.....it's either golf or cycling. And have if a partner who does one of these things will definitely not "out" you. Promise.

My husband is into obscure minature wargaming… Warhammer is way to mainstream for him. We have an attic full of tiny men and trees and mountains and magic animals and stuff.

DH likes trail running and occasionally competes in ultramarathons. Do you know who I am?

No but if I searched your posts and found your occupation , dc ages, talking about the sort of music you like or similar stuff it could be the final jigsaw piece.

someone at the gym recognised me on here recently from similarly mundane posts.

@OfficerChurlish "Mine sculpts life-size replicas of the Lewis chess pieces out of cave-aged Comté. It sounds harmless, but it's surprisingly expensive, especially post-Brexit."

When you say "life sized" do you mean the same size as the chess men or actual people sized?

Mine doesn't do either of those things op, but he does have hobbies that involve a lot of equipment, money and time!

cameldigits · 30/08/2023 10:11

Mine has a various hobbies

Not sports

It would be too outing to reveal this

Good point. Although I suspect that if they are human sized he has already outed himself to anyone in a 3 mile radius. Incidentally, I hope he went for true verisimitude by using Stinking Bishop appropriately.

Who are all these people with time for bloody hobbies? I work FT, am a single parent to 2 young kids, and have a dog to walk etc. Fuck all time for metal detecting !

ErrolTheDragon · 30/08/2023 10:24

Do the cheese chessmen get used in one glorious game and eaten as each piece is taken? Is one side distinguished from the other by a blob of chutney?

They're a subset of men with a female partner.

Well my DH is retired. He stopped doing his main hobby when we had children and picked up a similar but more able to be done locally one after he retired. It's fab, it gives him his socialisation and competitive time.

Whatsthepoint1234 · 29/08/2023 18:10

I think my dh is a cyborg… he actively detests the Lycra brigade and thinks golf isn’t a ‘real sport’ - he likes spending ridiculous amounts of money on trains and obscure fantasy board and card games instead. I wish he liked golf…

I'm into toy soldiers @Whatsthepoint1234 . Whenever DW talks about the cost, I show her the price of model trains. Never fails.

mine thought the same - so stopped working....

PuppyMonkey · 30/08/2023 11:57

When I see people on here referring to hobbies, I like to convince myself it’s about going to Star Trek conventions and then it makes the thread loads more interesting.

crackofdoom · 30/08/2023 12:02

I recently met the county's leading hobby arachnologist at a wildlife event. He spends all his time out and about looking for rare spiders, some of which he takes home to join his spider menagerie. And yes, yes they do refer to him as Spider Man 😆.

Now, that's niche.

itsalwayscycling · 30/08/2023 12:04

Golf and cycling are probably similar in that they suck up huge amounts of weekend time ime (cycling in this household hence this user name!)

Not a problem now as kids are older and pretty much independent but sometimes frustrating in the toddler/preschool years!

CurlewKate · 30/08/2023 12:08

@crackofdoom " recently met the county's leading hobby arachnologist at a wildlife event. He spends all his time out and about looking for rare spiders,"

I misread that as archaeologist and thought "Bloody typical- he's not even DOING the actual bloody hobby he's skipping the housework for.....!"

Mines retired and does his birdwatching every day. He also cycles as a means ofgetting places, runs to keep fit and brews beer to undo the fitness 😁

Wrong, my DP loves DIY.

We are retired so I do think to myself Thank goodness he has these hobbies. When we were working, DH didn't have much time for them and didn't really do them much when DS was young

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 30/08/2023 13:00

The closest dh gets to being sporty or any exercise is fantasy NFL 😂Unfortunately redzone is approaching so that’ll be on every bloody Sunday.

He’s just spent over £200 on a train that ds7 calls ‘horny’ 😳😳.

Well, you could start with all those people not in your subsets.

All the people who don't need to spend a couple of hours a day walking dogs.
All the people who no longer have small dc (or who never had small dc).
All the people who don't work FT - may be PT, may be retired, might not have to work because of their financial circumstance, might be a SAHP with dc who are at school.
All the people who find it is relaxing to switch off into their hobby
All the people who are actually energised by their hobby.

crackofdoom · 30/08/2023 13:49

"Horny" train sets 😆😆😆😆😆

In the same space women use for storing useful info like birthdates, anniversary dates, DC school holiday dates, dentists appointments, Christmas is coming better start planning plans and the like. Men don't store that info, so the space is free.

Ain't that the truth.
