Was invited round for brunch but no sign of anything being served and I'm starving. Didn't have breakfast.

What time is brunch to you?

So we had sourdough and humous. Nothing else but it was something.

Regardless of the time that was a rubbish brunch!

Wishimaywishimight · 20/08/2023 13:31

I go out for brunch from time to time - it's often served up to 3pm!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/08/2023 13:31

My FIL says brunch when he means 'breakfast for lunch'. It's been as late as one thirty in the past. We've tried to tell him... 🙄

I would say 11.30 am, but maybe later if you normally have Sunday lunch at 4 pm. Can you ask if host would like any help in kitchen and try and get some food.

Lunch at 4pm?! That's not lunch, that's an early dinner. Dunch. Linner.

Galiana · 20/08/2023 13:36

Sunday brunch is 12-1 surely?

Sunday breakfast is about 10, Sunday lunch 3ish.

Brunch sits happily in the middle.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/08/2023 13:37

No sign of any bacon????

11 at the latest is brunch!

That ain't brunch!

That's just poor hosting.

starfishmummy · 20/08/2023 13:39

On our house, brunch is more a breakfast for lunch thing - so somewhere between 12 and 1 or sometimes later. However if we were asking guests round we would aim for 11/11.30 but would have definitely discussed the timings with them beforehand.

BuffaloCauliflower · 20/08/2023 13:41

That’s not brunch, whatever time it’s served

TropicalTrama · 20/08/2023 13:42

That’s so strange! I know Brunch can often mean breakfast foods served at any time these days so pancakes at 3pm = brunch but sourdough and hummus is more like a nibble you’d do with an aperitif. Definitely not brunch, definitely not a meal of any sort. Hope you’re off in search of proper food now!!

RagzRebooted · 20/08/2023 13:43

Bread and hummus? For brunch?
Is your host a Mumsnet Competetive Under-eater?

Did you bring anything to contribute to the brunch?

That's it? Not brunch... that's a snack, or "wfh alone, cba to cook".

Or better still. Don’t ever go back.

What a cheek they had.

We’d serve it up as part of a breakfast or brunch.

sanityisamyth · 20/08/2023 13:52

11 ish. Wetherspoons stop serving their breakfast menu at 12 so before that!

Silkiebunny · 20/08/2023 13:55

Around 11am, after breakfast and before lunch, lunch could be 12pm to 2pm so definitely before 12pm, breakfast would be 8am to 9am ish.

How is my dear SiL. There really can't be many people who view that as a meal

All good if that’s what you do in your house but don’t invite people round for Sunday lunch without warning them that you won’t be serving up until 3pm! Or the same if you invite them for ‘brunch’ to be eaten at 1-2pm.

frippu · 20/08/2023 14:01

11pm ish

Most places wouldn't serve after 12

frippu · 20/08/2023 14:02

Brunch for me and most of the people I know is just a weekend leisurely meal eaten at some point in the day before it gets dark!

that's not brunch
