Whether it’s personal or well known, which unsolved case makes your brain sound like dial up?

For years, mine was the Delphi Murders. I almost lost my mind when someone was arrested last year!

Starlia · 04/09/2023 09:54

Some Australian ones….

William Tyrell went missing from the yard of his foster grandmother’s home. I think the police now believe that he had an accident (such as falling off the balcony upstairs) and that the foster family covered it up to avoid getting into trouble. I’ve listened to a podcast about it and have to agree. Interesting that the foster mother pled guilty to assaulting another child in court just today. The poor little vulnerable boy in a Spider-Man costume is just so sad.

Some hold serious doubt about the guilt of the man convicted of killing Peter Falconio. Having watched a documentary about it, I would have to agree. I don’t blame Joanne Lees for the way she acted afterwards- we don’t truly know how we will act in that situation. I think what people were reacting to was the generally off feeling that just radiated from her. Lots of people just didn’t buy the story she was selling.

"Adam" the "torso in the Thames" just the thought of tiny child murdered so horrifically and no one missing him or looking for him.

Was that the one where the child had been trafficked for organs, or ritual sacrifice? That was absolutely disgusting. He was around the same age as me, and like me, he should be alive too. Absolute evil people

I think law enforcement dropped the ball on this one - they should have solved it much earlier. Who knows whether he's killed again, since?

My goodness. It’s only recently that Foster Families are being heavily monitored. I knew someone who fostered children ONLY because she got money from the government. She did nothing but complain about these children and hand them off to others to look after, meanwhile spending the money that was meant for them. A family member reported her and she stopped getting children placed with her. Luckily those children were well looked after by her relatives during their time in her “care”, and were always part of the family, even after they found their forever. She was just an evil person who knew how to act motherly. The government didn’t really look passed that back then.

That poor little boy 💔

I must look into Peter Falconio. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of his case.

She was psychotic- that's what happens. No mystery.

Yeah, I think it's accepted that she was probably unwell, mentally but that still doesn't explain how she could have ended up in the water tank without someone putting her in there.

She got in it herself. Maybe to hide from whatever she thought was chasing her. She was psychotic. Not exhibiting rational behaviour. She got in. Or fell in of her own accord. Sad but there is no mystery surrounding what happened in my opinion

HoogahToogah · 04/09/2023 10:10

The Idaho 4 students killed last year scares me so much, the creepiness factor of it is off the charts. From what I have read in the affadavit, I do believe Kohberger is guilty, but if he is found to be innocent, then I can't imagine what that will do to the families

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 04/09/2023 10:14

@Tambatamba

Oh absolutely. They literally interviewed him at the time and didn't make the connection for five years!

Another case that plays on my mind is Alan Holmes. He died after being found tied to his bed for nine days after his flat was burgled. He was still alive when he was found but died the next day. Such a horrific way to die and it's still unsolved.

Oh my god that case is so scary! Aside from the absolute tragedy of those who were killed, I really feel for their poor roommate who was crucified for not leaving her bedroom. She said she heard what she thought was someone crying, and saw someone unfamiliar, but got scared and locked herself in her room.

So many people acted like she was as bad as the killer for not doing anything, when she did everything she could while keeping herself safe. A lot of keyboard warriors crying “well I would have done this!” as if they could ever imagine being in such a situation as a young, frightened person.

@Gymmum82 apparently the lid of this thing would have been too heavy for her to lift by herself though.

I think, if she was in psychosis, she could have lifted it enough to slip in. People can display incredible feats of strength when under duress, when adrenaline spikes. I’ve read that our brains stop us from using our full strength so we don’t injure ourselves, but when our brain is ill or in fight/flight, those restrictions switch off.

I could totally imagine her being able to lift it just enough to get herself into it. She was small and slim, so it wouldn’t have taken much.

