How many people does a frozen garlic baguette feed

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 07/08/2023 18:26

In your house?

A friend who is a competitive underfeeder claims 1 baguette feeds 2 adults and 4 teenagers. I say she’s fucking ridiculous.

I’ve eaten half of one whilst typing this so assume there’s a middle ground

Unless it’s similar to the mumsnet chicken

Two.

Unless I’m pissed & starving, in which case it gets smothered in grated cheese & feeds one.

In my house one baguette is served for 2 adults and 2 kids age 5 and 8. To accompany a boring mid week dinner like spaghetti bolognaise. I’m sure my family would prefer more garlic bread, but it’s not happening.

Sometimes we have the in-laws over and then I would do 2 baguettes even though it’s just an extra 2 adults. There is never any left over.

Same here. If I served more, then they'd fill up on the bread, which isn't particularly nutritious. I'm not that big a fan though, so only ever eat one slice. The kids love it, but still only need a couple of slices each.

30 replies in 6 minutes on a thread about garlic bread?! I’ve found my people.

In my world the ends cannot count as a proper slice! Crunchy, bready and not enough garlic!

Agreed re end bits. As they always come in odd numbers, DH gets the extra one, but two of his bits are the end bits.

I take back what I said about us being "normal" in my previous post.

I am normal. DH likes the ends and will even eat the end slice of a loaf of bread!

LadinLee · 07/08/2023 18:59

Unless the baguette is an accompaniment to a meal then between 1 and 2 people in my house!

YukoandHiro · 07/08/2023 18:59

Depends what with. 4 if with a massive bowl of pasta. 2 if with a salad with some protein on the top.

SwedishEdith · 07/08/2023 19:00

One between 4 here as they're accompaniments to a pasta meal, usually. Half baguette as well as your dinner is quite a lot of food.

Has anyone ever made those TikTok garlic baguettes where the splodge a load of spag bol and cheese on length way cut baguettes and put under the grill? I really want to try it but not sure if it would just be sloppy and a bit gross.

No but I once had spaghetti tacos in America. 😂

MrsAvocet · 07/08/2023 19:01

Depends.
I'd do one for the family (me, DH and 2 late teen boys) if it was a side with a substantial pasta dish. If it was a light meal like soup I'd do two between the 4 of us.

Findyourneutralspace · 07/08/2023 19:01

Half each but no-one eats the ends in our house

Olika · 07/08/2023 19:03

If it's yummy 1 person. If it's one of those bland ones I got other day then 2.

Hollyppp · 07/08/2023 19:03

1 (greedy me sometimes) or 2 people max

shivawn · 07/08/2023 19:03

One between 2 adults here, normally served as a side with spaghetti and meatballs or cheese-y pasta bake.

ShortColdandGrey · 07/08/2023 19:05

2 adults and a sneaky 6 year old who pinches some.

DominoRules · 07/08/2023 19:05

We’ve just had spag bol for dinner and I did 2 garlic baguettes - I only had one slice so the rest was between DH and 2 teen boys. There’s never leftovers and I reckon they could easily eat more!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/08/2023 19:05

2 adults, 2 adults & 1 small child at a push. I do 2 between my 5 children & it's only occasionally there's a slice or 2 left for me.

SloraceHughorn · 07/08/2023 19:06

Holy moly.

In our house 2 adults and 1(young) child.

DH and I used to eat one between us though so we'll probably have to start cooking two soon.

And we usually have it with pata or lasagna, so it's a real carb fest.

fourlambbhunas · 07/08/2023 19:06

1 baguette hardly does two adults and one toddler on our house. We always end up cooking a second one 🤣

CatsSnore · 07/08/2023 19:07

midnightrecovery · 07/08/2023 19:00

No but I once had spaghetti tacos in America. 😂

Sounds a great double carb 😋😂

PlasticineKing · 07/08/2023 19:07

Just about 2 adults and a 6 year old but she finds dinner time tricky when she’s tired and would prob only have 1/2 pieces. I would try and have the same as always trying to eat a bit less. Realistically I think half per adult though.

Decafflatteplease · 07/08/2023 19:08

Erm weve just had one between 6 of us 🤔 maybe I need to up it to 2 😂

SloraceHughorn · 07/08/2023 19:09

I really fancy some garlic bread now

ApolloandDaphne · 07/08/2023 19:09

We had 2 between 5 adults recently. It seemed enough but we also had big bowls of pasta.

bellac11 · 07/08/2023 19:10

When I ate bread I could easily polish a whole one off, although I never ate the end bits

If I was being polite with someone I would share it

I suppose it depends what else is on the table, if its just meant to be a couple of slices each with other stuff as a mixture you could get away with 2 slices each, that would serve 4 people I think (although unlucky person getting the end pieces).

gincakecomps · 07/08/2023 19:11

2-3 (there's 3 of us but it all goes still if only 2 of us are eating). Alongside a large portion of pasta obviously!

YellowCoatGang · 07/08/2023 19:14

Does your friend mean the pre-made frozen ones though, that you buy from the supermarket? As they are are really quite small.

If you buy one of the long ones from the bread section, and put your own garlic butter on, then you are looking at 2/3 the length of those little ones. Maybe your friend is talking about those.
