I’m looking for something new to watch and rather than series/films I think I want to start getting stuck into some documentaries.

So, what do you recommend please? New or old, what’s been your favourite? Open to all subject areas!

Agree with @DarkDarkNight the Last Dance is great.

That’s reminded me of the other basketball doc on Netflix, Last Chance U. It follows a college basketball team in East LA and its some of the best made TV I’ve ever seen.

I also really enjoyed both series of Cheer. Made by the same people.

3 identical strangers is great
My octopus teacher (if you like nature)

These are my top two also. I hate nature programmes, especially anything to do with sea creatures but found myself weeping at the end of Octopus Teacher!

I also enjoyed Class Action Park which was about a theme park in upstate New York in the 80s. If you enjoyed the freedom of being a latchkey kid of the 80s you’ll identify with the joyful anarchy but also sadly, some of the dangers.

The Keepers is so good and so infuriating. Also enjoyed Don't F*ck with Cats and Audrey & Daisy (infuriating, again).

If you also enjoy podcasts while driving/cooking etc, there are some fab documentary series on BBC Sounds - a really good one about the Trojan Horse Scandal, A very British Cult is also good and I'm currently listening to one about the Crossbow Killing on Anglesea.

Wham! For me too

Kenough · 07/08/2023 23:39

Our Father (about a dodgy fertility dr who used his own sperm) was horrifying and fascinating.

I liked the one about Oasis, it just took me right back to that time.

Hope Frozen is a heartbreaking and very compelling story about a family who freeze their toddler just after she passes away in the hope to bring her back to life. Explores cryogenics and it's flaws.

I agree with Octopus Teacher (so wholesome), American Murder: The family next door (really haunts me and I think about those girls often), Making a murderer (so many twists and turns).

Lots of new ones to watch added to my list after reading this thread.

Abducted in Plain Sight

The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez

Both great yet totally shocking documentaries!

bert3400 · 08/08/2023 01:15

Victim/Suspect - absolutely shocking, regarding young women reporting a rape crime but then the police arresting them for fake accusations (US)

Mark Cavendish - heartwarming

Wheredoesyokoshairendandpubesbegin · 08/08/2023 01:20

@honeyfox thank you, that sounds right up my street.

I agree with Tiger King!
I found the Woodstock 99 doc quite upsetting and didn't finish it.
The Tinder Swindler
Fyre
