What time is brunch? No sign of it???

Was invited round for brunch but no sign of anything being served and I'm starving. Didn't have breakfast.

What time is brunch to you?

11? I’d be quite disturbed by not being greeted with the smell of coffee and bacon if I’d been invited to brunch 😭

MamaMiaOhDear · 20/08/2023 11:41

12ish

Badbudgeter · 20/08/2023 11:41

Late morning 11-11:30. Just ask if they need a hand with the food and follow that up with when are they planning to serve.

Mindymomo · 20/08/2023 11:43

I would say 11.30 am, but maybe later if you normally have Sunday lunch at 4 pm. Can you ask if host would like any help in kitchen and try and get some food.

12ish

15 minutes to go or I'm going to start eating a cushion

Brunch is between breakfast and lunch so I’d expect to be eating by 11:30

SomewhereWithSomeone · 20/08/2023 11:46

Can’t you ask?

Dancesaideveryone · 20/08/2023 12:07

They've gone to the kitchen and started putting something together. Asked if I was hungry? I politely said yes (while internally screaming YES).

Its a combination of breakfast and lunch so I'd definitely expect it before 12pm

IrritableVowel · 20/08/2023 12:12

What time were you told to arrive at? I wouldn't expect food as soon as I got there.

ComtesseDeSpair · 20/08/2023 12:12

Brunch for me and most of the people I know is just a weekend leisurely meal eaten at some point in the day before it gets dark! But, if it’s happening at somebody’s house then nobody I know would be shy about saying “man, I’m starving, when are we eating??”

Talipesmum · 20/08/2023 12:20

It’s late morning. At a push lunchtime but def not even a late lunch.

elp30 · 20/08/2023 12:21

I would have said between 10am to 11am. Anything after 12pm is lunch with no (Br) in front of it.

It gets dark here at 9pm. I'd be eating my own hand by then

Me too. I’d be most distressed to be passing 11am with no sign of food.

That’s not brunch. Brunch is literally a hybrid of breakfast and lunch - so to be served before lunchtime.

theysaiditgetseasier · 20/08/2023 12:24

11am or 11.30 latest, any later it's lunch

UnfunnyJester · 20/08/2023 12:27

Your hosts are odd. Who invites someone for a meal then does nothing about it for ages, and after a while asks if guests are hungry?

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/08/2023 12:29

Do you often chat on your phone when you're a guest in someone's house?

Allmarbleslost · 20/08/2023 12:41

11 at the latest!

Surely not for most people.

It’s substantial breakfast food usually served between breakfast and lunch. Any later than 12:30 and it’s squarely lunch. Later than 3pm and it’s tea/dinner.

If I was invited for brunch I’d note that I hadn’t been invited for lunch and would expect to be eating before 12.

CeriB82 · 20/08/2023 12:50

Id have left. Seriously.

Lindy2 · 20/08/2023 12:59

Brunch is around 11am.

We just had a late brunch at 11.45am (to fit in the football half time). Any later than that is lunch.

Brunch is usually breakfast stuff that takes too long to cook or is a bit of a faff early in the morning.

Sherrystrull · 20/08/2023 13:00

Never go round for a meal at someone's house hungry. I've learnt to my cost in the past! Always have a snack first. I do the same when going out for a meal.
