Nicest celebrity you've ever met?

Mine is Mel C / Sporty Spice,

Met her recently in a totally non-celeb type situation and - with hindsight - should probably have left her be. But the inner 1990s teen in me was compelled to approach her. Was completely starstruck since having a girl crush on her since the mid 1990s so said hello.

She was SO NICE, chatty, just lovely, down to earth friendly and beautiful.

Really even more in awe of her than ever now, tbh.

Jeremy Beecham, I used to see him about in a district of Newcastle. I got talking to him and said, "Oh, I know you!"

He looked quite scared, but I started to talk about how I thought he did a good job. He used to make a fuss of my Labrador and always greeted her by name.

I went to school with his son and daughter. Proper down to earth lovely people. If you didn't know them by their surname you would never guess who they were.

They have done really well for themselves too.

He was a proper socialist, could have sent them to private school but refused and sent them to the state system.

Reading how lovely Ncute Gatwa and Peter Egan are has put a smile of my face this morning.

I’ve exchanged a couple of tweets with the latter but not met him. Mum and I have been fans since Ever Decreasing Circles 😂.

Kazzyhoward · 10/08/2023 10:28

Olivia Newton John - absolutely lovely and kind, very chatty with everyone.

Derrymum123 · 10/08/2023 10:29

Tyson Fury. Absolutely lovely person, very down to earth.
Met Craig and Charlie from The Proclaimers both were absolutely lovely too.

Newgolddream70 · 10/08/2023 10:36

I met Martin Kemp at a book signing at London Victoria train station around 20 years ago. He was lovely and had the bluest eyes! I was a bit star-struck and couldn't really speak. I had my photo taken with him.

Lee Evans was nice, his wife even nicer and Timothy Spall was an absolute genuine gentleman.

I listened to a podcast interview with Rafe Spall (Comfort Eating With Grace Dent) and I want to marry him now. Possibly the loveliest man in the world. It must run in the family.

Matt and Luke Goss.
I'm a fan and have met them several times. Matt more. Both very charming and can be cheeky and funny. They smell absolutely bloody amazing too!!! (and give the best hugs)

You lucky thing, I am jealous!

Choccyp1g · 10/08/2023 10:57

Chesney Hawkes. Was introduced at mutual friend's BBQ, and within moments I'd completely forgotten he was famous. Just had a lovely normal chat like you would when meeting a friend of a friend.

I have been around a few through my job (I don't work with them, but my job means I am sometimes within earshot for considerable periods of time) and I sometimes have to do the usual introductions and small talk for a few minutes.

Of the "famous" people I have been around, I have to say that the nicest was Richard Hammond, he's just basically lovely, very kind and happy to chat about anything and everything.

The next nicest has got to be, and I'm not joking, but Post Malone is just so bloody nice, not at all like he might seem from his music and videos. I'm not sure what I was expecting him to be like, but fucking hell, the guy's astonishingly friendly, you'd honestly want to take him home to meet your Nan.

I’ve never met Richard Hammond but he was taught by one of my favourite teachers. Richard wrote an article saying how awful this teacher was! I can’t remember the details though,

James Norton. I even posted a thread about the meeting because I was just taken aback by how UNBELIEVABLY nice he was 😯 I've met him one more time since then and he recognised me (even though I was trying to actually avoid him as I was worried he would think I'm seeking him out like some weird stalker 😅) and again he was just INCREDIBLY nice. He's an absolute sweetheart

SallyWD · 10/08/2023 11:45

Does anyone else find these threads a little gushy? It's like people can't believe a celebrity is actually a human being and might be fairly nice. Also a lot of these meetings with celebs are at book signings etc where you interact for 5 seconds. I mean, I've met many celebrities briefly and they seemed perfectly nice but I can't possibly know if they actually are lovely from that very brief moment.
Anyway, I know it's just a bit of fun so I'll shut up now!

Some are not very nice at all even at book signings. Actually quite a few are quite rude and dismissive.

My post (although absolutely gushy 🤣) about James Norton was in a situation where he wasn't expected to do anything, as it was very late and he wasn't obliged to sign autographs or talk to anyone. It was nearly midnight after he spent 4 hours on stage cutting in wrists and talking about/acting out sexual abuse ("A Little Life" is a bloody torturous play 🤦‍♀️). He could have gone home without anyone noticing, but he spent AGES talking to everyone, was very chatty and just an absolutely lovely human being. I definitely would NOT have been this nice in his position 🤪

I have a crush on James Norton so of course I believe he's a thoroughly decent person 😂. All the footage I've seen of him (including the footage of him meeting fans after performing A Little Life) shows him to be lovely and I would also gush over him.
It's just I used to work in a book shop and celebs came in for book signings. Some were pretty rude to us staff but turned on the charm for their fans. Of course everyone went away thinking "Oh they're soooo lovely. So down to earth!" when I'd seen them being condescending and unfriendly. Not all of them, of course. I do remember Barbara Windsor and Nigella Lawson being nice to everyone before the general public arrived.

Love this thread 😊
In my post I forgot Sean Connery & Harrison Ford. It wasnt really a meeting though. Sean was at a small room function we attended & he was the guest speaker. Harrison is a funny story. We were alone in the foyer of a London hotel sitting having a drink. We noticed a room off the area we were in was beginning to fill up with photographers. We wondered what was going on. It turned out to be a press conference. Harrison Ford walked towards us, looked straight at me, smiled & said Hello...... How are you, are you going in. My heart was racing. He thought I was someone else that he knew 🤣
He was stunning 🤣

Nicest celeb for me was my ex FIL.

Now that's cryptic

BabyStopCryin · 10/08/2023 16:59

Which Mel was that? I met Joanna Lumley when she cane in to do some promo work for us. She was so lovely and patient, stayed much longer than she was supposed to and asked us to send the cheque to a Gurkha charity.

Lig · 10/08/2023 17:06

Liam Gallagher

He gets some stick for the things he says/how he acts, but dh and I found him really friendly and funny. He was chatting to us and the locals in the pub like old friends, no airs or graces.

mrandmrsrobinson · 10/08/2023 17:57

Linda Bellingham. Used to bump into her in a Spanish supermarket

My cousin in law bumped into him recently, he said he was such a lovely chap, was happy to take photos and chat. It was a dream come true moment for CIL. He's a massive fan.

TenoringBehind · 11/08/2023 09:01

Paul Merton

I used to work in a bookshop that he visited very regularly. He lived round the corner. He was always chatty (but not too chatty) and polite and friendly. I almost didn’t recognise him the first time because he looked very different in real life (taller and quite disheveled).

scrumble767 · 11/08/2023 09:06

Gary Barlow is absolutely lovely 🥰

NancyJoan · 11/08/2023 09:19

Tara Palmer Tompkinson. She was so, so fun, and lovely and generous. I met her through work and saw her a few times afterwards. Went back her flat once for a wee.
