Lucy Letby - new thread

No idea why the last one was taken down, but for anyone who wants to continue the discussion on Letby, I’m starting a new thread here.

I’m 100% sure she’s guilty, but I’m still massively struggling to comprehend why on earth she did it.

The only solution to stop similar going forward is CCTV is wards and unit. I know it's not a nice idea because people are extremely vulnerable and to have CCTV on wards and hospital units seems wrong but what else can stop people doing the same in future?

I hate to mention it, Pinkyandtherose, but CCTV footage - just like medical notes - can be "lost" if it suits

As already mentioned it happened with my own family, and I very much doubt I'm alone in this

You and your cohort keep posting that rexv link like it’s a talisman, but they’re just a conspiracy theorist.

The BBC have reported below:

Since Letby left the hospital's neonatal unit, there has been only one death in seven years.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66120934

It's a level 2 nicu unit, the sickest patients go to bigger units. I don't understand how the matron wasn't suspicious when babies started dying at a level 2 nicu..

@Hawkins009

By your logic of "Someone with no medical background at all summarising a complex medical argument"
Then why have the jury if they are not qualified to understand the complex information ?

The jury spent ten months being presented with complex information and were able throughout the process to present questions to the judge for him to facilitate clarifications etc from witnesses. They are at no point required to summarise findings to others. They are required to respond, with a verdict, to the evidence presented to them by witnesses. With the opportunity to ask for clarification of medical terms and findings to allow them to understand them. The tens of thousands of pages worth of evidence. It is a hugely valuable exercise that is crucial to our legal system.

What has that got to do with a poster on a forum claiming they can summarise a complex medical argument, from a third party, when they don't themselves have the background to understand and present that argument?

To then fully offer a fully qualified perspective and to know the science, the methods etc would the jury have been better made up of people qualified to consider all the evidence without having to rely on interpretations from others to offer a more scientific analysis, ?

BIossomtoes · 23/08/2023 21:01

So now we’re questioning the centuries old jury system by which those accused of a crime have the right to be tried by a jury of their peers? This is becoming truly ludicrous.

The call to abolish the jury based system is not new, but this is a conversation that needs to be had outside of this case.

The prosecution said they were unexplained, that was the starting point for looking into foul play.

I can’t summarize the science behind the insulin accusation in a few sentences, if you are interested you will have to read about it. This chapter covers the problem with the insulin evidence and explains the issues:

Actually Child A’s death was referred to as ‘unascertained’ by the coroner.

And some of the other pathology reports had quite detailed findings, but the coroner wouldn’t have had the info to look out for things like globules of air in the baby’s blood or insulin poisoning.

If you can’t even answer a basic question like which test should have been carried out then I don’t think you are in any position to summarise the science for us. I’ll believe the Royal Liverpool Hospital over you.

Orangebadger · 23/08/2023 21:14

What about all the evidence found in her house? The handover notes, some blood gas results, the initials of babies who had died in her diary, the scribbled notes on scraps of paper stating " I am evil, I did this" before her home was searched she knew the police were investigating these deaths, she had been moved out of the unit, she knew they would come knocking on her door at some point. The inspector leading the investigation muses in an interview on the podcast that she wanted to be caught. Otherwise why keep this stuff where you know it will be found. The evidence is not all medical/ clinical. This stuff was like a nail in the coffin for her.

True but I'd debate the relevance of it being apart of it, considering as other posters have pointed out the complex eg medical information, then methods etc

Why do people keep posting that ludicrous science on trial website, it’s been debunked so many times, I mean there is drinking rhe cool aid and then there is this.

"Lucy Letby exemplifies how ideology of Whiteness keeps Britain in a chokehold. They believed her tears/denials even though evidence said otherwise for no other reason than she's White.
A Black or Brown nurse would've been reported to the police immediately & sacked for suspicion."

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12436687/Dr-Shola-Lucy-Letby-got-away-murder-white-woman.html

Dr Shola says Lucy Letby got away with murder because she is white

Activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu claimed the nurse's race meant complaints against her were not taken seriously.

Indeed ,I don't doubt our judicial system.has its faults but the whole point of a jury is that the defendant is tried by their peers ,its worked for centuries so why question it now .

It's ridiculous. Even Gill the creator of one of those has said he's not saying she's innocent, he thinks she didn't get a fair trial. Presumably because there was no medical evidence in her defence.

It is strange that she didn't get rid of anything connected, even change her computer or phone (if that would have made a difference. I'm not good with tech).

Because they can pretend they are contributing something meaningful instead of admitting they can’t explain it in their own words.

People have been questioning it for years, this is not a new debate. The evidence nowadays is much more complicated, whilst people think everything is an episode of CIS.

I'm not sure there is the public will to want to change it though.

Yes, it speaks to she thought she was untouchable. The god complex that some psychiatrists are referring to.

Where has the details and referenced scientific analysis been debunked? Absolutely nowhere, one one has addressed it.

How can we debunk something YOU don’t even understand because it’s so nonsensical?

Why can’t you answer what insulin test should have been performed on Child F?

monsteramunch · 23/08/2023 21:49

@DahliaRedHead

You keep asking people to respond to an argument you have been unable to make in your own words.

You've copy and pasted someone else's words (from the website you keep mentioning) and repeatedly requested that people respond to the arguments made on that website.

You're asking people to respond to an argument you don't understand in enough depth yourself to explain in your own words.

Perhaps try doing that first, otherwise yours is a a pretty entitled approach to this discussion.

monsteramunch · 23/08/2023 21:50

Why can’t you answer what insulin test should have been performed on Child F?

This.

@DahliaRedHead

Rather than copying and pasting or referring to a website in general, can you explain which test should have been used and why?

And why did the defence accept the validity of the test? Or fail to produce an export witness testifying that it was invalid?
