Nicest celebrity you've ever met?

nicestcelebs · 09/08/2023 22:34

Mine is Mel C / Sporty Spice,

Met her recently in a totally non-celeb type situation and - with hindsight - should probably have left her be. But the inner 1990s teen in me was compelled to approach her. Was completely starstruck since having a girl crush on her since the mid 1990s so said hello.

She was SO NICE, chatty, just lovely, down to earth friendly and beautiful.

Really even more in awe of her than ever now, tbh.

I've said it before, but I was introduced to Neil Morrisey by a mutual friend (who unfortunately has since died.) He drinks in our local and was very close to the mutual friend. Neil is lovely, very down to earth and friendly. He's just known as Neil down the pub. He wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and it shows. No airs and graces.

Someone I know met Neil Morrissey in a pub back in the 2000s and apparently told him lots of personal (relatively flattering, I guess) information about Amanda Holden's genitals so I'm not sure he's much of a gentleman.

Emma Willis. I met her in a bathroom at Leeds University while her husband Matt was doing a gig. She was chatting to everyone and fixing her hair/make up in the mirror like the rest of us. Very, very down to earth and just generally lovely!

I can’t for the life of me remember her name, but the woman that played Hayley in Corrie.

Julie Hesmondhalgh. I saw her in a one-woman play with my sister and niece (in which she was astonishing). She came over to our table in the bar after the show. Absolutely lovely, chatty and down-to-earth.

Used to work a lot with celebs. My very favourite is Jonny Vegas just delightful

Ditto Johnny Vegas - met him in a queue in John Lewis. Very chatty and normal (as was his wife). He smelled absolutely delicious

He was at a comicon thing signing autographs and had photos of him from when he was in game of thrones. I think he was quite chuffed that I recognised him as the number taker and also the magician in the magicians house.

thaegumathteth · 11/08/2023 14:55

@elliejjtiny this has made me laugh because my now 16 year old was utterly petrified of the number taker and I'd totally forgotten

Catsanfan · 11/08/2023 15:02

I've met Kim Cattrall, she was lovely. Met (at the time) Prince Charles who seemed nice but it did seem quite for show

maddiemookins16mum · 11/08/2023 15:16

Jill Dando. She was beautiful.

A303 · 11/08/2023 17:03

George Michael
Down to earth, relaxed and a great sense of humour.

King Charles (Prince at the time)
Friendly, interested and probably the most intelligent person I have met.

Barry McGuigan
If he was your personal trainer you would achieve everything. A massive ball of focused bright energy.

Goodluckanddontfitup · 11/08/2023 19:42

Dolly Parton, such a lovely lady who made a point to say hello to everyone, really surprising for such a big celebrity

I went to a charity concert once and Barry McGuigan sang Squeeze's Tempted. He's got a really good voice.

King Charles strikes me as very shy and socially awkward. I am not a fan of his but I think he is a man who is in a public role which doesn't suit his personality at all. Same when he was Prince.

A303 · 12/08/2023 09:46

@LimeDrizzled
Absolutely agree with you. His mindset is in the right place with regard to humanity, but what a waste for him to be King. Same with William also but over these two tenures I believe we will see the monarchy change into a smaller and more focused entity with a bit of an edge for challenging political insanity.

Pollydarling · 12/08/2023 18:29

Simon Cowell really surprised me with his kindness, met David Walliams shortly after and he was an arsehole to my 9year old.

Grapewrath · 12/08/2023 20:47

Fearne cotton was absolutely lovely and really normal and chatty
Michelle Heaton- I worked as a waitress and met some celebs famous in the noughties and she was lovely and very kind to me which stood out among loads of rude wannabes
Natasha Hamilton was really nice too when I met her actually

What happened?? :( Not the first time I've heard this happen 😦

Maireas · 12/08/2023 20:57

Cherie Booth (Blair). So interesting, intelligent and funny. Genuinely helpful and kind.

Greenwitchhorse · 12/08/2023 21:03

That was an interesting read and a good reminder that there is no need for people who happen to be famous to behave like divas...

I actually met the worst 'celebrity' ever this week at an art event (I am an artist): Tracey Emin.

She made me feel like I was dirt on her shoes and literally waved me away when I briefly said hi to her and mentioned that I liked her work...this was a professional event, not me intruding on her private life so it was utterly shocking. Lost all respect for her.

Woahtherehoney · 12/08/2023 21:05

I’ve met a few celebs but the ones that stand out

Jimmy Carr - just the absolute nicest, funniest man. Very quietly spoken and just seemed so genuine.

Russell Brand - I used to work in a supermarket years ago and he was a regular. Hilarious - like naturally so, and so bloody handsome in real life haha.

Ian Wright - just all round wonderful. Done an event at my work and answered so many questions, took the time to get to know people and had such a fun, cheeky sense of humour.

She won a competition (not to meet him but he was involved in the show), we had a lovely lady escorting us around backstage and she spotted him and took us over to introduce dd. He barely engaged with her, wasn't the least bit interested in even the shortest conversation. Which to a degree I understand but his books were so popular back then and she was a huge fan it was so disappointing for her.

Oh no :( It honestly doesn't take much for him to at least say hello :(

jenbj · 12/08/2023 21:46

I've met many celebrities through my job.
The nicest was Gordon Ramsay. Polite and helpful and very nice. Also Bob Geldof and Rob Rinder.
The rudest was Nick Knowles. Horrible man.

LokiCokey · 12/08/2023 21:57

Geoffrey Hughes (Onslow from Keeping up Appearances) was lovely, he approached me and made a big fuss of my dog, didn't twig who it was until he'd gone, just kept thinking he seemed familiar!!! Grin

raquelwelsh · 12/08/2023 21:57

Jimmy Carr, Dannii Minogue and Paul Nicholls (anyone else remember him?) They were all genuinely lovely, friendly, patient and sweet. They all showed genuine interest in everyone they spoke to and Paul Nicholls in particular I remember being incredibly chatty and normal.

Worst was Robbie Coltrane. Met him as a child and he was horrible to me. Told me to f* off and pushed me out his way. I was about 9 years old. That stuck with me forever and while I can appreciate everyone has bad days, that was not ok.
Happy to see Mel C seems lovely in real life and from more than one source too! That's made me really happy!

Anton Du Beke, checked him into a hotel and he was just lovely.

Yes I second Anton. Met him a couple of times and he was so lovely.

I’ll also add in Betty White and Adam Driver
