What have you brought recently?

As with the username I'm a nosey parker and I always find myself wondering what people have in their shopping bags.

What has everybody brought recently?

I went shopping as it was payday and I came to an absolute blank. Literally all I brought was some baby grows for my daughter.

Need to go find my daughter's first pair of shoes in Clarks today ❤️

All the 'kind' handwringers calling out those who have indicated it's 'bought' not 'brought' as pendants and 'sad'. No I had no idea what the OP meant.

Brought and bought mean two totally different things. Totally different. It's not like 'their' it should be 'they're' or 'draw' when it should be 'drawer' which sound exactly the same with different spellings.

It's just totally wrong and it's not 'kind' to ignore it.

The sanctimonious posters telling off the "pedants" (not that the difference between "brought" and "bought" is exactly pedantry imo) are every bit as smug as they imagine the pedants to be, and equally predictable. I'm quite sure they wait to pounce on a thread such as this.

It's primary school English, not the subtleties of the subjunctive.

JaneJeffer · 30/07/2023 09:46

Never heard anybody say drawer in a way that sounds different to draw.
You have to have! Never watch any American tv shows?

JaneJeffer · 30/07/2023 09:48

@LaPerduta what about the sanctimonious posters telling off the posters who are telling off the pedants? Where will the smuggery end?

Haha! 😂

I have brought neverending smuggery to this thread.

I don't think it is 'bitchy', @Tiredmummaoftwo , and I'm not sure why you needed to comment.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie , @JaneJeffer , the word drawer sounds different - draw-er not draw. It's more noticeable in a rhotic accent.

Why did you need to comment?

JaneJeffer · 30/07/2023 10:09

I was trying to find an example of an Irish person saying drawer and I found this instead Grin

PedantScorner · 30/07/2023 10:13

@Tiredmummaoftwo , because I disagreed that it was 'bitchy'.

That is hilarious. I particularly like how a "draw-wer" slides into or out of a "disc".

Well I disagree that you disagree with my disagreement. This could get boring.

I shall not argue with a fool... I'll let you fill in the gaps.

PedantScorner · 30/07/2023 10:19

@Tiredmummaoftwo , read your own words.

Nope.

Wow!

Dinner out x2 this week (not a usual occurrence!)
Birthday presents & some bits in town for dd2's Eras tour outfit
Eras tour tickets 2 weeks ago
Some beads for friendship bracelets, have been browsing for more though, they won't go far between 3 of us!

Need to buy a 70th present for my dad but not entirely sure what atm. I'm thinking some nice cheeses & crackers from the cheese-monger on the market, but then that means I need space to refrigerate until I see him & currently my fridge is very full! Must google to see if there's somewhere that will deliver a cheeseboard maybe 🤔

JaneJeffer · 30/07/2023 10:49

I completely forgot what this thread was about until you posted there @lucysmam Grin

So anyway all I have bought this month is some secondhand books. I have things in carts/baskets all over the place but trying to resist the checkout!

Eanair23 · 30/07/2023 11:36

A lovely thread being detailed over a single typo in the OP. 😤
Can we just talk about purchases? Please?

I just bought a new Kindle Paperwhite, and I'm reading my new book, The Name of the Rose. I can't see the Sean Connery movie available anywhere, but I hear him so much in the words of Br. William.
I'm off to get some groceries shortly - I'm doing the LC bootcamp, and weigh in is tomorrow.
Also bought new school jumper for DS this week. Rest of uniform still not available.

Cancel the cheque!

Can we please get back to just tempting me with things I never knew existed, like the vampire garlic crusher, which is now on my Amazon wishlist.

I have just bought a Parkrun identity bracelet, as I hope by throwing a small amount of dosh at it, it will encourage me to keep going, having invested in it!

I recently bought a Le Creuset teapot from an outlet in Gretna. They've packed it up with the wrong lid, then insisted on collecting the whole thing by courier, before sending out a new one. It still isn't here, and will be three weeks since I bought a tea pot I don't actually have in a couple of days! I need to be with my teapot!

A sofa!
After two disastrous trips to DFS accompanied by DC, DH & I went on our own today at lunchtime & ordered a lovely blue velvet corner sofa to replace our current too small sofa & uncomfortable chairs.
