Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Kucinghitam · 29/07/2023 22:48

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Excellent!

Tricyrtis2022 · 01/09/2023 10:19

Nice one!

John Le Carre's home is lovely! I remember hearing his voice quite a few years ago and falling a little in love with him because it was so rich and gentle. He seemed to be a decent person as well so it's good to know that his home so fully represents the him I imagined.

Britinme · 01/09/2023 12:08

That house is gorgeous. Just the 3 million quid to find then...

artant · 01/09/2023 12:46

That’s a lovely house in an amazing setting but I’m not sure I’d actually want to live there. If I find three million quid stuck between the sofa cushions, I reckon I could find something that would suit me better and still have a stash of money to live on. Sadly my sofas are unlikely to yield much more than dust and old tissues.

I have an account access issue; can anyone help please? I'm happily posting here on my laptop. But have just bought a new mobe. Trying to set MN up on that, I seem to have inadvertently set up a new account (maybe cos I have two email accounts?). Although I haven't given my name or a user name or anything on my phone. But I can see 'Account Details' on my phone. Username blank (cos I haven't given one), post history zero. So I'm thinking I will need to delete this corpse of an account before I can get 'this' one working properly. So at the bottom there's this Delete Your Account option. But there's fire and brimstone warnings for doing this, and I'm slightly scared it will mess things up for my proper account. Do you reckon I'm OK to go ahead and delete? None of this is 'on the app', BTW. I'm not an app person. 😀

Are you trying to log in from a mobile browser? I can't see any reason why it would struggle with that. I have multiple emails on my iPhone and didn't have any trouble logging in to MN. Could you try emailing MNHQ?

Britinme · 01/09/2023 15:25

MNHQ were very quick and responsive when I emailed them about an issue. No AI or algorithms!

duc748 · 01/09/2023 15:34

That seemed a bit drastic, but perhaps it's the safest way, thanks. It's not the end of the world if I can't use my mobe; I just don't want the smooth working on my laptop messed up.

duc748 · 01/09/2023 15:58

I've fired off an email. I'm just being cautious, really; I don't want to mess things up. I suppose part of it is, on most talkboards, you are defined by your, unique, username. On MN, where usernames are changed like hats, that can't be so, so you must be defined by the email account you first associate with.

duc748 · 01/09/2023 16:57

But it seems [email protected] is not a kosher email address.

Gonners · 01/09/2023 17:17

Have you tried [email protected] ?

duc748 · 01/09/2023 17:50

Thanks, @Gonners !

duc748 · 01/09/2023 18:45

MN elves are on the case! 😀

Impressive efficiency....

Gonners · 01/09/2023 20:31

Hooray for the elves!

I think many phone apps are a snare and delusion. The only one that I find useful is the local bus company's, which allows me to zone in on the bus stop and find out how late the bus is running (sometimes only to discover 5 minutes later that it has allegedly been and gone - it hasn't, unless it was a stealth bus lurking under a cloak of invisibility, but that's someone at the bus company lying and not the app's fault).

Do Not Get Me Started on the Halifax's banking app, which they insisted would solve a problem they couldn't deal with over the phone (WTAF?) - now deleted.🙄

duc748 · 01/09/2023 23:31

I'm with you on apps, Gonners. "It's easier on the app": in my experience, it often isn't. Plus, it's more people wanting a piece of you. Meanwhile, another convincing win for my team tonight, and we are top of the league! 😀🏉

artant · 02/09/2023 00:11

I don’t use the Mumsnet app but I use a lot of apps on my phone for all sorts of things from banking to Insta to getting directions to stuff like Zoom. Some stuff’s easier on a browser but a lot isn’t, for me at least.

MouseMinge · 02/09/2023 00:30

Same @artant . Banking and cards, Twitter, some shopping apps and TV stuff like Netflix and iPlayer are all much easier via app for me. Sites like this I prefer to use on a browser.

Britinme · 02/09/2023 02:14

I use banking apps on my phone and iPad and some other apps. Generally they work quite well for me.

duc748 · 02/09/2023 18:34

Top job, elves! Logged in and sorted on mobe now.

The Halifax should head-hunt them. Not that they'd be interested.

MavisMcMinty · 03/09/2023 13:24

I’ve just watched 45 minutes of Badger’s solo exploits via his GoPro! The camera was skew-whiff for lots if it, so lots of tree canopy, but most of the time I knew exactly where he was. Unfortunately he met a nice neighbour with her coming-into-season labrador - three times (“Ha ha, he’s got a GoPro on!” was the first thing she said). The last time he met her he followed her home, and I watched her find his (brand new) collar tag and phone macman - I was still in bed at this point but heard the phone ring. He drove up into the village to collect my bad boy.

45 minutes! Until the very last minute he was in the woods, nowhere near the road. I wonder if he’d have gone into the village if he hadn’t met neighbour and her dog? It’s a shame he met her really, but thank goodness it was her and not one of the more judgey ones.

The picture and sound quality are fantastic!

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/09/2023 13:56

What a treat being able to see what he's up to! What was he actually doing in the woods, could you tell?

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/09/2023 14:01

That's so exciting, @MavisMcMinty! Looking forward to hearing more about his outings.

I have a home camera to keep an eye on Kasper. The footage always follows the same pattern. It starts with him skulking back and forth to his food bowl, then he 'kills' a pair of socks and miaows his head off. Finally, he retires to the basket on top of his cat tree with his limbs hanging over the edge because he's grown too big for it (but still favours it over his 38748 other beds).

MavisMcMinty · 03/09/2023 14:02

Just walking, sniffing, peeing (I could HEAR it!) and a couple of longer stops, presumably to shit, although thankfully I couldn’t hear that. Some trotting, not as much as I’d assumed. He actually took the route of one of our customary walks, along bridleways and footpaths, nowhere near the road or houses until the very last minute.

And most importantly, nowhere near angry gun-toting sheep-farming neighbour’s house or fields or woods, which was always my main/only concern about Badger’s solitary walkabouts.
