What the hell am I going to do ? URGENT

Going abroad tomorrow. Today, I have what feels like the start of a UTI. Namely, peeing a lot & a constant dull urge to pee. No blood/pain/discomfort as yet. Dr did a dip test today and was all clear, so wouldn't prescribe antibiotics. This is how the last UTI started, when the dip test showed nothing then 12 hours later I was calling the out of hours DR with blood in urine and severe discomfort. Fortunately for that occurrence, I managed to get antibiotics.

Ive now potentially got to travel tomorrow with the constant need to pee. How the hell am I going to do that. I will be abroad (Spain) - what if I need antibiotics ? Not so easy to get ?

WHAT TO DO ?

I have debated calling the out of hours DR tonight, exaggerating the symptoms, and getting antibiotics prescribed over the phone. I'm so worried as the last UTI started in this way ie dip was clear but needing to pee a hell of a lot and it turned into a full blown UTI.

Any advice ?

You went to the doctors with this? No wonder the nhs is in crisis

What nonsense. I ended up with sepsis and 10 days intensive care because of an E-coli UTI. The dr gave me a general AB before the cultures were back and it got worse over a weekend.

Most useful thread ever. I didn't even realise you could buy antibiotics without a prescription. I thought they were being really carefully controlled to avoid over-prescribing. Shows what I know!!!

You do get a prescription, but it prescribed by the pharmacist.

If you can ever order AZO pills, get them and keep them around. They can be a lifesaver during a UTI. Ditto cranberry pills.

From my post above. If both have already been mentioned, sorry. I am in a hit and run mode right now.

My friend is a urologist - she says D Mannose from Holland & Barrett is the best and will prob sort you out without needing anti b’s.

My reason for this post is after reading a few replies I feel I need to share my experience.

Before I left for holiday I had a few niggling sensations alerting me to a possible UTI.
I was due to get a flight 2 days later so I did all the usual remedies, drinking loads of water etc & on the day of the flight I was symptom free. We had a brilliant week then suddenly my symptoms returned, this time although still a niggle I knew the feeling. Suddenly I was shivering like I had flu & felt nauseated, then my legs turned blue. My DH recognised I was reslly ill & rushed me to our local hospital A/E department. This saved my life. I was admitted to hospital for 3 days. My minor UTI symptoms treated at home resulted in sepsis. My advice is keep dipstick tests in your medicine cabinet & never ignore symptoms of a uti, always seek medical advice.

What are AZO pills? And

LovelyIssues · 02/08/2023 09:31

Obviously go back and explain this is how it starts. Get the anti biotics & you can buy over the counter cystitis sachets.

Atsocta · 02/08/2023 09:44

Can you see a dr when there?
You can buy antibiotics online, give uti symptoms
they are quick, but won’t be in time for tomorrow I always keep a course spare incase
drink as much water as you can today all day it will reduce even clear it up.

Atsocta · 02/08/2023 09:47

I forgot Also I’ve heard Boots etc do a test and give antibiotics right away
check around … but do drink water it will flush it out.

OhMerseyMe · 03/08/2023 03:47

I am in the U.S. but we have an over the counter medication, Azo Standard, that alleviates all symptoms (constant urge to
urinate and burning sensation). It will not cure your potential UTI, but at least it will eliminate the symptoms. Beware, it turns your urine bright orange, so do not be alarmed.

Good luck - those things are a pain in the arse 🤦‍♀️

It's a pain reliever medicine, OTC, at least here in the US. I have used it and it makes me feel better and calms the spasms that trigger that feeling of needing to go.
