How much did you spend on your summer holiday? (And where did you go)

Just because I'm curious. We had a week in Europe but stayed with family so no accommodatione whole week came to around just under £1000, including eurotunnel, petrol, theme park tickets, meals out and me stocking up a car boot full of foreign sweets, beauty products, etc.

And then i took the dc camping for 3 nights in the uk which somehow burnt through money - £39 per night just to pitch a tent, plus food, etc. It just felt like a really expensive way to spend 3 days shivering in the rain and not getting any sleep.

7 nights in Crete. £2800 for villa, £1200 flights €350 car hire In august 2 adults 2dc's. Spent about €750 - eating out very cheap. Worth every penny, very relaxing and no fighting for sunloungers.

We had 3 beach holidays in Spain this year. They cost about 8.5k plus spends. My husband pays and wants 3 holidays. I'd be happy with one and would rather pay money off the mortgage.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 04/09/2023 07:54

In August a week all inclusive in Spain, 2A 1C £2500

Coming up in October, a week AI in Caribbean 3A1C £5500

We usually go camping but this year we thought sod that!

itsgettingweird · 04/09/2023 07:54

Week in CP - me and ds.

£1000 for accommodation
£150 activities.
£200 eating out and drinks, sweets etc.

Took food to self cater breakfast and lunch so that didn't add cost as we'd do that at home

So £1350 for a week SC for 2 of us.

Titsywoo · 04/09/2023 07:59

A week holiday cost us £8k. It was in an adult only (dc are both older teens) very nice hotel in Tenerife. Sounds a lot but it was a one off for us after 2 lots of big exams for DC and a hellish couple of years. Normally we go on holiday in the UK. It was relaxing and lovely!

sezzer87 · 04/09/2023 08:25

We went to Spain eurocamp, pool, private beach and restaurants it was lovely. All in we spent £2300 for 10 days. That included accommodation, meals out, fuel (we drove) ferry, tolls and 2 hotels for the travel.

chatenoire · 03/09/2023 21:09

About £7k on a 13 day trip to Europe. We stayed at eurocamps, 2 adults, 4 children. Total rip off and wouldn't do it again

£7k for eurocamp?? We just did 10 days in Spain eurocamp for 5 of us and it cost us £2300 that included accommodation, fuel, hotels, ferry, tolls and meals out. It was amazing with a pool and private beach.

We were very lucky this year to have been able to make a few trips away:

3 weeks in Florida (Orlando, Key West and Miami) - £14k (including spending money)
1 week Cornwall - £4K
3 nights Dorset - £1k

£4k on a week in cornwall?...why??

Alarae · 04/09/2023 08:48

Long weekend in Essex. Airbnb, beach hut hire and food probably came to about £600.

After that, long weekend for DH's birthday with the family. We didn't actually end up paying towards accommodation but paid for two nights of dinners (one night was a personal chef for DH's birthday) which basically paid our share! That cost about £1,000 (85% chef expenses...)

My main holiday with DD was back in May, which was a week in Spain. That cost about £1,000 as it was all inclusive and didn't really buy any extras.

About 10K, 2 weeks in Portugal. 2 nights in a serviced apartment and 12 in a villa, car hire, flights, airport parking, spending money. 5 of us but we have gone in with family for the villa, it’s very luxurious though! We would normally spend about 7K on a 2 week summer holiday with just the 5 of us.

popandchoc · 04/09/2023 10:44

1 week in Turkey all inclusive in Aug for myself and two children (12 and 8). iT was just under £3000.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 04/09/2023 10:55

10 days in Greece, which was probably with flights, food, accommodation, ferry tickets and museums about £2k for 2 people

Scotland for 10 days which will be about £1k all told for 2 people

lavenderlou · 04/09/2023 12:07

2k for ferry (long crossing both ways) to France then a week on a big campsite in our own caravan followed by a week in a cottage. Spent around £850 when we were there on food/petrol/days out, which did include a very expensive theme park day out. We don't eat out much though so food costs were mainly supermarket. Would have been a lot cheaper if we did the short Dover-Calais crossing but that involved a lot more driving so we prefer to pay more for the longer ferry crossing.

lavenderlou · 04/09/2023 12:08

Should have said that's 2 adults and 2 children.

£6500 for 2 adults on a 9 day Mediterranean cruise and a bit earlier in the summer one week in Turkey for £2500.

Nw22 · 04/09/2023 12:26

@sezzer87 ive paid more than that for a week in Cornwall next July but it’s a beach front house which our dog will love.

crackofdoom · 04/09/2023 12:26

Our "summer" holiday was in fact at Easter. £1600 for 2 weeks Interrailing around Europe- Brussels, Innsbruck, Venice, Rome, Genoa, Paris and back. That only includes travel and accommodation though. "Extras"(cable car in Austria, comics museum in Brussels, maritime museum in Genova) were about £100. Food I find a difficult one, because you also pay to eat at home, no? We did a lot of self catering- also ate a LOT of pizza in Italy, but it's very cheap, about £20-30 per meal for the 3 of us.

This summer we camped in Dorset for 5 days. The campsite was £16 per night (and lovely!), and we mostly brought a load of food with us. Ate out once, for about £30. £20 for various car parks (mostly Lulworth Cove 🙄), £34 for the Tank Musem, and about £70 in diesel. So about £230- 240 in total.

Then I took just DS1 to a one day festival in Bristol, with some time for exploring. Festival tickets £90, 2 nights AirBnB £90, diesel about £70-80, and we ate out 3 times (!!!)- £70. So about £320?

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 04/09/2023 12:31

We had a week, self catering at Tenerife during the summer holidays.

£800 each for flight and apartment (3 of us, 2 adults and 1 child)
£500 each for food, taxi's and days out etc

Scotstots · 04/09/2023 12:37

2 weeks in Andalucia travelling around a bit, was 4.5k for flights and accommodation, probably spent about 1.5k when there

DominoRules · 04/09/2023 12:40

We had 2 weeks in France travelling around and I think spent about 7k overall, 2 adults and 2 teens. Stayed in a mix of Airbnb and hotels, was really lovely.

Then about 2k on a week in Suffolk, we had a great house with a big garden for the dog and mostly ate out

MintJulia · 04/09/2023 12:43

£600 for a week in a cottage in Herefordshire, plus a few activities - about £750 in total, for me & DS.

£26k plus spending for a multi centre Maldives/Dubai trip. 2 adults, 1 child and an infant. Most expensive cost was the flights as we decided to fly business for convenience with the toddler which we never usually do as I normally think it's a rip off. I still think business pricing is outrageous but it did make life a lot easier and I will miss it next time 😭

@CPLawyer which hotels did you stay in in Dubai and the Maldives please? We are hoping to do a similar trip with our infant next year. We’ve done Dubai a few times before children but never done the Maldives so looking for recommendations.

Iliketulips · 04/09/2023 12:47

We did have a couple of nights away but that was for essential purposes (DD graduating over 300 miles away), so don't really count that as a break.

We spent four nights camping which was around £100 plus a meal out and one or two ice cream/cake treats.

Going away next week - three nights in caravan overlooking the sea £345.

Happy with the above, it's just nice to get away.

Cinnamonandcoal · 04/09/2023 12:48

About £5.5k for two weeks in Portugal, including flights, two nice airbnbs with sea views, lots of eating out and car hire. Two adults and two primary aged kids.

Thing that struck me was how much more expensive it is eating out now both kids are old enough to order a proper meal. Also that the £/€ rates are not helpful.

Had a brilliant time and it was a lot less than the resorts I was looking at £8k-12k.
