The immigrant barge - what’s actually wrong with using it?

Educate me!

I looked at pics from the inside, it all looks very much like standard student accommodation to me, including common rooms/relaxation areas/health support on board. Residents can go on & off the boat, it’s passed fire etc safety and been used to house people in lots of other situations. I don’t understand why people think it’s not ok. Can anyone explain please?

I haven’t bandied insulting words about though. You can check all my posts in this thread and you won’t find any.

Don't you think that 'racist' is insulting ?

Where you not aware that screening' means an assessment?

Viz ;"Sexual health screening When warranted, offer a full sexual health screen—including testing for HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhoea—as part of an overall health assessment, taking care to be culturally sensitive (for example, some migrants may wish to discuss this only with health professionals of the same gender). Consider that if the person has a history of sexual assault or rape; they may struggle to disclose their trauma. A trauma informed approach is recommended."

That doesn’t say every immigrant gets a health check. Or screening. Or assessment.

Yes. That’s why I don’t say it. Like I said, check my posts.

This ship is like many, many others used in the North Sea to house workers on the rigs. Safety is paramount.

I've no idea. Why don't you ask the authority that erected them?

But this hotel wasn't and they didn't want to share rooms. They think they should have 5* living. Their entitlement is outrageous.

The Fire Srrvice said the Bibby Stockholm wasn't safe. Immigrants on the barge were evacuated by the government after Legionella was found on board, so pox infested firetrap is accurate.🤷‍♀️

Yes apart from the fact they have doubled the number of people it holds & put people on there this week with Legionella in the water!

Apart from that yes safety is paramount! 🙄

pointythings · 13/08/2023 18:35

The Bibby Stockholm was planned to hold double its capacity, which inherently reduces safety. People were allowed to board without checks for legionella being fully complete. The Fire Brigade voiced concerns. Anyone who thinks that is fine is lacking in morality.

Health checks are a safety measure that British residents benefit from given many asylum seekers come from countries where serious contagious diseases are endemic. That's common sense. Having outbreaks of these diseases would do NHS waiting lists no good at all.

So the 6 migrants who died in the channel yesterday were from Afghanistan!

Not economic migrants from Albania or anywhere else!

Refuges, trying to escape the Taliban, after yet another of the Govt's cock-ups, our evacuation from Kabul!

Anyone who doesn't think that was a complete cock-up needs to watch the Channel 4 documentary telling the story of what our Military were put through while Dominic Raab was on holiday!

www.channel4.com/programmes/evacuation

What ever the rights & wrongs of the bloody distraction barge this Govt needs to go!

There are designated Safe Routes from Afghanistan

@EllenVannen I presume you didn't cheer for the Brit who won the 5000 and 10000m at the London Olympics?

What has that got to do with that post?

jgw1 · 13/08/2023 19:03

Is the cost of a health check why you @EllenVannen don't think the UK should take asylum seekers?

When I was an economic migrant I had a health check at the expense of the country I moved to.

Australia is a signatory.

They have used Nauru to get boats to zero.

No they got the boats to zero by firing on a boat of refugees and then letting 353 drown from another boat. More like a war crime than anything else.

jgw1 · 13/08/2023 19:14

@EllenVannen do you find these safe routes troubling?

It’s on repeat this empty house and tax stuff, not sure if they answer any direct questions.

Yes.
jgw1 I asked you about your empty house comments of which you post about 3 on every page. You said that tax here should be higher and the system should be fairer which didn’t really answer my question so I’ll try again:

What is your definition of an empty house? If it is just used for holidays does it, in your opinion, qualify as empty?
Do you think houses left empty should be seized? I’d have thought that’s a dangerous path to go down but maybe you think it’s acceptable.
However if you do think seizing empty properties is acceptable, for how long can they be left empty before they are requisitioned by the state?

JanglyBeads · 13/08/2023 19:31

A grand total of 22 Afghanis have been admitted via the safe resettlement scheme

The reason for the tough stance on immigrants is that the Tories are trying to appeal to the large number of UK voters that want all foreigners to go home. If there weren't so many racists in this country this would not be their policy. It is a reflection on our society, sadly.

There are racists in every country. That’s most of the reason people are seeking asylum.

There are many reasons to have rules about who lives in your country that aren’t about racism. It’s why the EU won’t let U.K. citizens just rock up and live in their borders. It’s not about our race or colour.

Totally agree with this. And most of the public will agree especially after what we were put through with Covid restrictions.

Do we really think the public will accept any more restrictions if there was any outbreaks?!

But why do the EU not let anyone live in their member states even when we were able to prior to Brexit. Are they racists or do you think…there may be other reasons.

Sunak was embarrassed that after 3 weeks no migrants were on the barge so a few migrants were put on for the PR before waiting for the test results... worked out well!

He really is an idiot.
