Surely the intention of terrorism, as people are calling it here, is to cause confusion and fear through violence? Nothing that the climate protesters do is violent or causes harm. Their intention is to RAISE AWARENESS through civil disobedience.

To call this put this on the same level as the murder of Jo Cox or David Amess is disingenuous to say the least. Greenpeace are an environmental justice organisation informed by science and indisputable evidence, not for personal gain.

Our politicians are corrupt criminals motivated entirely by greed and personal gain.

PowerTulle · 03/08/2023 21:40

I suspect most contemporary activists are now just individuals who get a massive kick out of extreme and anti social behavior. Any cause will do as long as someone provides the superglue, a bit of media coverage and a sandwich after.

I agree. It in no way meets the UK definition of terrorism. That's just hyperbole!

The UK produces a tiny 1% of emissions. They need to target the big boys like China or Russia....

Oh....hang on

China is 39 x bigger than U.K. and produces 28%
uk produces 1% and is 39 x smaller with a population of 6700000 and China has a population of 1,425,626,811

uk is producing far more per person and land mass than the “ big boys”

'We can get to your home. Where your wife sleeps and your children play. We could have set cameras, laid bombs, poisoned the water tank, but because we chose to, we brought in enormous amounts of equipment and just showed you and the world that your home is not safe from us. And the more gullible will think 'oh, how amusing' without thinking for a moment that we're sending a message to your deepest fears'

What's next - gaining entry and dangling banners all over his daughters' school playground?

A little honesty test

You work for coffee shop, drive a branded van and wear a branded uniform delivering corporate lunches and you live local

your boss gives you a new weekly Friday delivery and the business name rings a bell so you google it, this is what comes up:

the protests, which targeted suppliers and customers, included sending fire bombs and hoax bombs and causing criminal damage to people's homes and cars.
One supplier had the grave of his mother dug up and the urn containing her ashes stolen and never returned.

When you go to work tomorrow are you getting in your branded van and driving in to the business car park and walking up to the front door with your delivery?

Paul2023 · 03/08/2023 23:40

Very bad taste. Regardless of who you vote for , a Prime Ministers home should be secure. How useless was security?

The other side to this is that MPs will possibly ,due to security issues, be very hard to see in person. Because of stunts like this.

This will do more harm than good.

So how do we hold these corrupt wankers to account?

I agree.

Why? More likely people who have been signing petitions, voting, getting involved with local green initiatives, writing to their MPs.

They are frustrated because the recommendations scientists are making are being ignored by politicians with massive conflicts of interest. Public figures who we should be able to rely on to have some integrity, who are not being held to account in any other way.

Why are we anccepting that our politicians have such a low standard of behaviour?

Indigotree · 04/08/2023 00:04

Gothambutnotahamster · 03/08/2023 23:43

I agree.

All the activists I know are wonderful human beings, highly educated (most are scientists, researchers, teachers and academics, NGO staff and some journalists, a few psychologists and therapists), some are Christians so partly driven by their religious ethics, all driven by evidence-based research. They make enormous sacrifices because they know it's essential to do everything we can.

REVEALED: Rishi Sunak Received £141,000 from Energy Interests this Year

The headline of that article is misleading - the example they give is a tenuous link to the oil and gas industry;

Baron Michael Farmer, for example, a former Conservative Party Treasurer, donated more than £23,000 to Sunak’s campaign. He is among the world’s most famous metals traders and a founding member of the multi-billion-pound Red Kite metals hedge fund. He also has current shareholdings in energy giants Royal Dutch Shell and BP.

I agree, anyone can wear a hi-viz vest and highlight a problem but the people that I admire are the ones that come up with the solution

There has been extensive and successful research for decades into solutions. Zero Carbon Britain is an example. There's renewable energy, retrofitting insulation (which would hugely reduce energy demand), more sustainable food and farming methods (see reports by Sustain), research into urban development and planning to reduce transport needs, huge strides in environmental architecture and building methods... it's endless...
The only problem is that our politicians have vested interests in keeping fossil fuels on the agenda.

No it isn’t. It’s a conflict of interest. See also.

Did anyone see the programme about heat pumps on the Beeb the other night? Most interesting, putting the cart before the horse springs to mind.

Heat pumps have been around for a very long time.

I wonder how many people’s pensions are being funded by oil companies and the like. Will these protestors give up their pensions?

Terrible idea once again

Yes. More 'woke' overreach from the illiberal left wingers. Likely to win Sunak votes since he is trying to save UK jobs by not wasting our oil reserves rather than importing from elsewhere.
If they can do this to the PM, no one is safe, so they need to get a harsh response from the authorities 'pour decourager les autres'

Gothambutnotahamster · 04/08/2023 01:41

@AIBot & @Indigotree I agree as the ones I've met through friends are exactly as described.

Jujubes5 · 04/08/2023 05:42

If we stop oil we can’t drive cars or heat oil fired homes.
I haven’t heard of people giving up their cars.

FindingMeno · 04/08/2023 05:54

I don't know wtf is wrong with us.
Look around at what is going on globally.
The extinctions, the suffering.
It's beyond me how people can get so outraged at a non violent protest at an empty house.

AnSolas · 04/08/2023 06:18

AIBot · 03/08/2023 23:41

So how do we hold these corrupt wankers to account?

By working in the system where everybody gets to vote and that vote has the same weight for everybody.

And be active writing to your elected reps
If you like one and want that person elected work on the campaign

Better yet stand for office and carrry the public"s votes into the Commons

yogasaurus · 04/08/2023 06:24

This kind of thing turns me off their cause.

And there’s a horrible undertone that he deserves it because he is rich and has plenty other houses.
