Neighbour knocking about the shouting

Just had a knock on the door from the man next door to us, his heard lots of shouting and I was like yeah thats us and the kids a bit flabbergasted (after telling them 5 times to get into bed i shouted ,their dad also shouted)
He is fully aware we have children, he is also fully aware that there home in the holidays anyway them he starts going on how we should be teaching them love and peace and calmness ....... my husband then came down to apologise for the shouting and he then goes on to him don't shout we need to teach them peace and love. I could smell alcohol coming off him so his probably a bit drunk but seriously just who does that ? I can't explain how much of a weird neighbour anyway which made it all feel a bit weirder

Weirdo, ignore. Distance yourselves and if he does this again don't answer the door.

Nicknacky · 19/08/2023 20:17

Why is there so much shouting from both of you that the neighbours can hear you?

Doesn’t sound like a relaxing environment for bedtime.

AquamarineGlass · 19/08/2023 20:21

How horrible to disturb others in their own home by your shouting.

Why so you need to shout at your children at all?

I'm very glad I don't live near you.

Timetochangegonzo · 19/08/2023 20:21

If your kids are in bed by 8 I assume they’re 8 or younger. You AND your partner shouted so loudly at them that a neighbour complained. This is terrible parenting. What are you doing?

It’s not normal to shout at your children to get them to go to bed. It isn’t fair on them or the neighbours.

ChickpeaPie · 19/08/2023 20:23

Oh fgs. My kids are under 8 and I frequently need to shout at bedtime. Doesn’t mean it’s a toxic horrible bedtime. It just means I have to shout to get them in bed in pjs with clean teeth, but then we have lovely stories and cuddles and chats. Don’t be so quick to judge

I’ve had friend that had to listen to shouting through their walls. It’s really awful to experience.

TheYadaYada · 19/08/2023 20:24

Stop shouting at your kids and learn better parenting.

Have some consideration for your neighbours.

I love that your neighbour was knocking to advocate peace and love 🌞🌈🌸

Badbudgeter · 19/08/2023 20:34

I shout at bedtime too 😳Not the first time or the second but by the 4th time with another rubbish excuse. I shout. I’m not sure they take me seriously if I don’t shout. For example in the mornings, darlings pop your shoes on it’s time to go. darlings I said pop your shoes on, go and get them right now in a firm voice. Shouty voice shoes right now and amazingly they go get their shoes on.

I have shouted at my kids. I would imagine most posters have but how many have shouted so badly that a neighbour feels they have to come around?

JusthereforXmas · 19/08/2023 21:04

lol at perfect parents who never shout (never having anything except positive emotional reactions is really unhealthy).

The people I know like that are viciously passive aggressive and controlling (with a quiet voice and smile of course). Who raise kids full of anxiety on egg shells waiting for the day they are finally going to snap (I know because I married one of those kids and have to live with his emotional repression and damage).

Also at the 'if the neighbor can hear', going back to my ILs they can hear their neighbors dog fart in the night, some houses are joined and the walls are paper thin lol.

A drunk neighbor rambling on about zen and the art of cuddliness?

Mutinyonthecrunchie · 19/08/2023 21:13

Once you start shouting at anyone you've lost the upeer hand ime.

This.

I think you need to look at the effect on your dc to have 2 parents shouting at them to the extent that a neighbour feels the need to come round and check up, to be honest.
It isn't the neighbour's behaviour I am questioning here.

They still need to have heard the shouting in the first place. Him having a possible drink in him doesn’t make the op and her husband right for shouting at their kids so much that they have disturbed the neighbours.

And he wasn’t wrong in what he said anyway.
