I have constipation as a complication of endometriosis.

Im on lactulose and senna. Which hasn't made a lot of difference.

Any tried and tested methods i could try? Id be so grateful 🙏

Squatting to poo instead of sitting with your feet flat on the ground can help. Many cultures have completely different loo designs to accommodate this, I first encountered in the middle east.

I find dates, sultanas, nuts, wholemeal / seeded bread are helpful.

Have breakfast.

Watching (for tips, not a poo troll!)
I find water, strong coffee & a step stool help but even then ... (therefore watching for tips)

Coffee with cows milk.
Fruit.
Mints.
And cigarettes if you smoke.

Then lots of exercise.

I’d personally go for a long walk, then come back and have your coffee and fruit etc and then do some more exercises at home.

If you have a dog you’ll notice that they’ll go for a poo when they’re out for a walk and it’s because exercise stimulates you to need a poo.

Matronic6 · 27/07/2023 17:27

Strong coffee and lots of water.

Lilacshade · 27/07/2023 17:30

I take a drug which causes constipation as a side effect. I was on lactulose for years but eventually managed with diet.
I eat oats for breakfast with chia seeds, tons of fruit and veg but the crucial thing is prunes, preferably prune juice. If I go on holiday I take a bag of prunes with me.
For some reason most supermarkets seem to have stopped stocking prune juice. Does anyone know where I can get it?

I’ve recently started a thread about the same thing. Don’t know how to link but it’s still around. I got lots of advice. I have literally thrown everything at the problem and what has finally produced a result was two days of 2 movicol sachets, glycerin suppositories, upping water intake, and eventually microlax mini enema which I bought in a box of 8 from local pharmacy. I honestly thought nothing was ever going to get things moving and I was feeling so bunged up after over 2 weeks of nothing. There’s lots of suggestions on my thread that might help. Nothing ‘natural’ has any effect for me - prunes, prune juice, apricots, bran flakes, lemon water etc. Hope you get some relief soon.

Sugarplumfury · 27/07/2023 17:39

I forgot to say my thread is in the general health section and called ‘has anyone used glycerine suppositories’

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 27/07/2023 17:42

Big mac and a strawberry milkshake never let's me down......I call it a McPoo.

ivykaty44 · 27/07/2023 17:42

when my friend was on lactolous and Senna the only thing that made them go was prune juice, it worked wonders

ivykaty44 · 27/07/2023 17:44

Asda was the place we were getting prune juice from, holland and barrel and Sainsbury

Lots and lots of water and oranges/satsumas. I've tried everything over the years (constipation is a side effect of medicine I take) and when it boils down to it making sure there is lots of water that can be drawn into my poo to keep it soft and mobile is the key, then lots of fibre from the oranges. Not sure why it has to be oranges but they seem to be the one thing that works for me.

I posted the other day that satsumas are the things that keep me going 😂

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/07/2023 17:47

A macdonalds has that effect on me!

TheChosenTwo · 27/07/2023 15:32

I had to use a suppository after I had my dd and didn’t poo for a month! It was so quick to work 😳
hope you get some relief soon, it’s just such a miserable heavy feeling. Sending sympathy!

Me too! I was getting so worked up and stressed by it. That solved it in half an hour. It was like pushing another baby out

JeandeServiette · 27/07/2023 17:50

Figs.

Peachyscream · 27/07/2023 17:51

FYBOGEL is your friend here. Works for me everytime. Has never caused painful cramps either. Recently forced my daughter to drink it (she hates any type of medicinal drink) and now I've noticed hee drinking it a few times a week.

Hungryfrogs23 · 27/07/2023 17:53

Pears in juice works a treat. Nature's finest do them in a plastic tub. Eat that and it solves the problem! Also apple juice, prunes (but they are rank!) and exercise all help.

Summerscomin · 27/07/2023 18:07

Also following for tips and hope you get some relief soon OP.
Medication has slowed my bowel down completely and I can't 'go' without some sort of help- lactulose or bisacodyl. Neither are working at the moment and I'm due to go on holiday soon, I'm getting desperate. I've got a plan of movicol sachets/a complete diet overhaul for when I get home but I need to sort this before I leave.
Those who use glycerine suppositories, I gather they work quickly but after the initial clear out, is that it? Sometimes with other constipation remedies, you need to stay close to the loo for the rest of the day as it's all a bit unpredictable!

endofthelinefinally · 27/07/2023 18:11

Prunes and porridge for breakfast. Lactulose every evening. I hate the taste of it, but I am on medication that causes all sorts of problems and I would rather put up with the medicine than the pain and problems I would have without it.
Vegetables or salad every day and very little meat or eggs. Lots of fluid. Fruit.

This sounds silly but try humming or mooing whilst sat on the toilet with a step stool. It really works the hmmmming helps to open up the anal sphincter muscle

BustyBarbara · 27/07/2023 18:42

Dried apricots

sugarsherbet · 27/07/2023 18:45

A couple of strong coffees.

I was about to say put the radio / music on and sing. That helped me once. Think the singing helped me relax, although I am an awful singer.

Beebumble2 · 27/07/2023 18:50

Bran in orange juice, first thing in the morning. Also lots of water during the day.

Haruka · 27/07/2023 19:17

Not the healthiest way, but a shitload of sweeteners should do the trick. Overdose on After Eight or Pepsi Max and watch it volcano out of you.
