@NeverDropYourMooncup

Well said. An excellent post

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 03/08/2023 12:01

My DH often has to run the gauntlet of Greenpeace protesters due to his job (nuclear sector). I find the idea of them targeting our home absolutely terrifying, we'd have to move. To me this crosses the line from protest into terrorism as it's about intimidation rather than inconvenience.

WarmWinterSun · 03/08/2023 12:14

It’s totally wrong for them to have behaved this way. Absolutely not justified or excusable. I hope they are prosecuted.

I worry about climate activists becoming more extreme. They have no boundaries and no respect for the public. Will they be the terrorists or the future?

Gothambutnotahamster · 03/08/2023 12:26

Acheyknees · 03/08/2023 10:27

Completely disagree. If we are to encourage people in to politics, their family homes should not be targeted. No wonder the calibre of our elected representatives has never been so low.

This!

Perfect28 · 03/08/2023 12:31

@WarmWinterSun we have no future

ivykaty44 · 03/08/2023 12:37

so All the talk of targeting the people who make the decision instead of jyst oil protests, was just rubbish

niw the person responsible for granting the oil licences has been targeted- whilst out of the country - no that might frighten the family 🙈

countrygirl99 · 03/08/2023 12:38

@ivykaty44 yep.
If they protested at Westminster people would be moaning about the disruption to ordinary people in London etc.

WarmWinterSun · 03/08/2023 12:39

@Perfect28 I completely disagree with that. Of course we have a future. We need to work urgently to make the future better. But it is precisely this type of extreme thinking that I fear will be used to justify increasingly reckless behaviour which may harm the public and could end up in a new wave of terrorist like activity.

Perfect28 · 03/08/2023 12:43

The point is that urgent work is not being done and we are being led by people who do not care.

WarmWinterSun · 03/08/2023 12:44

I’m afraid it doesn’t justify trespassing and climbing onto the roof of a private family home. The ends do not justify the means.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/08/2023 12:54

Handwoven fabric and using plant dyes, I hope. They wouldn't want to be hypocritical and use anything oil based, would they?

BromCavMum · 03/08/2023 12:58

No. This is wrong. Private homes are not fair game. How would you feel if those you support we're targeted this way?

WarmWinterSun · 03/08/2023 13:01

Most extreme example of this, which is fictional, is Thanos in the Avengers film who removes half of the human population in order to restore the planet for environmental reasons.

It’s a philosophical question but, at the most extreme end of the spectrum he considers that the end justifies the means.

We know morally this is utterly wrong. But it is troubling to see that the new wave of environmental extremists feel they are justified in carrying out acts that are harmful, may cause distress to others, are illegal, etc, and insist that they can be the arbiters of what is morally right because of the importance of their cause. I fundamentally disagree with them.

It is a terrible thing to target a family home and publicise this, and I expect Rishi is worried about the safety of his family’s.

This .
Their actions are disgusting. Children live there aswell not that this should happen to anyone .

User165753 · 03/08/2023 13:03

No, it's not right to target peoples homes

Takeittotheboss · 03/08/2023 13:03

All this people saying how frightening it must be for their family....they weren't there so the girls won't even be told. Constituency addresses of MP are in the public domain already as they are public servants. Police and Security would have been onsite throughout the protest.
As usual in this thread,those on the side of good getting the rough end of the stick whilst the real culprits are "victims ". No wonder the country is sleep-walking into ruin.

User165753 · 03/08/2023 13:05

I hope they get at least five years

Random789 · 03/08/2023 13:05

Agree with other posters that since his family were in California at the time there are no concerns about frightening the children / indtuding on domesticity.

Perhaps if he just had the one home the protest might have seemed frighteningly intimate, but when you have four or five you probs aren't so emotionally invetsted in each one.

Also, I'm pretty certain that Greenpeace will have approached this with all the health & safety protocols and expertise of an upmarket construction firm.

Crap home security though!

OP- it’s on the front page of all the papers and it is highly likely that they will hear about it. It’s not ok

Suffragettes acted in the same way - I suppose you could call it moral terrorism (altho a lot of things the suffragettes did were outright terrorism, including arson attacks and turning letter boxes into bombs). And it lost them a lot of people who might otherwise have supported the cause.

I agree. What a waste of fabric.

Acheyknees · 03/08/2023 13:19

I wish these protest groups would devote their time to actually solving the energy problem. Banging on about the climate emergency - yes I get it. But we only get 8 % of our energy requirements from renewable. So where is there rest coming from? If we don't renew the licences, we import it from elsewhere, so not exactly solving the problem.
Yes Greenpeace, Just stop Oil, there is a problem relying on fossil fuels but how are you actually helping to solve it? Shouting, disruption and publicity stunts aren't solving it. Yes, the government could do more but what are YOU actually doing to solve it?

Barbadossunset · 03/08/2023 13:21

I agree, but no doubt those protestors get an extra thrill at the prospect of frightening wicked Rishi’s children.

The Tories can't even send rapists to prison and you think there should be prison sentences for these people? Skewed priorities.
