I've looked in sport, and as it's the start of the season I'd love to congratulate/commiserate/complain about the quality of the coffee?

Anyone else with a rugby kid?

OP posts:

Mine's just started! Are you still looking for friends op???

IncomingTraffic · 24/09/2023 18:28

the only coffee I get is stuff I bring myself, so only me to blame.

DS managed to break his finger (in the first week of the season), so our season is on hold. The finger is fine too. He’s just not allowed to play until everything is most definitely healed.

rugbymumm · 24/09/2023 18:36

Yep! Via his school but trains twice a week, usually one match a week too.

Hi! My daughter and I play for a local team. She's loving it so far but because she can't play with boys anymore they're struggling for numbers 😔

SconeCreamJam · 24/09/2023 18:40

I have 2 rugby boys. Buying the coffee is for emergency situations only

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 24/09/2023 18:41

DS just went for his first session today. We watched the game. I'm slightly disturbed by all the injuries. He loved it though!

Tempone · 24/09/2023 18:42

Oh me too!! Ds 14 and his team won their match today!

PuttingDownRoots · 24/09/2023 18:42

DD had her first game of the season... U11s so last year of mixed. Her team is currently combined with another club so everything all over the place.

Must remember my coat next game!

lostinabook · 24/09/2023 18:44

Yep! I have an U12 girl.

Started 3 years ago, I helped a bit with social media and now Comms Manager for the whole despite not knowing the rules of Rugby!

She is a burgeoning prop like DH not they do positions really. I did my shift in the club kitchen this morning and am amazed I didn't eat all the bacon

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 24/09/2023 18:48

Yep! U11 girls but plays in a mix team too. I love the community feel at the club, so very friendly, even though I’m not too clued up on the rules.

PuttingDownRoots · 24/09/2023 18:49

@lostinabook does your club manage a proper U12 girls side? I'm very impressed. We have 1 girl in that age group currently.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 24/09/2023 18:53

Yep. Dd in u18, been playing since she was 6/7 with a couple of years break when she started secondary school. Has just helped get a girls team set up at her 6th form. Absolutely loves it. Luckily I don’t drink coffee but our clubs pretty good I think

lostinabook · 24/09/2023 19:08

Yep so proud down mostly to Dd's coach. My DD "played up" last season so it is her second season in the 1 year band and last season playing with the older girls raised her game so much. We are hoping to play another 3 or 4 Year 6s this season to strengthen the u12s numbers

Notsureofaname · 24/09/2023 19:13

First game of the season for my DD U14 and they won today. She’s really taken to rugby and this is her second season.

Also have U11 DS whose first match is next weekend. He’s been playing for about 5 years and rugby mad, mullet and everything 🤣

I really love the rugby community it’s great and very welcoming. DH is a ref so I do know most of the rules now!!

Tempone · 24/09/2023 19:35

Agreed, rugby community, definitely more welcoming the millions of other sports we're involved in.

Weve been told there's to be no mixing between Primary school age and Secondary age teams now... DD had been due to move to Girls only but it was cancelled.

mondaytosunday · 24/09/2023 19:45

Ah my son played from about 10 to 16, when too many kids dropped out due to study or work commitments. He loved it. Every Thursday evening and Sunday morning, rain or shine. I and a few others did the teas/coffees/bacon sandwiches (mostly for the Dads) and match lunches for 40 boys. Swear I spent every Sunday stinking of bacon! The manager and coaches were great - so dedicated.
He was so disappointed that he never got selected to try for the county - I asked them, he asked - I thought the coaches could have just let him try. But hard life lesson.
He still misses it.

Notsureofaname · 24/09/2023 19:51

Could he play for a seniors team now. How old is he, it’s not too late to start playing again.

Sorrytomoan · 24/09/2023 19:52

Yup got a very tall year 8 rugby mad boy at a rugby mad school. Trains 3 times a week and also does athletics and boxing!

Mischance · 24/09/2023 19:55

I am wholly against rugby - it is a barbaric game. I used to work for the NHS and for 10 years in a brain injury service.

Houseplanter · 24/09/2023 19:56

Hi.. my son plays professional rugby, if there's anything you'd like to know that I can help you with..

Obviously played at school, local leagues then in to National One, Championship, Premiership.

It's a great sport...

PinkSkiesAtNight · 24/09/2023 19:59

Ooh, I'm not in the UK, but my 7yr old has just started. It definitely seems more welcoming and friendly than the football team he did a couple of months at. We'll see!

DanceMumTaxi · 24/09/2023 20:01

Rugby ds here too (as well as footie and cricket). He’s u11’s and been playing since he was u6’s, but it was just tag then. It’s getting more like actual rugby now and they’re starting to think about actual positions. We’re in the NW, and his club is union not league. How about everyone else? Are there more union or league players here?

Notsureofaname · 24/09/2023 20:03

Union here in the midlands.

PuttingDownRoots · 24/09/2023 20:04

Union in Yorkshire.
