What time is brunch? No sign of it???

Was invited round for brunch but no sign of anything being served and I'm starving. Didn't have breakfast.

What time is brunch to you?

I need to know about the invite. Who untied you? How long ago were plans made? Are they normally good hosts? All so odd!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/08/2023 14:47

5.00-6.30am - food? Bleurgh. Give me coffee.

6.30-10am - breakfast. And more coffee.

10.30-11.30 - Brunch. Requires at least two sources of protein, coffee, carbs and some fruit/fruit juice.

11.30-12.30 - early lunch.

12.30-2.00 - lunch.

2.00-3.30pm - late lunch. Requires salad items/pasta, preferably fish/seafood.

4.30-5.30pm - tea.

6.00-8.30pm - dinner.

8.30-9.00pm - late dinner/going out dinner.

9.30pm onwards - where the hell is the food?

LadyDaisy42 · 20/08/2023 14:52

I'd say brunch up to 1pm, at a push. Anything after that is not brunch. I see loads of bars/restaurants advertising brunch events that are like 12-4?! That's not brunch! To me that's an excuse to serve a bit of fancy scrambled egg and toast and charge £25 for it.

HellonHeels · 20/08/2023 14:56

Dancesaideveryone · 20/08/2023 13:25

So we had sourdough and humous. Nothing else but it was something.

Lesson learnt, have something before Smile

WTF that's not brunch! Who are these people?!

xyz111 · 20/08/2023 14:56

Dancesaideveryone · 20/08/2023 12:07

They've gone to the kitchen and started putting something together. Asked if I was hungry? I politely said yes (while internally screaming YES).

Anything after 12 is lunch surely?! 🤣

Dancesaideveryone · 20/08/2023 15:21

On our way home and stopping off for pizza.

Weird experience with a new couple, few of us there and think it was heading towards a sale pitch.

This will teach me to be open to new invites

Davros · 20/08/2023 15:52

This reminds me of the time we were invited round to our new NDNs for tea. I told DD not to eat anything as I was expecting a big Jewish deli, bagel feast. We shared an apricot tart between 5 of us and had ... tea 🫖!! I was starving and it was a Sunday, had to forage when we got home

HellonHeels · 20/08/2023 16:08

Tea, alas, is massively open to interpretation 🤣

Bloody hell. Was it an MLM of some sort? Clear evidence that it's not profitable if all they can spring for is hummus 🤣

HerMammy · 20/08/2023 16:15

I remember a friend inviting us to dinner in her new home, told
to be there for 6.30 prompt,
food served at 10, no apology,
we were ready to leave for the chippy.

RaisedByHedgehogs · 20/08/2023 16:21

I hope you did eat a cushion. And maintained eye contact with your host throughout.

RuthW · 20/08/2023 16:45

Brunch is 10-11

Lunch is 12 or after

Lol that’s not brunch! That’s just lunch and not the sort of lunch I would invite people over for.

I’d be gutted if I were you OP as I would have been expecting bacon, eggs, smoked salmon, bagels, avocado, hollandaise…something along those lines!

Doggymummar · 20/08/2023 16:52

⬆️ WHAT SHE SAID

nameitagain · 20/08/2023 16:53

What weird people they are

OhComeOnFFS · 20/08/2023 16:55

A sales pitch! I'm glad you left before they did that. Someone needs to tell them that if they invite people for brunch and don't give it to them and then try to sell them something, their business will never succeed.

LolaSmiles · 20/08/2023 17:04

That's sounds very MLM-esque.

Brunch should be between 10-12. Much earlier is breakfast and much later is lunch. I'd expect it to be more of a substantial meal eg bacon, eggs, waffles with toppings, pancakes, bagels, salmon that sort of thing.

Chowtime · 20/08/2023 17:06

A sales pitch! Cheeky cunts!

Brunch should always include something sweet like pancakes or waffles. It's am American invention for people who have missed breakfast but still want the breakfast but with something sweet and puddingy as well.

Ohmylovejune · 20/08/2023 17:08

Food after 9.30pm is munchies!

Lindy2 · 20/08/2023 17:11

Sourdough and hummus!

I'm gutted for you OP. That's not brunch or lunch, that's a fairly boring snack. What a disappointment after you were anticipating a nice brunch.

I hope you bought yourself something decent to eat on the way home!

This!! Although I’d settle for afternoon tea as an option between 2-3:30!

willWillSmithsmith · 20/08/2023 17:28

I’d send a text saying thank you for the snack. (Well I wouldn’t but I’d like to). I’d then invite them to brunch and give them something proper as a hint to how it’s done.

Oh god I did that once and it ended up being some kind of recruitment to a religion. I thought no more saying yes to random invitations!
