I’m looking for something new to watch and rather than series/films I think I want to start getting stuck into some documentaries.

So, what do you recommend please? New or old, what’s been your favourite? Open to all subject areas!

Definitely Blackfish, The Deepest Breath and Fyre.

I like Betting on Zero about the Herbalife MLM company.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/08/2023 22:02

Another vote for Wild Wild Country - it's jaw dropping (and quite funny in parts)

I watched The Order of Myths last night, it's about Mardi Gras in Mobile Alabama and how it's still racially segregated to a fairly large extent. It was really eye-opening and interesting.

3 identical strangers is great
My octopus teacher (if you like nature)

The mark Cavendish was excellent to watch. Not Netflix but I got Disney plus just to watch dopesick , best documentary and years after watching it I still get riled by the sackler family, just shameful!

Dopesick is a drama not a documentary

pandora206 · 07/08/2023 22:10

14 Peaks - a tale of single-minded endurance climbing the world's highest peaks
Daughters of Destiny - a very moving story of young children taken from poverty and educated in a boarding school
Maiden - an all-female crew wins the Whitbread round the world yacht race

DarkSpark · 07/08/2023 22:12

The Pharmacist is a documentary on the same topic as dopesick. I watched it on Netflix quite a while ago but if it's still on there it's very good.

Woodstock 99 was eye popping and rather wild

Forgot about that! Definitely worth a watch.

Uglyducklingswan · 07/08/2023 22:15

If you see Blackfish then Seaspiracy is on a similar theme and excellent.
I liked Cheer (2 series)
And someone recently recommended Ancient Apocalypse to me but I haven’t seen yet so can’t couch for it.

DanceWithTheBigBoysAgain · 07/08/2023 22:19

I thought Manhunt: the hunt for the nail bomber was quite good.

I just posted this after you. Do you think he murdered her?

I know you didn’t ask me but I definitely think he did! Especially after they went to Germany (won’t give any spoilers for those who haven’t watched it).

ThePortlyPinUp · 07/08/2023 22:25

Evil Genius-Netflix
It starts off as one event and then escalates quickly.

OooohAhhhh · 07/08/2023 22:30

The deepest breath is amazing. It's about free divers

RoachFish · 07/08/2023 22:45

If you are into arts the Andy Warhol one is amazing and the Kurt Cobain one is worth a watch too.

Cantonet · 07/08/2023 22:49

Wham.
Really touching, lovely & sad.
I was a similar age as them & not really a fan at the time. I didn't realise how young & talented they were at the time.
It's so worth watching.

Tinata · 07/08/2023 22:51

Surely someone has already said this but the last breath is one of the best things I’ve ever watched! So good!

Blackfish is also a classic

WildImaginings · 07/08/2023 22:51

The Innocent Man
The Keepers
Evil Genius

Just checked.. not one person 😧 Just to clarify it is different from the deepest breath but that has been recommended a lot so I’m going to have to watch that now

Changeychang · 07/08/2023 22:56

The Pharmacist (main guy is a top bloke)

Tell me who I am (be prepared it is very very dark)

DarkDarkNight · 07/08/2023 22:59

The Last Dance. I’m not a particularly big sports fan and don’t know a lot about basketball, but I was in Junior school when Michael Jordan was huge.

I just found it absolutely captivating. It’s really not normally my kind of thing but I couldn’t stop watching.

lottielimejuice · 07/08/2023 23:01

I actually watched the deepest breathe the other night and thought it was amazing. Also liked the documentary about the failed fyre festival

Sodie · 07/08/2023 23:04

Lion in the house
Kingdom of us
We are the champions (especially the cheese throwing one and chilli eating contest)
American murder
Fyre

Friendofdennis · 07/08/2023 23:13

Filthy Rich. Epstein. Shocking but very good
