I have constipation as a complication of endometriosis.

Im on lactulose and senna. Which hasn't made a lot of difference.

Any tried and tested methods i could try? Id be so grateful 🙏

Lots and lots of water and oranges/satsumas. I've tried everything over the years (constipation is a side effect of medicine I take) and when it boils down to it making sure there is lots of water that can be drawn into my poo to keep it soft and mobile is the key, then lots of fibre from the oranges. Not sure why it has to be oranges but they seem to be the one thing that works for me.

Followed by a couple of cups of proper coffee...

Oat milk, oatibix
Floradix magnesium every eve
A step stool to put your feet on

Prune juice helped me. Warm bath also

ifonly4 · 27/07/2023 15:12

If I eat strawberries or kiwis a couple of days in a row I always notice change. Made a veggie bolognese (with mince quorn) last week and added aubergine and peppers as they needed using. That definitely softened things up. Also, if you have filter coffee, have a strong cup. All bran a few days in a row, should help as well.

Black coffee

FloweryName · 27/07/2023 15:13

Coffee and a cigarette works for me.

LittleFifteen · 27/07/2023 15:13

cola

PurpleFar · 27/07/2023 15:14

Prune juice. (Make sure it's nice and cold - it goes down better if you're not a fan of the taste). It's my go to when my chronic constipation meds stop working and my body needs a break.

Clawdy · 27/07/2023 15:15

Yes, prunes or prune juice can help. I've actually started quite liking the taste of prunes!

CatMattress · 27/07/2023 15:15

Strong coffee, lots of water, lots of fats. Do NOT up your fibre until things are resolved or you'll make things worse.

And oranges work because of the sugar content.
Lots of sugar and things with sweetener in will probably help too.

carkerpartridge · 27/07/2023 15:17

kiwi fruit

GoldenKiwi · 27/07/2023 15:18

My digestive system can be sluggish due to an underactive thyroid.

Ground flaxseed helps - for breakfast I sometimes have overnight oats with two tablespoons of flaxseed, and raspberries which are quite high in fibre.

I also switched to Wholemeal bread instead of white, and wholewheat pasta.

Harrythehappypig · 27/07/2023 15:19

Movecol. Just get some asap.

Harrythehappypig · 27/07/2023 15:20

I don’t understand lactulose, have never heard of it working for anyone and as I understand it, senna tyoe stuff is an irritant so not great.

BreehyHinnyBrinnyHoohyHah · 27/07/2023 15:21

Drinking a pint of water as soon as I wake up usually does the trick for me.

JustFrustrated · 27/07/2023 15:21

Fuck all the natural stuff in this situation, that leaves you no ability to control it.

Microlax Enema 5mlx4 - Fast Treatment of Constipation Or Conditions Requiring Relief of Emptying amzn.eu/d/7997wiY

This, entirely this. I was given it after surgery when I was on codeine for a week (totally normal on the continent apparently). Works in 15 minutes and it doesn't hurt to pass the stool either.

Also, once youre empty....youre empty.

Then you can bring in regulation aids. Right now, you just gotta go.

jay55 · 27/07/2023 15:21

Glycerin suppository and a cup of coffee.

Teaandbiscuits60 · 27/07/2023 15:22

im constipated from a health condition and I’ve discovered that raising my feet up ( I stick them on the bottom rung of my zimmer frame) works a treat! It works every time.

TwilightSkies · 27/07/2023 15:22

Try walking as well, a bit of movement can help

WedTheBed · 27/07/2023 15:25

Exercise, a walk or jog. Plenty of water.

Weetabix… I had terrible constipation in pregnancy and the only thing that would shift it was weetabix. I ended up having weetabix everyday for breakfast for the rest of the pregnancy, then everyday for my second and didn’t get constipated again! I learnt my lesson I think 😂

also, a toddler stool/step to put your feet on.. take your book or phone to the loo and just sit. Don’t push as you’ll risk piles, but just sit and relax your muscles. Let the muscles do their own work. I find that helps a lot to go, and also helps making it less painful.

LaDamaDeElche · 27/07/2023 15:25

There's a massage you can do - it's on YouTube. Was the only thing that worked for me when I had really bad constipation years ago. When I was pregnant and had mild constipation and lactulose worked for me.

mushroomushroom · 27/07/2023 15:26

When constipation is bad, I use movicol to get things going again, then, I have a teaspoon of ground linseeds in warm water every evening and that keeps me going regularly. If you're having very severe pain and you can poo, I would go with movicol (although when my pain is that bad I can't go at all anyway) (I also have endometriosis, also on bowels)

WildAbandon · 27/07/2023 15:26

Second the recommendation for a toilet step stool for a better pooing position. I find porridge for breakfast keeps me regular and a cup of coffee always hurries things along. Constipation is usually due to dehydration so drink more water.

Needlepointy · 27/07/2023 15:26

Raisins. Works for me. Or a very strong coffee.
