I've looked in sport, and as it's the start of the season I'd love to congratulate/commiserate/complain about the quality of the coffee?

Anyone else with a rugby kid?

Ds just trained today. Dd had joint training with another club- most of them are quite light on numbers at U12 so nice to get together with another localish club and have a few more. Plus they then know each other when they do the Pitch up and Play events.

Our club held an U11 festival on Sunday so we were there at 8.15 to help steward parking, corrr blimey it was cold!

A brilliant morning though, the boys won 4 out of 5 games, although we did have to forfeit the sixth game due to not enough players, we had started with 10 and ended up with 3 injuries unfortunately.

I think there were 160+ children and we only came across one team who was unnecessarily aggressive but thankfully our head coach was ref so pulled them up on it immediately and got it sorted.

Does anyone have any dry robe knock offs they can recommend? They look so warm but the price tag is massively putting me off!

Mine have “pri robes” from Primark. They are about 45 I think and do the job. I was just not prepared to spend dry robe money on something that has a 50% chance of being lost by Easter

DD has the mountain warehouse one which is very good.

How was everyone's rugby weekend. DS just had training. DD had a mini tournament. She played well but unfortunately hurt her shoulder so missed the last match. Pretty sure its just sprained so hoping we'll avoid a trip to A&E.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/11/2023 18:40

Hope your DD recovers quickly @Sparehair

We had a game vs a very local rival.... so DD was playing against a boy in her class. Teams were quite evenly matched so a great game.... or two/four as both teams had 21 players they decided to split in half and play twice. A long morning!

mamaduckbone · 19/11/2023 18:51

Both of mine have had quite brutal matches this weekend, unfortunately.

Ds1's match yesterday got called off before the end because of fighting (instigated by a couple of nasty players on the opposing team). He played the whole match on a sprained ankle sustained in the first 10 mins and is suffering for it today. It was his own team who did it though - he got dropped in a line out!

Ds2 played a notoriously vicious team today - 2 red cards for them. His team lost by a smallish margin which is positive since they would have gone 50 points down to them last season. They are on a seriously steep upward curve at the moment with lots of new, committed players.

Ds2 has final selection trials for the local prem academy this week. I'm not sure how I feel about it!

Feralgremlin · 19/11/2023 19:27

We had no games this weekend, only training. Although we got a message late last night to say it might have to be called off due to water logged pitches which made me question why on Earth we have it as a winter sport in the UK if too much water can derail training and cancel matches 😂 thankfully it went ahead in the end though so all is well.

Sending love to those of you with injured DCs and hope they all recover swiftly!

whoami24601 · 19/11/2023 20:12

DD just had training today. I had a match which was a 2 hour drive away so missed it but she said it was cold and wet! We did get our first win of the season so far so not all bad! Currently soothing my aching muscles in the bath and looking forward to a takeaway 😋

Mummyme87 · 19/11/2023 20:13

My eldest had a minis tournament this morning, I spent most of it in the car once DH turned up though as I’m rough as hell this weekend 🤢🤢

WarningOfGails · 19/11/2023 20:33

Our game also cancelled due to waterlogged pitches which was a shame. Had training on the school astro instead.

autumnleavesandrugby · 20/11/2023 10:45

Bad loss for our team but they played better (on a shocking pitch) than the score line suggested and had a seriously weakened team with their best players either playing up or being rested against cup semi final next week.
good luck to your son @mamaduckbone

pumpkintart · 24/11/2023 19:25

One for those with older rugby playing boys where do you get school trousers that fit! DS15 has a 32 waist max but his backside and thighs just do not fit, he is in serious danger of ripping them soon. To be awkward the school has to have charcoal not grey or black

BaconEggAndCoffee · 24/11/2023 19:51

We buy Sturdy Fit. They sell them on Amazon and ebay. They have adjustable waist but ample material around the thighs and bumper!

We have this exact problem and DS is only 10! We have found Matalan plus size ones are great, much roomier in the leg but same waist size, although we have had to have a couple of pairs taken in in different places by a seamstress.

pumpkintart · 24/11/2023 19:59

Thank you will try those he is a 34 inside leg so hopefully they are long enough as well

Houseplanter · 24/11/2023 20:38

'Muscle fit' mens trousers are good

pumpkintart · 24/11/2023 20:46

Thanks I don't think they do smart trousers only joggers

TheFlyHalfsMum · 24/11/2023 22:24

Hi @pumpkintart we just buy men’s trousers from Next and the like! No other way, he has ginormous thighs. He is at least 17 now, so it feels more normal buying men’s clothes…

nice to see so many mum’s of DDs playing! I played until secondary school, but then there weren’t any playing opportunities after that for girls where I was. Only one of my kids is into rugby, but it’s his whole life! Plays first XV at school (lining up to be captain next year), plays Colts for our local club, and now in the u17 academy at our nearest premiership club. There are a lot of matches to watch!

TheFlyHalfsMum · 24/11/2023 22:27

Oh and it has to be “relaxed fit” 😬😁

Feralgremlin · 26/11/2023 08:06

It’s a cold one today! Hoping everyone’s matches go well and that all who are spectating manage to avoid frostbite 😂

dementedpixie · 26/11/2023 08:11

@Feralgremlin my ds played yesterday when it was very frosty. They were 17-0 down after 12 minutes but ended up winning 25-24 in the end!
