09/2023 22:58

We did 4 nights/5 days on the Broads. Including boat hire and spends, about £2k. Loved it so much, we're planning to go for longer next year on a bigger boat.

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 03/09/2023 22:13

A week in the Austrian Tyrol. Half board (and amazing food with a 4 course dinner every night) for £1200 for DD and I. Not including flights which were about £150 in total. Took £200 in cash but didn't spend it all as the food was so good and plentiful we only really ate cake or ice-cream during the day.

Can you tell us the name of the hotel @TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon it sounds brilliant!

thunderandsunshine01 · 03/09/2023 23:10

First sunny hol abroad as a family (and mine and DH first time abroad together ever!) 4* hotel.
