Your favourite Netflix documentary?

I’m looking for something new to watch and rather than series/films I think I want to start getting stuck into some documentaries.

So, what do you recommend please? New or old, what’s been your favourite? Open to all subject areas!

I have never watched Netflix 😊 but I’m the odd one out in my family who all love it. Dd has made me an account and I’m going to be watching so many of these!

Three identical stranngers. I see others have recomended it, I can't explain what it is about without spoiling it.

Finding Mike. A person dies, but then he isn't who his friends thought.

The Bridge, I will include a spoiler because you might want to be forewarned. It's about people jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

GinJeanie · 08/08/2023 05:44

Keep Sweet, Pray and Obey. It's about the FLDS - a radical religious sect whose members practise polygamy. Really shocking but well worth a watch.

Also, totally agree that the Wham doc is just brilliant 🌟.

Happy viewing!

The one about Micheal Jordan/basketball.

dramoy · 08/08/2023 06:08

not sure if it was on then but the one about OJ simpson/LA riots.

themessygarden · 08/08/2023 06:20

Clicked on the Arnold Schwarzenegger one out of curiosity, ended up watching all 3 episodes, really enjoyed it. Would recommend.

MossCow · 08/08/2023 07:13

Do you think he murdered her?

Absolutely. And what I love about it is that it's completely fawning and told from his side and he still comes off badly. He's so very into himself it's fascinating.

Icarus about how the Russian's have got around the anti-doping laws in sports. Very interesting.

LunaNorth · 08/08/2023 07:21

Shameless placemark.

Turmerictolly · 08/08/2023 07:33

.

Fawful · 08/08/2023 08:53

Yes, Icarus is amazing. Starts off with a cyclist/journalist trying to see if he can dope and win races undetected, and ends up with him befriending the Russian scientist who was responsible for state-sponsored doping, including at the Olympic Games that got Russia banned at the Olympics, and who during the course of the documentary became the whistleblower.
At one point the Russian scientist is reading Animal Farm or 1984 (can't remember which) and marvelling to the camera how much it does remind him of present day Russia... Great insights about the country's dysfunction.

EtonMessy · 08/08/2023 21:36

The Deepest Breath .
The Biggest Little Farm, about biodiversity farming is amazing too , seeing a couple take on a barren Californian farm land and transform it using natural methods and encouraging nature.

cansu · 08/08/2023 21:40

14 peaks and blackfish were both brilliant.

Pugdogmom · 08/08/2023 21:42

This is on I player, but I'm pretty hooked on Russia the fall of Communism . Its fascinating

IveHadItUpToHere · 08/08/2023 21:47

The Keepers - it focuses on a murdered nun and abuse in a Catholic school
The Staircase - case about whether a man murdered his wife
The Martha Mitchell Effect - about Watergate and how a Cabinet member's wife played a role in the expose and how she was treated
Murdaugh Murders - jawdropping - about the scandals and murders linked to one family.

Annalisatheantelope · 08/08/2023 21:50

A Lion In The House, if you want to have your heart ripped out and never feel the same again.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/08/2023 22:03

The Puppet Master was weirdly and scarily compelling.
There's also one about a French woman who was murdered in County Cork, which was also very well made.

TokyoSushi · 08/08/2023 22:06

Athlete A, fascinating and harrowing at the same time.
