This has made me cry, I loved her music, have read her book and was very aware of how much trauma she had endured in her life. Desperately sad news

I nearly started a thread when I heard the news this evening, but then I decided not to as I knew someone would say something like this 🙄

It's human nature to want to share shocking news.

dogsweetdog · 26/07/2023 20:24

Favourite Sinead collaboration ❤️

inisfree · 26/07/2023 20:25

So fucking devastated by this news ❤️‍🩹

spiderlight · 26/07/2023 20:25

I'm so sad about this. She was a troubled soul and the loss of her son last year was devastating. I hope she's at peace now.

If anyone is interested there is a podcast called “You’re Wrong About”. They did an episode about Sinead probably two months ago (Sinead wasn’t on it just the host Sara Marshall and a guest).

It was very interesting, they talked all about her upbringing and rise to fame and how unfairly she was treated over the whole ripping up a photo of the Pope on SNL incident.

They played her new music, and I learned a lot about her I didn’t know. She was amazing but sadly, will probably be remembered for the wrong reasons.

There is also a great 6music podcast which I hope they reinstate on BBC Sounds again 'The first time with Sinead O'Connor' and it is truly brilliant.

Really upsetting news

Cantthinkof1rightnow · 26/07/2023 20:34

I feel for the 3 children she's left behind.

I hope they receive counselling and don't end up feeling that they weren't enough for her after she lost her other child last year.

That tweet reads as though she can't live without him... it must be hard to hear as a child because it reads as though the 3 surviving dc are not enough for their mum to keep going. That may not have been her intention/ what she meant, but I can understand a child reading that into it.

Such a shame.

Thanks Sinead. Sure you were too pure for this kip anyway.🥹💔

Love this...too good for this kip...well said @TooBigForMyBoots

Also love Troy, fave song of Sinead's.

I also want to remember her as that breath of fresh air on TOTP. Shaved head, DMs, fierce and soft at the same time. For me This is the Last Day of Our Acquaintance is the best example. Almost whispering to start, almost shouting at the end.

I'm both sorry for her and glad for the world that she was so angry. Anger was the correct response.

As A Mother I cannot imagine the heartache this poor lady had to endure at the loss of her son . Sinead was a strong woman who had the courage to speak up . Sinead I sincerely hope that you and your son are together . Sleep well.X

Cantthinkof1rightnow · 26/07/2023 20:42

Amazing talent, though. RIP.

Perhaps they are shocked and/or saddened and wish to discuss this with others but there's nobody else to talk to at home. You can't exactly talk to a four year old about this, can you?

Besides which, people have posted some of her most beautiful works in this thread. They deserve to be heard.

Poor woman. I hope she finds eternal peace.

WelshPoppies · 26/07/2023 20:46

This is so sad. Her live performance of Danny Boy was the most perfect.

FonzTherapy · 26/07/2023 20:51

When did she convert to Islam?
Says in the article in the Irish times. I don’t remember much about this.

SunscreenCentral · 26/07/2023 20:54

Fiercely strong, brave, talented and beautiful. A heart too big, too wild. She is free now.

Codladh sámh astór

rumred · 26/07/2023 20:55

Author Marian Keyes wrote, "Oh lord, this is heartbreaking. How she suffered. Poor, poor Sinead. Rest in peace, you amazing, brave, beautiful, unique wonder."

Violetparis · 26/07/2023 20:56

Such sad news, have fond memories of me and my friend as students singing our hearts out to Sinead's songs especially 'This is the Last Day of our Aquaintance'. RIP

TeaMistress · 26/07/2023 20:57

So very saddened to hear of her passing. I think she has been a very troubled lady for a long time and I pray that she is now at peace and her torment is at an end. Reunited with her beloved son. Goodnight Sinead. Sleep in peace now. God bless her.

Turtlebed · 26/07/2023 21:00

So sad!
