Not only did Lucy Letby kill and badly hurt babies…

She also prepared the memory boxes for parents of the dead children. Can you imagine having a memory box with photos and footprints of your dead child which had been taken by his or her merger?

That goes way beyond the murder. I just don't know how the families are coping.

Don't most of us have facial asymmetry?

Not to defend LL, but if we're going down the 'well, her face looks a bit odd' route, we're heading into Victorian methods of conviction. How about a nice bit of phrenology for good measure?

Yes.

And it can be from anything in our lifestyle, due to illness or many other factors over the course of our lives.

Google is a wonderous thing.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 20/08/2023 22:30

Don’t whatever you do go down the appeal rabbit hole like I did. I saw a video saying she’d appeal and someone at least was saying she’s been blamed for it and it’s a cover up. I do think the hospital do have to take responsibility too but I think there’s no doubt in my mind now that she murdered the babies. Who else could have done it?

Fiekcjdiwldnfjri · 20/08/2023 22:35

HRTFT but why can’t they not even have CCTV in hospital corridors outside of rooms? Or do they?

I don’t doubt she did this. I’ve listened to every episode of the podcast and to me there was never any doubt. For the people unsure of her guilt I’d really recommend listening to it.

I actually feel a bit sorry for him. I usually have zero sympathy for cheaters, if he did cheat on his wife, but his life is now destroyed.

Having an affair rumbled is one thing. It’s a whole other massive shit show if you had to give evidence as it turns out she’s a child killer. He will have lost everything, which doesn’t really seem fitting to his crime.

There are so many more people affected by her actions, not just those poor babies and their parents.

Especially him being a baby doctor, knowing she killed babies FOR him. To get closer to him. Knowing babies died- were killed- because (not really because, but that's how it would feel) because of you.

I can't imagine coming back from that.

Absolutely the vast majority of people fall some where in the middle

The extremes of of asymmetry/symmetry are different

Nothing to do with phrenology! I'm sure you've seen people with strokes or Bells Palsy who have extreme asymmetry who have clear pathology

FWIW I think LL's asymmetry falls outside the usual range of normal - and looking at her face makes me feel slightly 'uncomfortable' for the want of a better word

People who have SEMH for example have neurological soft signs like this - not saying she has SEMH it's just a curious association

Squidlette · 20/08/2023 23:08

But would you have thought that before you knew what she'd been accused of? Or in any of the non mugshot photos? I dread to think what photos would be dredged up of me. My passport photo is bad enough.

Efacsen · 20/08/2023 23:10

AIstolemylunch · 20/08/2023 22:16

Are you saying she had brain damage from her birth? Seems unlikely if she completed a nursing degree.

I also noticed the unusual amount of asymmetry in her face though.

Obviously brain damage can be minor or very localised and cause less severe problems which might only show in subtle ways like personality development or learning style or cognitive profiles or epilepsy insufficient to prevent LL training to be a nurse

Long ago ADHD was called minimal brain damage happening a birth before the genetic factors were elucidated

I was interested to read that she was a very average middle of the road student - i'd somehow got the impression that she was very bright from the court case

Though considering how long it took to stop her maybe her intelligence is more of the wily rather than academic kind

Don't we all look like dead-eyed psychopaths in our passport photographs!!

I followed the court case quite closely so knew exactly what she'd been accused of and the photos of her shown during the trial were very different smiling / animated - scrubbed from FB or posing for the local press when fundraising to build a new unit

The mugshot was shown for the first time on Friday when when the verdict was announced

SomethingSmellsOffHere · 20/08/2023 23:22

Seriously, you are saying her murderous spree can be attributed to her lack of facial symmetry, which could be brain damage.

Are you seriously spouting this bollocks with a straight face?

No not saying that at all - if you've read any of the thread at all you will see there's been quite a long discussion about LLs alleged traumatic birth and the impact on her which my post was a minor contribution

The discussion arose from the Prof of Forensic Psych's comments about this on Panorama

So perhaps you'd like to tell him and the producers at the BBC that they were 'spouting bollocks' too

Quite

Her face looks pretty normal to me.

All these comments are just about witch burning and desparately looking for an explanation.

And it's as bad as fucking conspiracy theory ravings.

salsmum · 21/08/2023 03:09

What I don't understand is this... if a parent is suspected of harming their child there's hospital rooms with cameras so why couldn't they have put a covert camera in the room/s she worked in? I think she enjoyed putting the parents through Hell and then pushing her way to the front when they were at their most vulnerable to appear the nurse that 'went that extra mile' to 'help' them! My DD was born at 29 weeks and you get to know all the nurses in NICO and form a close bond. The nurses in charge of your baby take sats obs regularly and handle your child more than you can so I'm wondering why nurses weren't checking her obs history?. Pure evil and no less I hope they lock her up and throw away the key!

