What is it?

Mine is fruit cake, you can keep your chocolate cakes and cupcakes with mountains of butter cream - I love a fruit cake with a cuppa

Coffee and Walnut
Fruit cake with marzipan
Black Forest (but only if it's drenched in booze and cherries)

All other cake is revolting. And couldn't tell you the last time I had any cake at all. Maybe 3 or 4 years ago?

Most cakes (and cream ones especially) are claggy nastiness.

I love carrot cake and anything with thick icing but I feel like any plain cake that is homemade is nicer than anything heavily iced shop bought.

Parsleymint · 28/07/2023 16:15

Orange cake
Plum bread
Any cake with ground almond, I love a heavy cake.
No buttercream thank you.

I have a glut of raspberries in the garden so made a raspberry cake. 3 egg sponge with 50/50 almond and self raising flour.
Put half the mix in a loaf tin, add a layer of raspberries, second layer of sponge mix and sprinkle with sugar. Doesn't look pretty but it's delicious.

That Swedish cake that looks like it's topped in a layer of smashed up Daim.
Never actually tried it, but I just KNOW, I can feel it in my bones (and tummy) that it is one of my most loved cakes.

WhateverMate · 28/07/2023 16:19

I'm not over keen on cake really, but quite like a bit of lemon drizzle.

caringcarer · 28/07/2023 16:20

Homemade Victoria Sandwich or if shop bought a Pink Fondant Fancy. I very rarely eat cake though maybe 2 or 3 little slices a year.

ivykaty44 · 28/07/2023 16:21

Has anyone mentioned ginger cake yet? Banana bread, lemon curd loaf cake ...

loaves & bread, we are talking cake so its fine you can put those banana bread, ginger loaves and lemon curd loaf thingy to one side or on a pedestal and now come and talk favourite cake.

Lemon pound cake soaked with so, so much lemon syrup and sprinkled with pistachios.

Or a nice french fancy, those orange ones Mr Kipling do at Halloween are one of my biggest weaknesses.

DaisyThistle · 28/07/2023 16:23

Coffee and walnut
Spiced dutch apple with cream cheese and crumble topping
Also love orange curd and lavender madeira

Bookish88 · 28/07/2023 16:23

Carrot cake
Lemon drizzle a close second.

Eloweeese · 28/07/2023 16:23

When is a sweet baked confection not a cake? Is it to do with shape? Battenberg is unquestionably a cake and it's rectangular. Another one I like when in the mood.

OzziePopPop · 28/07/2023 16:30

Ginger cake, very sticky and aged a day or two to mature. No icing or a glacé icing drizzle. Or carrot cake with a cream cheese buttercream. I want cake now!

AtleastitsnotMonday · 28/07/2023 16:39

In total honesty I'm a savoury girl, so I'd say my homemade Thai fish cakes.
If I have to go sweet then a Belgian bun or a gingerbread man.

Wheresmyrobe · 28/07/2023 16:41

Unpopular I know, but birthday strawberry jam and loads of fondant icing. I have a real sweet tooth.

Wheresmyrobe · 28/07/2023 16:41

Birthday cake**

Ladyoftheknight · 28/07/2023 16:44

Classic birthday cakes with jam and 'cream' and a thick layer of set fondant.
Or a light carrot cake with raisins and cinnamon and thick cream cheese frosting. All with a strong coffee to offset the sweetness!

Anything Mr Kipling is a daily favourite though, for ease

tt9 · 28/07/2023 16:44

any cake available for me to eat is my favourite cake. I don't believe in cake discrimination and love them all equally. obviously with an obligatory cup of caffeinated beverage

Hoppinggreen · 28/07/2023 16:45

I love coffee cake but all too often people put nuts in and ruin it.
Portuguese orange cake is amazing too

Groutyonehereagain · 28/07/2023 16:46

Chocolate cheesecake.

Comedycook · 28/07/2023 16:46

I really like birthday cake...so vanilla sponge filled with jam and cream and topped with fondant icing.

Otherwise

Carrot cake
Lemon drizzle
Chocolate but only if it's the one I make...mines the best in my humble opinion 😂

OldTinHat · 28/07/2023 16:48

Victoria sponge with fresh cream and strawberry jam all day long!

Although I could be tempted by a fresh cream apple turnover, mind...

Defiantlynot41 · 28/07/2023 16:50

Anyone who likes fondant fancies should treat themselves to the Betty's of Harrogate ones . Shockingly expensive especially if you're not local and need to pay the postage www.bettys.co.uk/cakes/fondant-fancies

Otherwise, I like most cake unless it's dry, can't stand a dry cake!

Crikeyalmightey · 28/07/2023 16:50

I made a nice blueberry cake recently, that went down well.
Going to try making a Guinness cake next, complete with fluffy white top, a la Nigella.
Favourite is my MIL's fruitcake tho.
