DH has ruined the house

He's tidied and cleared out the garage, so he can put an office in there. But we are left with a load of garage crap dumped in the house. I currently have suitcases at the bottom of the stairs, boxes and bags of stuff in the kitchen and on the sofa. The dining room table has water pistols and tennis rackets on it. I'm supposed to be wfh. I can only hope he plans to sort all this stuff but to where I don't know as there is literally no where for it to go

Why are you hoping? Get the bugger told.

Or tell him to take the lot to the skip.

Janieforever · 01/09/2023 09:08

How do you not know what he plans to do and are just hoping?

CwmYoy · 01/09/2023 09:08

Put it back in the garage.

EquallyDetermined · 01/09/2023 09:09

Put it all back in the garage

MadamWhiteleigh · 01/09/2023 09:10

Loft? Shes? Local tip?

Why don’t you just ask him what his plan is?

CoteDOpale · 01/09/2023 09:10

What do you mean by you’re ‘hoping’ he plans to put it back?

Have you not asked him? Communicating might help.

midgemadgemodge · 01/09/2023 09:10

Well I am guessing that during the conversion there will be chaos / you just need to check that the conversion of garage to office will include the necessary storage for stuff

He's hardly ruined the house though- it's still standing

Augustone · 01/09/2023 09:11

Get hold of his garage keys , lock ot up then hide them.
He can have then back when he has dealt with the mess and either stored it away, taken to the charity shop or binned it

YourNameGoesHere · 01/09/2023 09:12

He's hardly ruined it, so no need for the daft title.

Making changes to a home is always going to lead to some disruption surely all you need to do is ask what his plans are for the items he's moved? Communication is a wonderful thing.

LunaNorth · 01/09/2023 09:14

Ah, the aftermath of a man job.

Get him told.

Rabbitingonandon · 01/09/2023 09:15

There is literally shit everywhere, it looks like we are in the process of moving in. We have an important meeting this morning so I'm not mentioning the mess until later this afternoon. He will get pissed off when I mention it/,it will cause an argument. No idea what he is planning to do with it all or put it. Im fuming

LubaLuca · 01/09/2023 09:15

He's made a mess, he hasn't blown the gable end off.

Tell him to get it organised.

Strugglingtodomybest · 01/09/2023 09:16

Asking him his plans will cause an argument? Why?

YourNameGoesHere · 01/09/2023 09:18

Why will it cause an argument? It's a perfectly reasonable question. If he flies off the handle at at a simple question maybe the next question should be how can I leave this relationship.

Totalwasteofpaper · 01/09/2023 09:18

Well talk to him first.
My personal method is i move all the crap back into his space ie his office

Aquamarine1029 · 01/09/2023 09:20

If having a normal conversation and asking legitimate questions causes an argument, you have bigger problems than the tat in your house.

Ok, there is obviously a back story here, are you in an abusive relationship? It is completely not normal or healthy to be unable to discuss this with your own husband. It’s a perfectly normal and reasonable question.

WhatNoRaisins · 01/09/2023 09:21

You really need to be able to talk about these things OP.

TropicalTrama · 01/09/2023 09:23

Sounds like you have bigger problems than the stuff everywhere if you’re bracing for an argument. DH recently cleared out the eaves storage, left piles of crap and it was like a 2 minute conversation- yes I’ll book a slot at the tip this afternoon but wanted to check that you were in agreement with what was going first.

mrsm43s · 01/09/2023 09:24

I really don't understand all the drama here. Surely everyone realises that clearing out/decluttering causes an initial mess before everything gets sorted through and put away?

Converting the garage to an office seems to me to be a great idea if you are both working from home. So, yes, junk that's accumulated in there needs to be sorted through, thrown out or put away somewhere else, and that process does take time, and does create some disorder. It's just part of the process.

I would think it's the whole family who has stored stuff in the garage, so the whole family should pitch in and sort their stuff and find homes for any of their own things they want to keep. Everything else to the tip.

Bananalanacake · 01/09/2023 09:25

Do you actually want the stuff, if not put it on freecycle, saying stuff outside X address help yourselves, so you don't have to faff about arranging pick up times. If you are scared of his reaction you have other problems.

ProfessorInkling · 01/09/2023 09:26

Do you usually communicate well together?

I think there drama is down what the OP says: "He will get pissed off when I mention it/,it will cause an argument."

HRHTheDuchessOfBotox · 01/09/2023 09:56

Put it all on his side of the bed.

RJnomore1 · 01/09/2023 09:56

He’s made an office, you wfh why does it sound as though the items on the dining table are an issue for your working? Or am I misunderstanding?
