Since when did this become a thing?

I’ve recently joined a local gym having spent a lot of my adult life trying to avoid the place. Don’t have much social media so didn’t realise the new “trend” is to wear scrunch bum shorts and sports bras

Honestly so many females wearing this in my gym. I felt like the odd one out wearing a black tshirt and some old black leggings.

Ive always done running so in okay shape but I felt out of place in what I was wearing having just started. Maybe I just need to pay less attention to others 😂

You don't need to go to a gym to see these in my town. Younger women are wearing them to go shopping. Usually the full length version to be fair but often in salmon pink. 🫣

Twyford · 20/07/2023 23:39

Good grief, those shorts are hideous. Why do people do that to themselves?

I see people coming out of the gym wearing them all the time too oo. I am also a leggings and tee shirt person (in fact I shudder now at the old battered tee shirts I used to wear!)

latetothefisting · 20/07/2023 23:46

I'm still in leggings and baggy t! I suppose a lot of women at my gym do wear skimpier clothes but tbh I don't pay much attention - the only time I've really noticed is a few times when they've worn skin colour leggings which causes a double take because it honestly looks like they've got nothing on at first glance!

I also find the people who wear full on hoodies to the gym bizarre - I'm sweating profusely in my t-shirt, no idea how they don't overheat!

goshgollydarnit · 20/07/2023 23:49

I find it pretty grim tbh, a) I don't want to see that much of anyone unless I'm married to them and b) I think of all that skin and sweat touching the machines and don't want to go on those machines, it seems really rude to me to rub your naked sweaty body all over stuff other people have to touch. I wear moisture-wicking top and cropped leggings (skin-tight so it's not like I'm judging anyone for being 'immodest') and they keep me cool and my sweat politely contained!

Showdogworkingdog · 20/07/2023 23:58

I’ve become an activewear cliche. I don’t wear anything fitted into my arse crack though, nobody wants to see that.

I’m a bit yoga obsessed, I go six times a week plus I go to other classes too, I walk the dog a couple of miles in a morning and I wfh so I’m done with wearing jeans and having waistbands digging into me, I find my stretchy clothes are soft and comfortable. But yes, I’ve become a cliche. Yesterday morning I went to get a blood test, I was wearing one of my usual pairs of gym leggings and top, didn’t think about it. The nurse asked me if I’d been to a class, or if I was on my way to one. I explained I was going to yoga later but that’s kind of me anyway and she sniffed and said the problem with clothes like that is that you can’t tell when you’re gaining weight like you can when you wear jeans. CF.

I think I’m maybe just more surprised at the figure hugging & lack of clothing compared to when I was last in the gym years ago.

Those shorts are nasty. What ever happened to dignity?

Radiodread · 20/07/2023 23:14

They are hideous! Yuck. I’m not for modesty but these look like you’re hiding a Cornish pasty in your arse crack.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Someoneonlyyouknow · 21/07/2023 00:11

Gosh those shorts are hideous. I live in the north and don't think they have reached us yet, although the very-clingy-show-everything or shorter-than-your-bum-cheeks ones are common.

I try to remind myself that women judging other women for what they wear is not an attractive look either

CockSpadget · 21/07/2023 00:20

I think it’s good that women have the confidence to wear them. They feel good in them, so that’s all that matters really.

Notcontent · 21/07/2023 00:21

I haven’t seen those at the gym I go to, but I have seen them in the street. I am all for people wearing what they want to and what makes them feel good, but agree these are really ugly and not at all flattering….

AnnaNims · 21/07/2023 00:26

Aaargh. They’re offensively hideous.

My gym is, I’m pleased to say, a sea of Sweaty Betty power leggings.

At the car park for our local park, a young woman was bending forward into her car, seeing to her baby. She had flesh coloured scrunch bum leggings on. I was completely sure she was naked from the waist down 😱. Itbwasn’t until I was almost breathing on her that I realised what she was wearing. I’ll put it out there now and say, it was not a good look.

Ha yes. I saw someone with flesh coured "scrunch bum" leggings on walking towards a gym. She did have the figure for them, but I still did a double take at what I thought was a half naked person!

echt · 21/07/2023 00:31

I've pointed this out on another thread but I notice the photos on the shorts ad don't show the full rear view, i.e the radiating lines of the scrunch, all in a circle, that look like a gigantic arsehole.

Nanaof1 · 21/07/2023 00:59

Oh my! Those shorts and leggings are hideous!

I would make people fall over from laughter if my flat bum was in a pair of those.

It has to feel like a constant wedgie and makes me wonder what it looks like in the front.

Wrong thread?!

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 21/07/2023 02:32

There is nothing wrong with them. I don't wear them but I wear pants and a sports bra.
I don't think judging women is a nice thing.

WetBandits · 21/07/2023 02:39

Just go to the gym, do your workout, mind your own business and don’t worry about what other people are wearing. Tends to yield much better results 👍🏼 can’t say I’ve ever noticed what anyone else is wearing in the gym.

Ha, I'll join the club!

I recently walked past a young woman (late teens/early twenties) who was wearing flesh coloured scrunch bum leggings with a matching crop top. Her figure was amazing and she clearly felt confident and good in what she was wearing so I felt bad for judging... but I did silently judge in a "oh my goodness there's nothing left to the imagination" manner and suddenly felt rather old...!

LadyJ2023 · 21/07/2023 02:59

I dont go to the gym and have noticed they seem to be the in thing and not flattering either
