I love all cake. There isn’t a cake I don’t like. I’m on keto and not eating cake is killing me. Chocolate, coffee, red velvet, carrot, Victoria sponge, fruit, coconut, lemon drizzle, cup, any, every cake 🥰

Has anyone mentioned ginger cake yet? Banana bread, lemon curd loaf cake ...

loaves & bread, we are talking cake so its fine you can put those banana bread, ginger loaves and lemon curd loaf thingy to one side or on a pedestal and now come and talk favourite cake.

Those are all cakes, not breads.

They are called loafs or breads purely because of the rectangular tin they are baked in. You can put the same batter in a round tin and have it as a circular thinner cake shape if you wanted.

Ooh, Pina Colada cake! With rum. 😋

Anyone who likes fondant fancies should treat themselves to the Betty's of Harrogate ones . Shockingly expensive especially if you're not local and need to pay the postage www.bettys.co.uk/cakes/fondant-fancies

Otherwise, I like most cake unless it's dry, can't stand a dry cake!

their fat rascals are a thing of beauty. and I love how they smile at you toothily as you eat them

CheersToMe · 28/07/2023 16:55

Lemon drizzle
Victoria sponge with jam and fresh cream
Coffee and walnut
Sticky ginger cake
Christmas cake with marzipans and royal icing.

Not keen on buttercream or fondant icing.

tillyandmilly · 28/07/2023 16:55

Burnt basque cheesecake! Absolutely delicious!

OmniPocket · 28/07/2023 16:56

Apple cake is my favourite but I'm also very fond of pear and ginger.

YesLittleElephant · 28/07/2023 15:31

Pear and brown butter

That sounds delicious

GrouchyKiwi · 28/07/2023 16:56

Coffee and walnut. Or my chocolate cake. I make a bloody delicious chocolate cake.

Blanketpolicy · 28/07/2023 16:57

So many to choose from.....I always opt for a well done basic cake and avoid butter cream and icing - my favourite would be an old fashioned tea loaf closely followed by lemon drizzle (no icing just lots of tangy lemon juice soaked in).... although I also wouldn't say no to a slice of madeira cake......

decaffonlypls · 28/07/2023 16:58

Lemon drizzle

paradoxicalfrog · 28/07/2023 16:58

Seedy cake (caraway seeds)
Lemon and poppy seed
Chocolate, orange drizzle
Aunt Annie's chocolate and coconut cake (Farmhouse Kitchen II, 1978)

Hedonism · 28/07/2023 16:58

All the cake. They are all my favourites, as long as they are homemade ones.

Also banana bread and loaf cakes are absolutely cake.

continentallentil · 28/07/2023 17:00

1 Victoria sponge - proper jam in the middle, icing sugar on top, cream on the SIDE. Buttercream is of the devil. You either have to make this or buy it at a fete.

2 Full on Ginger cake with lemon icing

3 Really sharp lemon drizzle cake

Reserves:

Chocolate malt cake. Chocolate cake is strangely disappointing, the malt makes the difference.

A good old moist carrot cake with a cream cheese icing

Tesco/Sainsbury’s walnut cake. Weirdly delish. Cheaper in Tesco.

I like a piece of fruit cake and a mince pie (LAttice top to avoid pasty overkill) at Christmas but otherwise think dried fruit is best left in the past

I have thought about this..

Dombasle · 28/07/2023 17:00

Pistachio cake.

ManyATrueWord · 28/07/2023 17:01

Cherry cake. Has to be made with semolina for the correct texture.

I made keto brownies once....found the recipe somewhere on the internet...but it was butter, eggs, brown "sugar" sweetener, ground almonds and cocoa powder. I swirled cream cheese through the batter. Once cooked I served with creme fraiche and a few berries. It was quite a good cake substitute

I have made keto mug cake which just didn’t hit the spot but I didn’t put cream cheese in and it was really dry. I’ll try that thanks 👍

Kimfluencer · 28/07/2023 17:05

Victoria sponge, but there has to be a generous amount of fresh cream or you can stick it.

Closely followed by American birthday cake. Very light, fluffy sponge with loads of frosting <licks lips>

Fruit cake is great, too, though Grin.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 28/07/2023 17:06

Sooo many.

I love prinsesstårta, sachertore, (homemade) black forest, a good NY-style cheesecake, German style "cheesecake", upside down apricot cake and definitely apple crumble cake!

And pretty much anything lemon or lime flavoured.

But some of my favourites are pies. Apricot pie, cherry pie, apple pie and pastiera napoletana (<= Easter, so so lovely!), red currant meringue cake, rhubarb pie... and now I`m definitely hungry 😂

RabbitsRock · 28/07/2023 17:10

Not sure I can choose one. Love Black Forest gateau if it’s made well - my Uncle was a chef & made an absolutely amazing one for a family wedding. We had some for breakfast! Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is right up there too.

minipie · 28/07/2023 17:11

Only like really moist cakes

Orange and almond
Lemon drizzle if soaked right through
Carrot cake
Apple cake that is 50% apple
Double ginger cake (thank you Nigel Slater)

That’s about it. Other cakes I can happily leave.

Although I am intrigued by the pear and brown butter…
