Lucy Letby - new thread

No idea why the last one was taken down, but for anyone who wants to continue the discussion on Letby, I’m starting a new thread here.

I’m 100% sure she’s guilty, but I’m still massively struggling to comprehend why on earth she did it.

It's like she has a reverse messiah or saviour complex

Not playing the hero saving people more the opposite

bellac11 · 21/08/2023 22:46

Prior to her first arrest, did people know that she had taken home handover sheets and nursing notes?

Werent they stored somewhere, didnt people notice they were missing?

Also how/when was it established she was searching for the parents on facebook? Before or after her arrest?

Handover notes are binned and shredded in the hospital as they're confidential. No no one knew she was taking them. Somethimes of course a HCP might accidentally take one home but she had over 250. She even took them with her when she moved back to her parents after the first arrest. She had a shredder at home and even shredded her bank statements.

The searches happened while parents were on the ward, when they left and Something for years later. She searched on anniversaries and Christmas. Again against company policy. She did search other people too, however we don't actually know how many victims there truly were.

Rebecca Leighton was originally arrested and charged.

Thats it, that makes sense.

DivingForLove · 21/08/2023 22:56

@Nodeepdiving i tend to use different sources - BBC, Independent etc rather than rely on one.

Yes I think I asked this on another thread somewhere.

I still dont understand what the managmenet thought was causing the excess deaths, did they not worry that a nurse/some nurses were doing a bad job?

On the news today I heard her described by a former colleague as competent, confident and “fairly conscientious” so that would suggest that negligence by her wasn’t at the forefront of their minds and in fact her competence was a factor that kept her from being under suspicion for such a long time.

No statistical evidence.

There were 22 incidents of babies collapsing on the ward with no real explanation. Many were stable babies reaching important milestones, some were nearly due to come home. 7 died. Some who survived had life changing injuries.

Letby was the only person on duty for every single one. By a significant margin. She was on duty for every other death on the ward too. 13 in 12 months. The previous year there was 3.

A review of all of the medical evidence showed several of the babies had unexplained air embolism. A couple had serious internal injuries, some showed signs of overfeeding, two had synthetic insulin in their bloodstream. On the stand Letby admitted the insulin couldn't have happened accidentally and someone must have poisoned the babies. She hung the tpn bags.

When she was moved from nights to days, the collapses which had only occurred between midnight and 4am, suddenly started only happening during the day. When she was completely removed they stopped. Since then there's been one death on the ward in 7 years. Being caught standing over a desaturating baby doing nothing.

Lots of inappropriate behaviour, taking home and keeping hundreds of handover sheets, searching for parents on Facebook including on Christmas day, unsettling comments to bereaved parents, writing a deranged note saying "I killed them on purpose because I'm not good enough to care for them, I am evil I did this".

This needs pinning to the top of every thread on this killer. Just so people can stop asking if there was enough evidence, or it if it was just ‘statistical’

IfICantHaveYou · 21/08/2023 22:57

6 months segregation? Doubt it, there's rules and targets around that

And 'suicide watch' differs vastly to what people actually think it is. She's already spent years in prison on remand, she knows the system by now

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 21/08/2023 22:58

I do agree that she just totally did not look like a killer, particularly a serial killer, particularly a serial killer of innocent babies.

What does a serial killer of innocent babies look like? I do not know, but I just feel they don't look like her. She looks just so like ... butter wouldn't melt in her mouth...... (Well she did before she was arrested!) It's just so weird. You would never know that she was a vicious maniacal murderer of babies.

The more I look at her, and the more I think about this, the more I cannot get my head around it. It's devastating and so upsetting. I think she's incredibly vile and arrogant - how she absolutely will not admit that she's done anything wrong .... And refusing to go to the sentencing, in my opinion, just proved that it was her, but she was just so arrogant that she still won't admit it's her.

Of course it's her! Far, far too much evidence. She was there at every single one of the incidents and the deaths. And she admitted it in her diary. Absolutely horrific monster she is. Poor babies had suffered so much pain when they died (as the judge said.) And those poor, poor families. I could cry just thinking about it literally cry... 😢 Why did she do it? Why?!

I was only half way through the last thread and it got closed

I was going to say (and have said it on another thread), I dont know why people keep going on about secure hospitals. She isnt unwell, she doesnt have any sectionable needs

Even if she has depression or psychopathy or PTSD, shes not showing at the moment any unwell behaviour that would require sectioning.

She also cant be 'treated' as such for whatever caused her to do the murders because she wont admit to them. At the moment. Perhaps that will come

Im not convinced that she'll kill herself, women dont tend to, it tends to be the men that do this. Im not convinced that she'll be attacked significantly, these sorts of prisons are full of women who have killed/committed serious attacks. Some of them will also be child killers.

Agree re not being attacked.

Just before the previous thread was closed I commented that she is one of four women to be given a whole life order. Only one, Joanna Dennehy, is not a child killer. The other two are Myra Hindley and Rose West. The former died of natural causes, the latter is still alive and well in prison.

GiddyUpH · 21/08/2023 23:00

An absolute mind fuck I've read a lot of anecdotal threads and there's not been one 'my friend's sister's hairdresser went to school with her and said she was cruel' type outpouring.

Psychopaths have no empathy (in general) and view people as objects/tools.

She fits the bill for that.

She may have a number of other issues going on

I agree with anothr poster, if it was all about the drama/being a saviour/being a hero/validation she could have made them ill and brought them back to life but she did things to ensure she killed them, she worked really hard to enusre their deaths, not their lives. So there has to be a desire to kill within it

Well thats not a decent paper

I’d hardly say it’s less decent than The Telegraph or The Times (but then I’m not a fan of the right wing press. If you are and don’t want to pay, there’s always the Mail Online!)

That's a bit catty - I had actually asked if someone could list the key incriminating evidence, not whether there was enough. I also never suggested it was " just statistical", I asked if statistical evidence played any part. Read up on Lucia de Berk. She's a Dutch nurse who was wrongly convicted of murdering patients.

IfICantHaveYou · 21/08/2023 23:05

@GiddyUpH she mentioned that her hair is different now and she is very very gaunt

That's prison life though....not much sunlight, poor food, limited exercise, worry and fear. Stress. Doesn't take long to become that way

Im amazed that the police were able to get enough documents in the hospital showing shifts and other medical notes as normally as you say they are disposed of

How did people know she had searched though, did this come out later or did she talk about looking up the families?

Not sure what you mean by it being against company policy, do you mean nurses are told they shouldnt look people up on facebook?

RoobarbandCustud · 21/08/2023 23:06

"Those babies just weren't that big a deal to her. For example, infanticide is a seperate crime in most countries sentencing wise because often people don't view babies, especially tiny ones that are premature, as 'full blown people' quite yet."
^
No you are utterly wrong. The killing of a child under 1 by its own mother is infanticide, and this is a particular recognition of the huge emotional upheaval of birth and its aftermath NOT because small premature babies are a different category of human who "most people" think are not full blown people.^

Also worth thinking about the role racism played in this whole awful business.

Please explain what you mean? I'm really hoping you're not race baiting here

Please don't wheel out Richard Gill. The man is a lunatic who has been loud confident and wrong about this case for months. He thinks Beverly Allit is innocent. I don't know if he's going through something but he's destroyed his credibility in spectacular fashion, to the point he was actually harassing Letby's defence KC.

Please ask MNHQ to remove the pictures of her, no one needs to see any more pictures of her, it’s only glorifying her. Fine discuss how you feel but it’s sick to keep posting pictures of her.
