Since when did this become a thing?

I’ve recently joined a local gym having spent a lot of my adult life trying to avoid the place. Don’t have much social media so didn’t realise the new “trend” is to wear scrunch bum shorts and sports bras

Honestly so many females wearing this in my gym. I felt like the odd one out wearing a black tshirt and some old black leggings.

Ive always done running so in okay shape but I felt out of place in what I was wearing having just started. Maybe I just need to pay less attention to others 😂

Why's that her problem? She's wearing something she feels good in. If other people don't like it, they could just not look.

For me they don't make me uncomfortable, they just look ridiculous in them. Everything is on show. They would be as well coming out in a g string.

Because young people these days are instagram twats not there for fitness but there to pose.

This. Lots of youngsters are there to pose for selfies. It fascinates me how they never get truly fit.

Is there a little bit of jealousy here that these women are so confident in themselves they'll wear something like this while you lot are trudging around in baggy t shirts and leggings? They're at the gym to work out. They don't need to hide their bodies if they don't want to. Do you judge men wearing tight shorts as well?

I have no skin in this game, I don't go to the gym and i wouldn't wear these shorts but envy is a bad, bad look.

One of the main reasons i don't go to the gym is fear that someone is judging what i look like. It doesn't make it ok to do that just because the woman in question is young and fit (i am neither).

Do you judge men wearing tight shorts as well?

Honestly, yes, if they wore thin Lycra going fully up their bum cheeks with the added pucker detail. I’m pretty relaxed actually, but in the words of Phoebe ‘My Eyes!’

Yah why not? Where does it end? Why is it all about me me me? How about we we take it a step further. Who’s stopping us going naked. What about men showcasing what they got on offer.
Where’s the dignity and respect for people around you?

CornedBeef451 · 21/07/2023 06:41

I always think the scrunched bum leggings look like they'd give you thrush.

It can't be good to have material touching your arsehole as you sweat and the material moves around as you bend and stretch.

How do they cope with the wedgie feeling?

NotQuiteUsual · 21/07/2023 06:41

Only the teens who sit at the equipment and chat rather than work out wear that stuff at mine. Otherwise it's a mix and there's no judgement. Tbh I'd rather see teens wearing weird gym clothes chatting quietly at the gym surrounded by good influences than them at McDonald's acting up anyday of the week. So they definitely don't bother me!

itme · 21/07/2023 04:25

Loads wearing them at my gym too. I’m not a prude at all but they make me feel a bit uncomfortable - I don’t want to see anyone’s bum in that much detail apart from my partner’s. And I’m a big old lesbian so you might imagine that I’d be in women’s arse piercing heaven, but I’m not! It’s the scrunch but that does it - I’m not bothered about people wearing tight shorts and leggings, but something about these is so sexualised.

Yes, it’s different to tight clothing, you don’t normally see the inside shape of people’s bum cheeks - these are like a monkey butt.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 21/07/2023 06:46

(Speaking from experience) People who have worked hard in the gym to get their desired physique tend to want to show that off a bit more. I know I did when I was in great shape. I used to be huge so it was a major moment for me as I never thought I'd be able to wear a two piece. Not bum shorts mind you 🤣 now 37 weeks pregnant and that's a distant memory hahaha!

cushioncovers · 21/07/2023 06:47

Oh god they're awful looking things. Why would anyone want to wear something that looks like a puckered arsehole.

WillowtreeHouse · 21/07/2023 06:49

There's an assumption that people who don't like this look are jealous and while that may be the case for some, it's certainly not for everyone. I'm proud of the progress that I've made at the gym, I've worked hard and I'm pleased with the results. But I did it for me. I don't feel the need to have everyone else see how well I've done by making sure everything is on show. So many people seem to need the validation from others. Keep your monkey butt to yourself mate. 🐒

ThePoshUns · 21/07/2023 06:52

Those shorts are awful but I'm still amazed that young women aspire to have big bottoms when I've spent a lifetime trying to make mine smaller!

Because men showcasing what they have on show has other connotations.

Misspinkdiditinthelibrary · 21/07/2023 06:53

We used to call (very) tight shorts like this "coochie-cutters".

Surely they can't be hygienic, because they don't allow a flow of air around your "bits" ? Looks like a recipe for thrush to me.🙄

Stickortwister · 21/07/2023 06:57

I'm obviously in the minority but think they can look great. I was behind a woman in a class wearing some and her arse looked magnificent... It made me work harder when the squats started.
I'm more of a sweaty Betty walking cliche but don't have a problem with them.

Flippertyfeckerty · 21/07/2023 06:58

Ok, I’m going to say it and then run & hide with my hard hat on…..
I really don’t get the juxtaposition of women shouting loudly “don’t sexualise/ objectify me” and then dressing in not very much/provocatively🤷🏼‍♀️. I mean, dress how you want but don’t complain about the reactions you get to it when you know that’ll be the end result!

Elephantsdontlikechocolate · 21/07/2023 06:58

They are just a pair of slightly sexy shorts.
Judging women is an ugly puckered arse look.

it’s not the tight shorts. I wear tight shorts. It’s the puckered arse look I find odd but I accept I’m probably too old to be trendy! 😁

MrsJBaptiste · 21/07/2023 06:59

I'm really surprised at people LOLing at these leggings, they've been around for ages and look great on the girls I see in them.

I go to JD Gym and every other 18-30 year old is in these leggings and matching bra tops. They look amazing and if I looked like them, I'd be in those outfits too!

JD is that kind of gym though, there is obviously a range of people who go but 75% are fit, toned and look good although don't seem to break a sweat lifting weights like I do 🥵

Groutyonehereagain · 20/07/2023 23:04

At the car park for our local park, a young woman was bending forward into her car, seeing to her baby. She had flesh coloured scrunch bum leggings on. I was completely sure she was naked from the waist down 😱. Itbwasn’t until I was almost breathing on her that I realised what she was wearing. I’ll put it out there now and say, it was not a good look.

I thought a woman was naked the other day as I drove past her. I actually went round the round about and back up to double check lol. Nude coloured tight fitting top and these scrunch bum leggings. Scrunch boob top maybe! I then noticed the gym across the road.

I’m not a prude at all but

😂😂😂😂

I really don’t think I’m a prude for not especially wanting to see the outline of someone’s vulva and bum crack. I think that’s a pretty reasonable thought, not a pearl clutching one. Would you want to see a man’s cock and balls tightly outlined at the gym? Because that’s the same thing. Young people have always worn revealing clothing and when I’m out in the evening I see it, think it generally looks a bit tacky, but think “well, they’ve got the body for it so they might as well enjoy it while it lasts”, but this trend tips over into uncomfortable territory for a lot of people.

Do you know what? My DH has an admin woman who wears these, he runs the business and feels uncomfortable saying it's not appropriate. What do you think he should do?

I don’t think it’s jealousy because most of the women I see wearing them have big wobbly arses, not something to envy.
It’s just the latest fashion which most people follow when they are young.
Anyone old enough to remember puffball skirts?

LlynTegid · 21/07/2023 07:17

Remember that style went out of fashion in the UK in about 2008. They look disgusting on many people but that is their choice, not the only example of lack of any style.

Instagram as noted has an impact. Wear what you like OP.
