Since when did this become a thing?

I’ve recently joined a local gym having spent a lot of my adult life trying to avoid the place. Don’t have much social media so didn’t realise the new “trend” is to wear scrunch bum shorts and sports bras

Honestly so many females wearing this in my gym. I felt like the odd one out wearing a black tshirt and some old black leggings.

Ive always done running so in okay shape but I felt out of place in what I was wearing having just started. Maybe I just need to pay less attention to others 😂

@Helen483 you'd have to be stunningly observant not to notice these things. They look bizarre and we are primed to notice things that are out if the ordinary, however busy we are.

What are 'scrunch bum shorts'?

I'm taking a wild stab at them being the skintight shorts, the same style as yoga pants, but women have decided to pull up on the waistline until the shorts are riding up their ass crack. These are also the same women that get angry when you look at the body part(s) they are so flagrantly trying to show everyone.

Nope. That style's sole purpose is to be noticed. I can't help but think that the women who wear that crap would be furious if no one noticed or cared about how "great" their ass looks in those shorts.

They have an added ‘puckering’ feature that sort of go up the arse crack and point towards the presumed arsehole.

They aer porn shorts realy, aren't they (let alo e uncomfortable/pretty unhygienic as you are supposed to wear cotton for gyno health!) - don't see men's fashion going that way, emphasise your penis type shorts- so much for equality, it's not women who designed these, obvs.

Good on them for feeling comfortable enough and confident enough in their own skin to to wear them.
I work in a gym and see the filthy, judgemental looks the young women get from from predominantly 40+ women. Sad really.

Oh yes, we’re just evil, women over 40. Really, why haven’t we just given up and died instead of getting I the way all the time? 🤦‍♀️

They don't. There's ruching on the back seam, which leaves extra fabric to spread over the buttocks while pulling close down the centre. It exaggerates the shape of the bum, giving a fairly anatomical impression - but is not actually in the bum, iyswim.

Looking forward to the inevitable progression towards the front seam? Me, neither!

CatAndHisKit · 23/07/2023 02:07

Sad really
No it's these pants that are very 'sad'. you notice filthy looks from older women (yeah cos they don't want every detail of someone's bum - men or women - in front of the faces on nearby gym equipment, only of course men's bums are covered up thank God) but don't notice pervy looks from the men? 🙄

LoisLane66 · 23/07/2023 02:17

Having watched lots of 'shorts' on YouTube, I'm wondering where all the huge female gym butts have come from. Most of them look like they're split with a cheese-wire.
Butts were never that size until very recent years.

Fraaahnces · 23/07/2023 02:18

I accidentally bought myself scrunch bum shorts. They were to wear under a skirt for work. (It gets very hot where I live and didn’t want to risk flashing my beige Nanna Knickers if I had to climb onto a trolley to resus anyone.) I haven’t attempted a g-bunger since carrying twins and I don’t want one now! Soooo uncomfortable! (I have since discovered swear-wicking jockeyshorts. Who even am I? Where is the glamour?????)

I tend to just mind my own business. I do however frequently attend with scrunch bum shorts up my arse because I have a fantastic bum and I’ve put a lot of hard work into having a nice body after years of being a fat whale 🤪

♥️

@CatAndHisKit, are there no cyclists where you live? 😂

I was a fitness instructor 2 years ago, girls/women didn’t tend to wear it in my class but on the gym floor it was the main style with the younger crowd. A lot of it is to do with social media but also fitness clothes by big named brands produce this type of clothing.

wear what you feel comfortable in, on some days mine was this type of clothing and other days tracksuit bottoms and a baggy tea shirt!

I never had the scrunch bum ones tho!

Wear what you are comfortable in - it’s only going to get all sweaty anyway

Coming soon to a gym near you

JudgeAnderson · 23/07/2023 10:59

I think the whole "why are you even looking, how dare you look" thing is a bit daft. People have eyes in their heads and they do form opinions on what they see, so if someone looks like they've got an extra, larger, puckered bumhole on the go then you're only pretending not to see it really.

LolaSmiles · 23/07/2023 11:29

Agree with this.
I highly doubt they mind people looking if the opinions were positive or people were checking out their bum, but as soon as someone says it's a silly trend and looks ridiculous then it's all fake shock and why are you looking?

Scrunch bum legging/shorts sexualise women.
Why on Earth do they wear them?
Women complain that they don't want to be sexualised.

And most women that wear them have seriously wibbly bums anyway.

Absolutely this! Just like lips that are so inflated by botox they can hardly speak or "contouring" make up that makes all young women look like they are ready to join a circus... I am obviously too old and not PC enough, or, as my DD likes to remind me daily "way too judgemental" but I really want to weep at my memories of burning bras and 70s feminist struggles when so many young women who weren't even born then now voluntarily make themselves look like sex dolls...

GoosieLucy · 23/07/2023 12:50

@WeveLostSightOfWhatANormalHoodieSizeIs just to clarify- I’m 44 myself. I just tend to not get offended by younger women in tight clothing.
@CatAndHisKit I spend 10 hours in the gym, 5 days a week and have not noticed men giving ‘pervy’ looks. Maybe because contrary to what most people seem to believe on this thread; most people are at the gym to work hard and get fitter so oblivious to what other people are wearing. The looks and shakes of the head most definitely come from older women a majority of the time. And maybe if they weren’t so insecure themselves then they wouldn’t be feeling the need to judge the women who feel comfortable enough to to show off their figures.

JudgeAnderson · 23/07/2023 12:53

Put it this way, I don't think it's a coincidence that this particular clothing item is fashionable given the huge preponderance of anal sex in straight pornography.
