Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Kucinghitam · 29/07/2023 22:48

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

I hope they've at least got some idea how to proceed Mouse.

MouseMinge · 14/09/2023 23:21

They took twelve biopsies while they were there. They told me that if I haven't heard from them by 26th September to give them a call. They have an MDT on Tuesday where they'll talk about it but probably won't have the results back by then, hence finding out a bit later. There is no follow-up at the moment until they find out what the tumour is and I guess we go from there. They hope I can have a scan here in Worthing which would make my life easier. It costs a lot to get to Bloody Guildford! The tumour is very recent, it certainly wasn't there a couple of months ago when they were doing all the tests in Worthing so I'm not overly worried about it but my hope is that they can remove it so that things can improve.

artant · 15/09/2023 12:23

Fingers crossed for news when you get the results @MouseMinge - I hope they can get rid of the tumour and restore your swallowing abilities to a more normal level.

And I love that house in Leeds! Though I’m not impressed by the upstairs utility room. I get that most washing is upstairs but I’d rather bring it downstairs dry yo stick it in the machine than wash it upstairs and lug heavy wet laundry downstairs to peg it out.

In happier news, another thumping win for my team tonight means we are one win next week away from being top of the league at the end of the regular season. 😁

MouseMinge · 15/09/2023 23:18

Is that a rugby league thing,@duc748 ?

MouseMinge · 15/09/2023 23:38

Go Wigan!

MouseMinge · 15/09/2023 23:38

Heaven's to Betsy, we're nearly at 40 pages again!

duc748 · 16/09/2023 00:29

I have this ritual of having to wait up till after midnight to watch the match highlights on the website, and there were some wonderful tries scored. Sadly, as the BBC relegate The Superleague Show to obscure and varying times, often late at night, few people outside the North get to see them.

I'm enjoying this one - family Christmas angst starting early. Very tolerant OP and a sprinkling of people who seem incapable of RFTT.

Long thread so I only read the OP’s posts, unfortunately she’s only really responding to the negative critical replies she’s getting, when most people are in awe of her tolerance and generosity.

As so often the case, the thread is Exhibit A of the number of people who lack even basic reading comprehension.

And who pile in on page 30 to rant about their misunderstanding, which has been repeatedly clarified by the OP, who often displays quite astonishing patience. One of the many good things about MN is the "see all" button for OP posts.

Yesterday evening Django came in with a starling in his mouth, wings outstretched wider than he is. I wish he wouldn't do this with birds but he is some mad skilled hunter catching a biggish bird like that!

MavisMcMinty · 17/09/2023 22:07

Having read Stephen King’s new novel Holly, having had several months off from my King re-reading marathon (undertaken initially to get over the loss of my Twitter account last November), I bought “Needful Things”.

OMG it’s horrible! I remember giving it to my niece many years ago, saying it was “great”, which is why I had to buy it again. I’ve got about 100 pages left (of nearly 1000!) and because it’s 30 years since I last read it I really have no idea how it ends, although I’m gonna guess badly for my heroes. King seems to hate humanity in this book, maybe he was coming off the drugs’n’drink at the time.

MouseMinge · 17/09/2023 22:38

That's near the top of my list of King books I want to read. There are so many of his books that I haven't read so I have to think about what I need to read first.

MavisMcMinty · 17/09/2023 22:51

I’m so envious of you, Mouse, having all those books still to read. One of my favourites - and unfortunately one of the ones I no longer seem to own - is The Dead Zone, which seemed to be what Donald Trump was using as his election manual in 2016. I also loved Firestarter, another one I can’t find and will have to buy again.

But then I think I’ll have re-read them all!

Oh, no, I gave Misery to someone, will have to buy that again too.

MavisMcMinty · 17/09/2023 22:56

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 17/09/2023 22:43

How interesting, Bint! I gather from that article hieroglyphics were first translated 200 years ago - how clever “we” (humans) are, I often marvel at “our” inventiveness and powers of deduction.

Britinme · 18/09/2023 02:54

I'm listening to Stephen King's "Later" on audiobook in the car and enjoying it.

DeanElderberry · 18/09/2023 08:00

The Kushan script is interesting, but yet again the fact that they needed a bilingual inscription as a clue underlines how hard it is to read anything that 'floats'. Thinking of Quipu, and that prehistoric south west European thing.

Fascinating stuff, @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn and @DeanElderberry! It's quite wonderful all the ways that humans have invented to communicate across space and time.

That quipu is mind boggling!
