Was invited round for brunch but no sign of anything being served and I'm starving. Didn't have breakfast.

What time is brunch to you?

Me too. I’d be most distressed to be passing 11am with no sign of food.

Also agree. If it’s after 12 it’s lunch.

Are people expect to not eat anything until then? Or are they supposed to have breakfast and then brunch? In which case, what’s the point? Just have breakfast and lunch.

I HATE the whole concept of brunch for this reason.

Sunday brunch is 12-1 surely?

Sunday breakfast is about 10, Sunday lunch 3ish.

Brunch sits happily in the middle.

So you’re supposed to eat every two hours? Wtf?

I'd say brunch up to 1pm, at a push. Anything after that is not brunch. I see loads of bars/restaurants advertising brunch events that are like 12-4?! That's not brunch! To me that's an excuse to serve a bit of fancy scrambled egg and toast and charge £25 for it.

You’re missing the point which is not the food. Those brunch events are usually ‘bottomless brunch’ so unlimited alcohol and just an excuse for a daytime piss up. A lot of the time the food isn’t even breakfasty and no one cares as it’s really not the point. Frequently you also get kitchy entertainment like drag queens, half naked men and/or 90s boyband bingo. They’re popular for hen dos.

You’re really selling it 😬

This reminds me of the time we were invited round to our new NDNs for tea. I told DD not to eat anything as I was expecting a big Jewish deli, bagel feast. We shared an apricot tart between 5 of us and had ... tea 🫖!! I was starving and it was a Sunday, had to forage when we got home

I am that Jewish mum and have had the opposite happen where I’ve laid out the bagel tea and we’ve had ‘oh I ate already’ and ‘I’m in a diet’ - oh well more for me then!!!

@Namddf No, I think traditionally it was so you didn't have to eat breakfast or lunch, it was like a leisurely option for the weekend.

I'm quite aware of that!

If I had brunch I wouldn't have breakfast or lunch, obviously.

I was just giving the times of Sunday meals.

Davros · 20/08/2023 19:21

Goatymum I wish we'd come to you. We always do an excessive spread, whatever the time of day

Autieangel · 20/08/2023 19:42

Bread and hummus 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I have breakfast at 6:30 and lunch by 11! 🥴😂 I would have eaten someone in your shoes

TheChosenTwo · 20/08/2023 20:40

We sometimes have a Sunday brunch, bagels and smoked salmon, bacon, fried mushrooms, hot fresh waffles and toppings, Avocado and sourdough and poached egg, a combination of things (we don’t have all of these things but make a couple and always have the waffle iron ready to go.
when we have brunch we don’t have breakfast or lunch, it’s usually served around 11:30 depending on how many people are helping!
What you had wasn’t brunch, it was an insult!

Local resturant to me serves brunch 11 am-2 pm.

Bread is not brunch. Did they forget they invited people for brunch?
