.....it's either golf or cycling. And have if a partner who does one of these things will definitely not "out" you. Promise.

I wish, mine is just on the internet.

Whatsthepoint1234 · 29/08/2023 18:10

I think my dh is a cyborg… he actively detests the Lycra brigade and thinks golf isn’t a ‘real sport’ - he likes spending ridiculous amounts of money on trains and obscure fantasy board and card games instead. I wish he liked golf…

Sajacas · 29/08/2023 18:10

I wish, mine is just on the internet.

Dh used to be a twitter nut but has now taken to complaining about the idiots on mastodon and threads instead. As if I have any interest in some crazy man with his tin foil hat posting from a shed in Missouri!?

husbandcallsmepickle · 29/08/2023 18:13

My DH hobby is music, particularly playing the guitar. No interest in golf or cycling.

Ozziedream · 29/08/2023 18:15

In my extended friendship group of say 20 couples, 19 of the men cycle. It would be more outing to NOT be a cyclist

LindorDoubleChoc · 29/08/2023 18:15

My dh's hobbies are football and singing in a choir. So don't get your knickers in a twist about it.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 29/08/2023 18:17

Mine plays Warhammer and Magic:The Gathering.

CurlewKate · 29/08/2023 18:18

I agree-mine is into playing the guitar, being a Scout leader and sailing, but whenever someone on here says "he goes out to do his hobby every Sunday morning" you just know it's one of those! I was cruelly amused by someone today carefully saying "his hobby" throughout a long post then accidentally typing "golf"....

I don't think I've ever said "hobby" about an adult's activities.....

ConnieTucker · 29/08/2023 18:24

Mine plays boardgames with his friend that last hours. They cycle the sessions through their homes.

he is approaching 50 and his stomach is large enough for me to worry about his health, and I now wish he would get back on his bike or pick up some golf clubs. I tried to sign us uo for crown green bowling but the beginners session clashed with various activities of our children.

ConnieTucker · 29/08/2023 18:25

That should have said friends, not friend. Group of them playing board games for hours.

TeenDivided · 29/08/2023 18:26

My DH does his 'hobby' 4 mornings a week, and another 'hobby' another 2 mornings. Neither are golf nor cycling.

Clearly I now know exactly who you are! 🤔🤣

ZolaBudd · 29/08/2023 18:27

or it somsething sad like model trains or cosplay or clay pigeon

I think 'hobby' may also be used as a euphemism for a man who is into either model or steam railways? But perhaps that's more likely to be a DF than a DH?

EversoDetermined · 29/08/2023 18:32

I used to agree with you until the day someone I know IRL through a shared hobby (which is not an unusual one) outed herself to me on here by mentioning one specific thing about our group. Now I refer to it as my hobby.

cctvrec · 29/08/2023 18:34

Eh? My husband's hobby is gold panning. He also goes out very early on the weekend for it.
Totally not something outing as pretty much everyone does it, right? Same as his metal detecting.
I will also say, he has never ever played golf and the closest he gets to a bicycle is putting our son's away when it's left in the garden.

CurlewKate · 29/08/2023 18:46

@cctvrec wow! I want to know all about the gold panning now! Does he find much? I suppose it must be in Wales.....Damn, I suppose you can't answer that!
I do have a hobby myself- the only reason I wouldn't mention is it because I would DIE of embarassment if anybody outside a tiny circle found out!

Damn right, give me my name, address, surname and passport number!! 😁

Luckily judging by the sheer number of middle aged men he gossips with on British rail enthusiast Facebook groups there are at least 15k people just like him (and all of his in real life friends) so unless your husband collects famous actors underwear or plays the lute naked in the town square you don’t have to worry…

isthismylifenow · 29/08/2023 19:10

They are sports imo. Hobbies are things like stamp collecting and aeroplane spotting.

Every time I see a post about DH and his hobby, I get the urge to post, did you mean to say dh's sport.

Also football, rugby, running, fishing...

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 29/08/2023 19:14

It could be dogging. I like to swing in by with my username and remind people of that sometimes.

ZolaBudd · 29/08/2023 19:15

Mine used to kayak. At night. My mum was Zola... are you SURE>>>

yes, yes i was

WelshNerd · 29/08/2023 19:16

Brb, need to convince my Warhammer playing DH that gold panning is the future.

Whippetlovely · 29/08/2023 19:19

Yes and I don’t get this whole if I say such and such it will out me. It absolutely won’t! It’s ridiculous. We are all strangers on the internet I don’t sit here trying to figure out if I know the people writing on here as I’m damn sure no one I know is sad enough to use mumsnet (just me!) I have a mate who uses Quora which is much cooler so she obviously isn’t embarrassed to admit that.

GrandColombier · 29/08/2023 19:20

Yea, it would correct for my DH. But I can't get too annoyed, we met through cycling...
