How much did you spend on your summer holiday? (And where did you go)

Just because I'm curious. We had a week in Europe but stayed with family so no accommodatione whole week came to around just under £1000, including eurotunnel, petrol, theme park tickets, meals out and me stocking up a car boot full of foreign sweets, beauty products, etc.

And then i took the dc camping for 3 nights in the uk which somehow burnt through money - £39 per night just to pitch a tent, plus food, etc. It just felt like a really expensive way to spend 3 days shivering in the rain and not getting any sleep.

Flights with Air Mauritius, 7 nights AI including watersports, snorkelling, glass bottom boat, windsurfing, kayaking, a la carte and cocktails, taxi transfers, 2 5* star hotels, view of beach from room, £5,100 for DD 17 and I and then 100 euros airport lounge, excursion to island 40 plus 70 taxi and 8th night close to airport for 129, insurance 120.

DrasticAction · 03/09/2023 21:14

UncleBryn · 03/09/2023 21:15

2 adults 2 teens, £3k AI in Majorca in July flying from local airport. We planned to eat out some nights but didn't bother as food was so good. Spent hardly anything there.

Silkiebunny · 03/09/2023 21:15

Mauritius, Long Beach and Sugar Beach hotels.

LegendsBeyond · 03/09/2023 21:17

£900 for a week in a cottage in Devon. About £750 spending money. We ate out for lunch & dinner every day & went out for drinks in the evening. Had a great time.

MarvellousMinnie · 03/09/2023 21:18

Bali - £22k for four of us, our last proper holiday before Uni etc so definitely pushed the boat out, business class flights etc.
I'm sure it won't happen again in my lifetime but those memories are irreplaceable and well worth the eye watering cost, feeling very grateful to be able to do it due to inheritance.

gogomoto · 03/09/2023 21:18

£2000 Ibiza 10 days including a festival but term time, 2 adults. Just booked 14 day ai cruise for £3200 for 2, also term time. The advantage of adult children (they don't come and we now have surplus money for fun!)

Self catering in a beautiful, quiet cottage in Suffolk. The silence, sitting in the garden ( apart from the occasional RAF plane) was amazing. Deer, hares, squirrels and birds. £1100 for the two of us, plus a couple of meals out and usual food spend, plus diesel.
This was chosen over a £5,000 trip to Majorca. Nice hotel, but not £5,000 nice!

Bananaspliff · 03/09/2023 21:20

2 adults 2 kids
14 nights in Menorca, first two weeks of August, room only Jet2 package was £3,200 plus spending money approx £1,700.

6 nights in Billund, Denmark last week came in at about £2,000 all in for flights, accommodation, food and attraction tickets.

Barbados - 20 days, apartment, car hire, food and trips for family with 2 teens. ~9-10k

Icequeen01 · 03/09/2023 21:22

We had a villa with private pool in Crete. We don't have young children but DS23 joined us this year. We have to go in August as DH and I work in schools. I think including spending money we spent about £7000. Eek!

ChicagoBears · 03/09/2023 21:23

We were very lucky this year to have been able to make a few trips away:

3 weeks in Florida (Orlando, Key West and Miami) - £14k (including spending money)
1 week Cornwall - £4K
3 nights Dorset - £1k

JewelDragon · 03/09/2023 21:25

5.6K all in.
3 weeks in Costa Rica, 3 of us (2 teens but adult rates).
Pricey country so backpacking and mostly self catering to allow as many activities as possible.
Awesome holiday.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 03/09/2023 21:40

About 2k for me/ daughter half board in hotel New Town benidorm the last 2 half terms .
Btw wouldn't do New Town any time soon

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 03/09/2023 21:41

9k on a 10 night med cruise, plus 3 nights in Venice afterwards. Including airport hotel, transfers and flights, food, drinks, excursions and spending (cruise was AI). This was for 2 adults and 2 teens.

It felt like a lot, but was likely our last family holiday before our youngest starts uni this year. Also reading some of you have spent 3k on a week in the UK, it actually feels like excellent value.

I'm looking forward to holidays being cheaper as kids are grown and flown. No more school holiday bookings for us! Holidays are really important to me. I could spend more on things like cars, furnishings, clothes, home help like cleaner/gardener but prefer to live pretty frugally and have holidays.

I'm going to visit family in Europe next month for a few days, that may be £600 with travel and spending money.

Then I have planned a week in th canaries in early December. I'm looking forward to a really chill holiday before the winter really sets in. The cruise/Venice was exciting but not relaxing

Vinniepolis · 03/09/2023 21:43

August £5200 for 7 days all inclusive in Majorca, 3 adults one child (2 rooms). Includes a few extra activities/car hire etc. We enjoyed similar in 2019 for prob £1500 less.
