Things you don't want in a holiday let ...

I'll start.

Decorative cushions on the beds! Absolutely no thank you. They're quite irritating on the sofas ... but on the beds! Just why?

Another one - quite specific to where I'm staying now - unwashed cooker hood filters. They make the whole kitchen smell of dirty ovens.

Also ... it's nice if all the mirrors and the glass shower screen are done properly.

I don't have pets, but if you are allergic why don't you use pet free places? There are more of these anyway!

SirChenjins · 23/08/2023 20:16

Hot tubs
Loads of smelly plug ins and reed diffusers
Cookers and hobs that take ages to heat up
Ring binders full of rules
Not enough dining chairs for the number of guests your property says it accommodates
Food from previous guests - not even teas and coffees

Diamondsareforeverandever · 23/08/2023 20:16

Bars of soap - liquid soap please
Dust
Poly cotton sheets - cotton please
Double beds - king size please

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/08/2023 20:17

Weird stick things in scented oil as air freshener. Grim and makes everyone sneeze constantly.
One chopping board of dubious age and knives that haven't been sharpened since the day they were purchased. If you don't want the hassle of maintaining it, replace it annually.

ImNotReallySpartacus · 23/08/2023 20:17

Fleas which the last visiting dog didn't bother to take home.

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 23/08/2023 20:17

Mould on bath mat

Mydoghealsmyheart · 23/08/2023 20:18

Dirty dishwasher filter - grim 🤮

some dog owners seem to think 'no dogs' doesn't apply to them.

Pineapplewaves · 23/08/2023 20:20

The owners who live next door thinking it's okay to park their additional cars on the property driveway because you only have one car - meaning it's a pita to get your car in and out everyday.

Owners who assume that a couple renting a two bedroom house don't want the second bedroom made up - DP snores and I want the second bedroom for myself. Did you give me a reduction for not using the second bedroom? No.....

A big list of tasks to be carried out on departure day - put those in the listing and I'll book somewhere else that doesn't expect me to clean for the next guests!

Wooden chopping boards. I don't want to cut bread on something that's been used for raw meat.

Wood is naturally antibacterial and can be scrubbed clean. Plastic or glass blunts knives.

I can't stand air fresheners - especially the ones set to gas you at regular intervals.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 23/08/2023 20:24

@Pineapplewaves - we once got a strange review from an Airbnb we stayed in because we used both bedrooms. The owners insinuated we'd had other people staying with us. I have migraine that often wakes me up so I take myself off so as not to disturb DP in the hope I can get some more sleep. We've also stayed in one place where the main bedroom was quite noisy so we moved to the second one. There is a reason we book two bedroom places.

MumUndone · 23/08/2023 20:26

The owner living right next door and coming over for a chat when you're trying to relax with your family Confused

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 23/08/2023 20:27

Hot tubs, Jacuzzi baths or saunas

GirlsWithGuitars · 23/08/2023 20:27

No fancy coffee pod machines. I’ve never yet found one that does a decent black coffee.

Whaaaaattt???? Seriously? I had no idea that there was cheeky fuckery to that degree!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 23/08/2023 20:30

A large rusty axe in a kitchen drawer covered in, what looked suspiciously like, bloodstains.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 23/08/2023 20:35

Yes to family photos. The last place we stayed at had them plastered over almost every wall. It was clear (from the school calendar in the kitchen among other things) the owners spend their whole summers there but, with all the photos and personal items everywhere, I actually felt I was intruding and felt a bit uncomfortable being there.

Longingforthesummer · 23/08/2023 20:36

💩A toilet brush...erkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!

Doyoureallyhavetoask · 23/08/2023 20:39

@GirlsWithGuitars yes! Those pod machines are so annoying. Slow, don't make enough coffee, the strength is wrong. Just provide a cafétiere please!

I also don't want: moths in the oven, dead spiders in the cupboard, and random instruction manuals for appliances that aren't there.

Ornaments
Polycotton bed linen
Useless cushions on the bed
Bath towels that barely go round an adult

Mumteedum · 23/08/2023 20:40

Reed diffusers. Spent all last week moving the fecking thing because it gave me a headache. Put it on the balcony in the end (but had to move it if I went out there).

Cyclingmug · 23/08/2023 20:41

Surely a loo brush is essential otherwise......

WtfHormones · 23/08/2023 20:42

Doing everything they asked for interms of cleaning up and then being left a review saying that we were lovely but left a mess.

Bluevelvetsofa · 23/08/2023 20:44

Nothing less than a king size bed.
Don’t want vases of plastic flowers or plastic fruit on a coffee table.
A key case that you need a degree to operate.
