I've looked in sport, and as it's the start of the season I'd love to congratulate/commiserate/complain about the quality of the coffee?

Anyone else with a rugby kid?

Both my boys are at the same pitch today which makes it easier for us! Just started to rain which is always fun 😖

This feels like such a win! One of mine is in colts and plays on Saturday now so it's now two home matches that we hope and pray for!
Ds2 has already gone with Dh for pre match training. I'll head along at 11 for the start of the match, so a slow start for me today.

mamaduckbone · 12/11/2023 10:01

Must make sure I'm there before 11 for the 2 minutes silence on the pitch. It always makes me a wee bit emotional.

PuttingDownRoots · 12/11/2023 10:04

I cant wait until next year when DD moves into DHs section! DHs game, DDs game and my Cubs are all in different cities today, hence why DD can't get there

My ds is in the under 18s in a club in Scotland. This weekend they had an epic trip to Orkney to play a match. It involved a 6 hour coach trip on Friday, overnight hotel stay, 1 hour ferry with another 1 hour at the other side and then retracing the journey (minus the hotel) and getting home about 1.30am today. Dh helps with coaching so he went too.

He has been playing since primary school which means about 11 years of playing now!

mamaduckbone · 12/11/2023 15:29

Good grief @dementedpixie I'll never complain about an hour's drive again!

prettybird · 12/11/2023 16:11

@dementedpixie - mentioned that to dh and he confirmed the club that I seemed to recall you were involved with Wink

He did ask the important question: "Did they win?"

They did, thank goodness!!!!

@prettybird is it you that plays rugby or is that another poster?

Our 14's were playing away today & the team they were playing were really rough. Loads of head/face grabbing, which went "unnoticed" by their ref.

The whole unsportsmanlike shambles was difficult to watch and culminated in one of their little louts head butting one of our players as hard as he possibly could, knocking him flat out.
Again, apparently the ref didn't notice.

I'm used to the rough and tumble of watching the game. But this was really vindictive violence. Would you complain to the team in question? I'm really disgusted by them.

You can complain to the HQ of the club about the team. We have done previously for a similar club. Your coach ideally should do this but parents can as well.

Thank you Pumpkin l.

RubyRoseVioletLillyJasmine · 12/11/2023 16:45

@pumpkintart what kind of response did you get when you complained?

They said they would investigate it. I didn't follow up anymore from that. You can also complain direct to the RFU

I’m in Texas. Clubs desperately growing the game. We struggle. There are a couple of big clubs here and we used to be, but we’re decimated by Covid times. My middle child has been playing since 2017, he’s now U14. Lacks confidence and not passionate but sticks with it. My U8 loves it, she’s been playing 3yrs. Took her to training Wednesday night and she ended up fetching balls for the boys playing soccer on the next field then playing in the dirt with another rugby buddy. 😆

I’m the Secretary, Board Member and just did the L1 coach training. Keep wondering how this is my life now 🤔.

it’s a struggle to compete with other sports here, and we’re not recognised in the official school sports leagues so it’s difficult to get in to schools to recruit and we can’t use their facilities

Shocking! We’ve complained before and got nowhere, but I’d still complain!

we had a player without the ball picked up by his neck and thrown to the ground. Ref didn’t “see”. A mum yelled out to him to draw attention then was told off by the regions president to stop harassing the ref 😦. We had 5 kids go offsite for medical treatment/concussion checks from the one game.

My experience is that concussion is taken much more seriously in rugby than it is at school/football/other sports and whilst injury is always a risk the benefits of a supportive team/people that look out for you/fitness/team/mental wellbeing far outweigh the disadvantages.

I'd agree with this.
I have 2 footballers and one rugby player. Hope you don't mind me joining you.
Though they are adults now, I still love to go and watch them.
The one that plays rugby didn't discover the game until she was 17, but lives and breathes rugby now she is mid-20s. Just such a shame there are so few quality women's teams, so the travel is so time consuming.

autumnleavesandrugby · 12/11/2023 17:11

Ours won their cup quarter final comfortably, which was a big relief. Absolutely baltic though, I still haven't defrosted properly.
I think our U18s go up to Orkney too from the south west of Scotland, that must be a fun trip! Furthest ours have been so far is Inverness, and that was an overnight youth hostel stay too.

We just had the hours training today. Only 5 of them turned up 😔 absolutely freezing! Definitely digging out the winter hats and gloves for next week 🥶

chubbybear1 · 12/11/2023 18:32

My DD has been playing rugby for 2 years now and was lucky enough to be selected to go to France at the start of September to represent Scotland in the schools rugby World Cup! She loved it and it has really brought on her confidence. She's part of a great team and they are on a really good streak at the minute. Love the supportive, welcoming community.

WarningOfGails · 12/11/2023 20:01

We had training this morning followed by a remembrance ceremony. One of the U14s played the last post on his cornet.

everyone had match shirts on and lots of training mud!

Duckduckloose · 12/11/2023 20:17

Ours were absolutely brilliant this morning. But they came running over at half time to say the other team didn’t want to play any more as they were losing so badly.
Us parents all said-‘don’t be daft, I’m sure you’ll carry on’ but no-the game was called off because they were ‘too cold’!
Bizarre and a shame because some of the boys only got to play 15 minutes after an hour’s drive.
DS got 6 tries though so he was happy!

HappyasLarrynot · 12/11/2023 20:26

@RugbyMumMode contact your own and the opposition’s club safeguarding officer (you should be able to find their contact details on the club website) and also the referees society regarding the ref’s conduct. If you have a section chairperson contact them also regarding the opposition’s conduct. Write down what you factually remember for clarity as they should get in touch with you.

My daughter was in Pontlevoy playing in the NZ Condors team. Scotland were in their pool so they must have played each other!
