What dumb thing has taken you forever to realise?

Nights in white satin song was playing in the car today. A favourite song of mine so I was singing along and it dawned on me that the word is "nights," not "knights".

Whole song makes much more sense now 😳

I had a similar issue with "Toyota, the car in front" but it's a Nissan I'm behind (or other car brand).

And in the film Winnie the Pooh where the gopher says "I'm not in the book" and I thought it was the phone book😬 for decades!

I promise I'm intelligent.

How? I've been trying to figure it out for the last 21 hours and I'm still none the wiser!

The tyre is the deer's nose, the circle is the eye. I had to stand back a bit to see.

I'd be more concerned about what is going on in @happychops crazy brain to see this before the obvious car image!!

I only realised recently that thunder and lightning weren't two completely separate things. I didn't know that the thunder was the noise of the lightning. I haven't confessed that to anyone. Until now Blush

I thought thunder was the sound of the clouds colliding - I’m in my 50s 😆

Thank you for the explanation, but my brain is still not having it! It reminds me of those Magic Eye pictures from the 90s!

@JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain - I think if you move the "antlers" up a bit to a better position then it looks better - I've added a red nose and a body to give you a better idea how the car in the sign makes the deer's head.

Hey, call me Dr Frankenstein.

Thank you! I can sort of see it now. Before it made no sense at all.

HAHAHA, thank you for your efforts! It makes sense now and my frazzled brain can finally get some rest. 😂

About the song lyrics - 'my lover's got no money, he's got his trombolese'. I thought that for ages too, and imagined some sort of brass instrument and that the guy must just be really happy making music 😂😂 (sorry I don't know how to make this a direct reply to the person who wrote about this one)

morelippy · 29/08/2023 22:16

I heard the trombolese song today.. made me smile

Galatine · 28/08/2023 21:39

Yes! Sadly my parents used that one.

Same here. I was in my thirties when it suddenly clicked our childhood dog hadn't decided he wanted to go and live on a farm.

milkydress · 30/08/2023 00:58

Brilliant thread!!!

JamiesTurkeyTwizzler · 30/08/2023 11:31

I was awake at 4am with the bloody trombolese song in my head.
Na na na na na na na... 😴

And canals do have currents - they are just very slow.

Thank you! I feel vindicated now. I did point out that boats go both ways on rivers with currents. I'm not completely clueless Grin

@cariadlet (and anyone else confused about the Wombles song)
Didn't you watch the Wombles on TV? As that would have explained them living on Wimbledon common .
(Can understand anyone being confused if you were too young to have watched the programme although not sure why you would have been listening to the song, if so, as it's hardly mainstream radio play!)

Jifmicroliquid · 30/08/2023 21:32

I knew the Wombles were from Wimbledon Common, but for some reason I just didn’t put the two together and I also heard it as Wombles of Wimbledon, Common are we”

I only twigged about 3 years ago. It seems so obvious now, but I take things quite literally and the pause after Wimbledon was enough to throw me!

Yes I watched it and no I wasn't too young. I have no idea why I didn't suss this as I knew they were from Wimbledon Common, it just didn't twig. It's not held me back too much over the years to be fair. 😂

Greenly3 · 31/08/2023 05:25

I cannot Conor cope with these I am reading them at 5-15am and am just so glad I am loving on my own because I am just screaming with laughter!, I too thought it was knights in white satin!,😂😂😂😂😂😂I can’t cope !!
the contrast of this forum is remarkable, as I was actually i tears of despair at a previous post about an abusive father!!!

I'm exactly the same

Bristolnewcomer · 31/08/2023 07:48

I’m another Wombles one, and I don’t feel bad for not realising they were from Wimbledon Common. I’m sure children in Wimbledon don’t know the names of all the parks and commons round where I live either!

was gobsmacked when I found out that Wimbledon Common was a place and suddenly it made sense 😂

BabyStopCryin · 31/08/2023 07:58

I knew it was a place - but I prefer ‘Wombles of Wimbledon, coming are we’

Scaryghost · 31/08/2023 08:07

I went to a catholic primary school but am not catholic, so had never been to church. Day 1 in reception and the priest came into school. All the children went running up calling ‘father’ I thought he ‘he has a lot of children’ 🤦‍♀️ took me a little while to work out he wasn’t their dad.

Bellyblueboy · 31/08/2023 08:23

I used to think the only definition of accident was to wet yourself.

I remember in primary school being terrified to hear that a friends dad had an accident that resulted in a hospital stay. I remember thinking he must have really made a mess - and how embarrassing for him😂. I couldn’t understand why this girl was telling everyone

😅 I went to Catholic schools from aged 3 to 18, many moons ago. I now live in Scotland, and recently attended a service at our local C of S church. There were these wee clear plastic pots on the book ledges on the backs of the pews. I asked DH if they were for the communion wine. He just gave me a puzzled look back and shook his head. 😅

What were they for?

In some churches, e.g. baptist they do give out juice wine in wee individual shot glasses.

UnctuousUnicorns · 31/08/2023 08:54

I never worked that out! 🤷‍♀️
