Can you smell weed?

Diyae · 19/08/2023 19:08

I can. (Skanky neighbours.) I seem to smell it most places now though. Much more frequently than just fags - hardly ever smell tobacco these days.

Is this just how things are now? ☹️

Definitely smell it more but it doesn’t bother me, prefer it to just tobacco. Someone near me has suffered awful physical pain and it really helps them. But you can definitely smell the difference in quality!

Fleurbombeury · 19/08/2023 20:08

As far as I’m aware I’ve never smelled it. I assume I have, but i would not recognise it if it was in front of me.

Wow, you really hate it don’t you. I don’t smoke it and never have but have known quite a few people over the years who do and to be honest other than the smell I don’t really see what everyone’s problem with it is.
Just wondering do you ever drink alcohol?

Alcohol is a separate question really. Next door drinking wine doesn't force me, my clothes or washing to smell of weed. I've also worked to help people who are picking up the pieces after suffering the debilitating effects of weed smoking, particularly the stuff available nowadays.

I used to use it when I was young and I didn’t realised how badly it reeks. Even in a bag not used it does. I hope it’s legalised so people eat it instead. My downstairs neighbour smokes it and it actually comes up through the floors

My down stair neighbour smokes it to and the smell seems to come up through my kitchen cupboard for some reason

supersonicginandtonic · 19/08/2023 20:19

@ShineBright1209 if you work in substance misuse like I do and you regularly see cannabis psychosis then you realise it's not all good and it can be a problem. A lot of people use it with children in the house, the kids have no choice about that. It's selfish

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/08/2023 20:22

gwanmen · 19/08/2023 19:28

Excuse my ignorance but why don't people just eat it instead?

It's less controllable that way - if they smoke too much (which gives an instant hit) and they start feeling rough, they cough and can stop smoking, so it leaves the system fairly quickly.

If it's in brownies, there's no sign of anything happening for ages so they eat more, then they get a touch of the munchies, so they eat more and more until it hits all at once and they're stuck like that for hours. Nobody likes a whitey, never mind one that lasts for the best part of a day.

Cosycover · 19/08/2023 20:23

It really annoys me when people say it's harmless. It really really isn't.

User63847484848 · 19/08/2023 20:24

Yep
festivals, beaches, parks, london south bank the other day
never used to but not sure if that’s because cigarette smoke was more dominant

Sexnotgender · 19/08/2023 20:25

Yes, place I used to live I smelt it constantly. New place, don’t think I’ve come across it yet!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/08/2023 20:25

Nope. And it’s legal here.

OddBoots · 19/08/2023 20:27

Sometimes, not so much in the place I now live. It only bugs me when it is from someone driving, for obvious reasons.

AgnestaVipers · 19/08/2023 20:27

Some people leave a rank waft behind them where we live. It's gross - it literally turns my stomach. I assume it's skunk I'm smelling - I have a romantic notion that ordinary weed smells far less revolting.

That’s weird

ShineBright1209 · 19/08/2023 20:29

One of the PPs was having a personal dig about the people themselves and not just the smell. I think they said they are the worst kind of people.
My point on the alcohol is that at least when people smoke weed they generally just chill out and not cause any trouble where as when people get drunk they think they can fight the world and cause all sorts of trouble.
Walk in to any an and e department on a Friday/Saturday night and you’ll find a hell of a lot more pissed people than stoned people.

TrudyCampbell · 19/08/2023 20:30

dh and I were driving along a country road windows up and we passed a couple of people stood next to their car at the side, as we passed at 50mph I shit you not we got a whiff of weed in the car!
that must have been particularly stinky stuff!

I hate the smell of weed, wish the old resins blocks would come back into fashion because they didn't smell of cat piss.

megletthesecond · 19/08/2023 20:31

Almost always.
My skanky neighbours smoke it in their garden and it wafts into my house, it gets me down tbh. They've also done some thick DIY as usual so that it wafts through pipework / wall cavities and out through my meter cupboard. I cannot stand them.

plantingacattree · 19/08/2023 20:32

@blackdogdays yes, all strains smell different. Some smell nasty some smell nice in my opinion

Storynanny1 · 19/08/2023 20:32

I smell it every day somewhere in my town. Sometimes I can’t even see anyone visibly smoking it. Neighbour 3 doors down smokes it 3 times a day in his garden. We can tell the time by the smell if the wind is in the right direction.!
Its definitely getting more prevalent.

lljkk · 19/08/2023 20:35

I had no idea that MJ had a particular smell until kind of recently. I don't know if that's because reefers truly didn't smell when I was a stoner (1980s) or due to my previous bad sense of smell. I've spent my life not noticing smells that others commented on. My ability to think I can identify MJ smell has improved a lot in last 1-2 yrs.

I smell MJ all the time recently !! There's a specific neighbour (nice man but terrible resting bitch face) who often reeks. I can't tell if this development is my faulty olfactory senses tricking me or if it's in fact real. Yesterday it was very whiffy (3pmish) at the roadies' campsite at Earlham park in Norwich.

Comparing to another social issue doesn't negate drug misuse. Irrelevant argument.

Those who misuse alcohol, get pissed and violent are vile too, just for different reasons.

UsingChangeofName · 19/08/2023 20:37

Yes, smell it in so many places these days.
Sadly, people that use it know the police (Youth workers , Criminal Justice system, etc) just don't have the resources to deal with it.

Annaishere · 19/08/2023 20:39

Someone should genetically engineer it to make it smell nice

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 19/08/2023 20:58

My neighbour smokes it, my house and garage absolutely reek. We went for a walk yesterday evening (so a Friday night) round my estate and the smell was everywhere, mixed in with the bbqs. I feel like everyone smokes it now and to hell with the fact that it's still illegal. It worries me that people are driving and working with this stuff in their system.

lightinthebox · 19/08/2023 21:40

Working in a supermarket I’d rather deal with a stoned person than an aggressive, drunk person.

It’s no worse (better even) than alcohol. Some people have a glass of wine to relax, others a bit of weed. Both have the capacity for misuse but are fine in moderation.

UsingChangeofName · 19/08/2023 21:46

Except if someone is having a glass of wine or a can of cider near me, it doesn't affect me but if someone is smoking weed near me, then it does.
