@icebearforpresident Flentl et veritas 😀 I have one too from the live podcast at Hammersmith

icebearforpresident · 28/07/2023 15:51

@Scylla i can’t find a gif of The Signal so just imagine I’m doing it!

I never managed to get to any of the live shows when they were here, they were always the best episodes though.

ChittyBangabang · 28/07/2023 16:29

I think we need a collective afternoon tea now Smile

This is my favourite mug. It's the perfect size too.

This is my favourite one but mine’s in blue. Gorgeous.

@SisterMaryLoquacious
Am I the only person who thinks that it's positively unnatural to ask for mug recommendations and not specify whether you want bone china/porcelain or stoneware? They fill such different niches. It's like asking someone to recommend a garment for your bottom half and not saying whether you want trousers or a skirt.

very true. For me, tea really needs to be in china, but coffee can be more flexible. And I reserve the right to change my mind depending on the mug in question!

I got our new mugs from https://www.polkadotlane.co.uk, they have some lovely stuff.

Ooh I love this stuff. I have a couple of jugs for gravy / custard, and they’re the juggiest jugs I’ve ever had.

Far too small but the Nutcracker is one of my favourite ballets so I love this:

If anyone is a lover of rescue dogs, please read the story of these beautiful brave souls who always put a smile on my face.

I LOVE the Nutcracker one, but yes, too small.

RavenT · 28/07/2023 18:48

I have 4 dunoon bute mugs which I adore. They're fine bone China and were on offer from the Temptation Gifts website.

I also always have a couple of Denby mugs on the go. I love their glazes and they are so nice to hold (but tea loses heat quicker in these)

For me the choice of mug depends on the season, my mood and the time of day. 😁

Pennyplant19 · 28/07/2023 19:14

Me too! but we’re on a mug embargo at the moment 😱😂

So are we, but I'm off to 'accidentally' drop a couple of husbands silly ones 😂

Cosmo China do handpainted mugs that are dishwasher safe:

https://www.cosmochina.co.uk/artists

I have some going back years - bone china is actually quite sturdy

I love Wormshuffled's T2 cup - beautiful!

Me too. I love Cosmo China. I recently got a great King Charles Coronation tea bag dish and I only use mugs from there

WalnutBlue · 28/07/2023 20:48

Some beautiful mugs on here.

I have way too many but this thread is making me reconsider lol.

Davros - Oh yes, I loved their coronation stuff, especially the ones that looked like they were from the 17th century.

Chittybangabang - I love the idea of afternoon tea!

This thread has made me wonder if there is a mug index, like the lipstick index whereby lipstick sells even in a recession because it is an affordable treat. There are lots of different types of mug here and we all have our preferences in terms of size, what they're made of, and design but what they all have in common is that they make us feel better when we use them.

Tkmaxx have some nice bits, nice and cheap too.

Did you know that Josie Firmin, one of the founders of cosmo china, is the daughter of Peter Firmin, who, with Oliver Postgate, created Bagpuss, Noggin the Nog, The Clangers, Ivor the Engine etc?

We had a commission from Charlotte Firmin, her sister, one of their artists - it’s lovely. And one of their other sisters, Emily, is the Emily of Bagpuss fame.

Makes me love it even more ❤️❤️

I have this mug https://www.glassette.com/products/101113-jade-pink-hug-mug and a similar one, just different colours. I adore them. They are the perfect size, weight, handle etc.

They were £30 each which is obviously a massive splurge. I have decided Nice Mugs are my Thing, as I have pretty much everything else I could possibly want.

I'd go to TKMaxx/Homesense for a rootle, they have beautiful random cups/mugs and you can test the weight/feel of the handle/width of the rim (all important factors for that perfect cup of tea, right?!)
I have a preferred cup for Yorkshire tea, one for mint tea, another for tea when I'm gardening, tea in the morning vs the evening...it's a science.

What is this rootle? Is it like a poodle? Early morning and thinking I've found the best word ever.

Talipesmum I did! At one point they had some Peter Firmin prints and postcards in the shop. They are a very talented family. I love the way Cosmo do commissions. A friend often buys a personalised plate as a wedding present. Lovely!