Dyatlov pass incident will never stop me wondering. The whole group of 9 or even 11 young experienced skiers was killed by something very mysterious. All the small details you read about, the state of the bodies (missing tongue in one of the victims) , radiation, why they had to leave their tent so urgently, so they did not have time to put on their boots in freezing conditions.. and ultimately what killed them? We shall never know

LylaLee · 04/09/2023 10:20

Tambatamba · 04/09/2023 10:14

From a Google result re 'superhuman strength in psychosis': it is not "superhuman strength” at all; it’s something that anyone is theoretically capable of. When we’re high on adrenaline—very frightened, very angry—we ignore the possibility of injury and use the maximum power of our muscles. Someone who is mentally ill may enter that state occasionally, if their emotions are strong enough. It’s the same sort of strength that would let a young mother lift a car off her injured child, the same sort of strength displayed by someone who’s high on some illegal drugs. Of course, they do risk injury when this happens, and are in fact very likely to strain muscles, break bones, and bruise themselves all over.

It was left open according to the documentary

I will not explain this well, but I read something recently about a female body being found, not sure when, possibly in Poland. I think she was thought to have been a spy?

Anyone know the case I mean? Blush

If it’s the one I’m thinking of @excelledyourself there’s a podcast called Death in Ice Valley about it - fascinating.

That's a myth. The lid was open when she was found, and some YouTubers snuck in after she died and filmed themselves accessing the roof (which was still unlocked and easily accessible, even then) and opening and closing the lid. It wasn't heavy since it was hinged.

(missing tongue in one of the victims)
The bodies weren't discovered till months later. Leave a body lying in wilderness for months, soft tissue will have started to decay or been eaten. Very very normal and not a sign of anything weird. The radiation was also normal for the time and where some of them worked. A lot of stuff about Dylatov was made up or exaggerated after the fact.

Sweetener12 · 04/09/2023 10:48

Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon disappearance, I remember reading about this case so much I could make a whole smartshow 3d video about it and present it to anyone who would listen.
Awful tragedy, but I don't think it would be solved ever :(

Does anyone remember the Springfield 3 case? A Mum, Daughter and her Daughter's friend (who was sleeping over) all vanished from the house. This happened over 30 years ago and no trace has ever been found of them?

The daughter and her friend had planned to visit a water park the next day. Friends went round in the morning and found them all gone. The only evidence was smashed glass on the porch light and a message on the answerphone. Unfortunately, one of the friends wiped the message so it will never be known if it was important to the disappearance or not, or indeed, if the friend who wiped the message was involved in some way.

Loopylooni · 04/09/2023 11:14

@HoogahToogah dont they believe the killer is linked to the surviving roommate somehow?

Wayne trotter he was set on fire in 2002 and still no one has been arrested for it it's local to me and there were names of people being mentioned but no one has ever been caught for it

Ah I didn't know that. Obviously a case of her not being well then. It's not kind for people to spread misinformation to make it into something it really wasn't.

Pebblesflintstoneandbambamrubble · 04/09/2023 12:43

Helen mccourt
She vanished down the road to home
The landlord of the pub (George and dragon?)was as guilty as hell but they can't prove it
Her body has never been found-her poor mum has spent years trying
I read her book and I wish her all the best

Tambatamba · 04/09/2023 12:51

Natalie Putt - disappeared about 20 years ago. The last person to see her was her boyfriend whom she had split up with and he wasn't happy about it. According to him, she went missing on her way to a petrol station, but it seems far more likely that he murdered her. She was never found despite many searches and left behind a baby son.

BasicPumpkinSpice · 04/09/2023 13:02

LollipopChaos · 03/09/2023 17:49

Gerry Largay - the lady walking the Appalachian Trail... She went into a bush to have a wee and ended up getting lost and was found years later. Never understood how on earth this tragic situation happened.

You don't have to go very far in the wilderness to get disoriented and lose your way. It's really common for people to get lost this way. This is why it is recommended to "hug a tree" so rescue parties have a chance to find you.