Lalgarh · 21/08/2023 08:37

This morning on the radio it said the 1st 2 deaths were attributed to "medication errors" rather than unexpected deaths; which to me would make it even MORE alarming that nothing was reviewed.

Is it rather that they expect staff to mess up because there's a "long hours" / macho / martyr mentality that expects staff to work till they are so exhausted they mess up?

Daisy155 · 21/08/2023 09:33

Reading through the thread it seems people are shocked someone like her could commit a vile crime like this, because she most likely look like anyone.

Would it have been ok if she was man or people who our media usually associate with being a criminal?

Some people are just evil, that's it!

As shocking as it is, it's not being a psychopath no mental illness nothing.

She wanted someones attention, she was desperate and probably enjoyed killing these poor babies.

Let's not try to find the human element within her, she had none.

The people I feel sorry for are those poor parents who lost their babies, I lost my son last year as a still born because of medical negligence. No one understands the pain of Burying your own baby. The pain never ever goes away you just learn to live with it and then at times it hits you like a ton of bricks. I will never forgive the midwife who continuously fobbed me off and when my baby died she was standing at my bed the next morning pretending to be concerned after weeks of her almost refusing to answer my questions and changing my appointments.

Let's normalise some not all, some of these people in these "caring" professions are just evil and use their careers to hide behind their devious behaviour.

Anyway to find out she prepared the memory box is the most disgusting thing I have ever read. Do you know how heavy and heart wrenching it is to leave the hospital with a memory box instead of your baby?

I am truly heartbroken for those parents and those beautiful babies that would have been in primary school. I don't feel sorry for the man she had an affair with nor do I feel sorry for anyone still defending her.

It's disgusting with all this evidence I even saw some women say, they think she is innocent why because she looks the way she does? Because she looks like anyone in the streets?

Ask yourselves if she looked like what? Then you would believe it ?
What exactly are we saying here?

MrsFiddle · 21/08/2023 10:08

I don't understand all this emphasis on looks - look at any serial killer in history and many look like ordinary everyday people. Most female serial killers do work in the health industry though and the % of them has remained fairly consistent over the years as opposed to the heyday of the male serial killers in the 1970s and 1980s. Female serial killers do not go out on the streets - they kill at home or at work.

I’ve not listened to the podcast (plan to) but since seeing the panorama documentary and seeing other evidence reported then it’s true, there’s no doubt she is guilty.

Not that this is relatable really but the second company I worked for as a teenager I was bullied horrendously at, by the senior secretary who’d got a promotion. Everything from pinches to nasty comments about my work, personal life, and downright bullying. She’d also comment when I got my hair permed how she’d love to do that but it wouldn’t suit her/damage her hair. It was late 80s and I had no idea how to handle her especially as I’d been bullied in secondary school. To look at her she was 5ft6/7, slim, attractive with long dark blonde hair and blue eyes and in her mid 20s, living with a boyfriend but fairly unremarkable life.

It turned out after I left she’d been bullying the graduates there too (couldn’t have that!) and on a drunken night out had confided to someone she was jealous of me, god knows why! I wasn’t especially confident but was very pretty (that fades obvs!)! But first glance at her you’d never expect it going by her looks.

MrsFiddle · 21/08/2023 10:54

I'm guessing that much more was revealed in the actual trial as opposed to what was on the documentary and podcast so how relevant are they actually now?

ButterCrackers · 21/08/2023 11:35

It’s a shame this law change didn’t come in before now. Insulting the families further after putting them (and everyone else) through a gruelling court case, rather than own up when caught.

I hope the judge brings the full weight of the law down on her terms of incarceration.

Surely the law could have been changed ages ago but no. Such a disgrace.

Lalgarh · 21/08/2023 11:37

Letby not in court

Laurapb88 · 21/08/2023 11:47

I think it's best she's not there if I'm honest, she has no guilt and no empathy and I think she would be enjoying these impact statements, I think she would be reveling in it and make her feel power in the devastation she has caused all the family's. She should however be there to here she will never be released from prison

AnnieSnap · 21/08/2023 13:06

The sentence is a whole life order in each case, including those of attempted murder.

I imagine if she was expressionless and stoic that would be harder for the victims’ parent to watch than if she sobbed with regret. And if she DID sob with regret it would be only for her and what her life is now like

Isoqueen · 21/08/2023 13:37

That woman is like a big kid seeking attention with no empathy for babies whatsoever. She hadn’t had any, she hadn’t been brought up with little sisters or brothers and she was her family’s precious darling. All she seems to think about is self, self, self. Hope she gets well punished in jail and I am sure she will - she deserves whatever is coming her way.

Citation needed on that, there was a heavily political influenced instant recently, but it wasn't because our prisons are considered 'unacceptably bad' with regards to Germany..

I can't find the link now but it was reported in the German press. I can assure you that I am not making it up.
