Since when did this become a thing?

I’ve recently joined a local gym having spent a lot of my adult life trying to avoid the place. Don’t have much social media so didn’t realise the new “trend” is to wear scrunch bum shorts and sports bras

Honestly so many females wearing this in my gym. I felt like the odd one out wearing a black tshirt and some old black leggings.

Ive always done running so in okay shape but I felt out of place in what I was wearing having just started. Maybe I just need to pay less attention to others 😂

As a pp observed, all of that puckering makes the wearer's rear look like a giant asshole. It's tacky.

And most people don't have a rump worth accentuating; quite the opposite.

They don't need your approval.

ClaudiaWankleman · 21/07/2023 15:49

You might not think their bum is worth accentuating, but fortunately it's got fuck all to do with you, and everything to do with what the bum's owner wants to do with it.

Right; if the bum owner wants to look like a fool in public, more power to him or her.

Fashion/style/clothing choice DO reflect on the wearer. For pretty much all of human history, clothing has been more than a way to cover bare skin, it sends a message and says something about the mentality of the person inside the garment. You can't negate that with "it's got fuck all to do with you."

Clothing is symbolic. Personally I wouldn't care to trumpet that "my asshole is the most interesting part of me!" but others' mileage apparently varies.

And yet you have a lot of interest in their assholes. So much to say about them.

They don't need your approval.

egowise · 21/07/2023 16:20

Females? Female what?

Do you mean women?

why do you interpret it as 'the most interesting part of me'

gonetogreece · 21/07/2023 16:23

Of course people can look at a girls bum in the gym and decide she looks cheap/tacky whatever other words you want to throw around. Just like the girl in the shorts can look back at you and come to the conclusion you are judgmental/bitchy/gossips who should perhaps stop looking at HER!!! bum.

AdoraBell · 21/07/2023 16:25

Haven’t seen it in the gym we use, but it’s a small private gym run my a former bodybuilder and only about 10 or 15 female members. One is 81.

My friend calls them 'look at me don't dare look at me but look at me' leggings.

And yep, the same women will take a photo to.publicly internet shame some hapless bloke who looks at their bum for a millisecond.

Hell, I'm as straight as they come and even I find myself looking.

MentholLoad · 21/07/2023 16:40

Paranoid, made up bollocks.

ALongHardWinter · 21/07/2023 17:18

I'm not a gym user, but from what I've heard and read lately, gym outfits seem to have become very sexualised. For women, anyway. I agree, those shorts are not a good look.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 21/07/2023 17:40

I'm on holiday and a woman was wearing a pair of "scrunch bum" bikini bottoms. Unfortunately they were much too loose so it had the effect of a roman blind.

Mind you, at least her arse was covered, unlike most. I've seen more than my share of arse cheeks this last fortnight.

DrSbaitso · 21/07/2023 17:45

There is nothing new about revealing, sexy exercise clothes.

And this is one of the best things I've ever seen.

Because that’s the highlighted part of the outfit?

This thread is painfully misogynistic.

If you don't like them, don't wear them. Simple. No need to shame women over them.

I know right and MN people like yp harp on about their supposed feminist views. Feeling s bit trad wife women should be covered and in the kitchen bs.

Gingerboy22 · 21/07/2023 17:57

Catspyjamas17 · 21/07/2023 09:39

You can say that about 99% of all clothing.

And your problem with that is...?

Did I say I had a problem with that? I don't think I said that?

Keykat · 21/07/2023 17:58

There are a lot of exhibitionists about though, even if the majority just want to exercise and get out of there asap.

I really just cannot bear all the palaver that goes with a gym. OK I know I can ignore it, but it's impossible for me not to want to slap some of them. Sorry.

I am not fat, but not scrunchy bum shorts material either, not that I would want to be. I began to feel awful at the gym and miserable and oh well, just middle aged and past it really.

So I gave up. I am so much happier now with my step stool, a rowing machine that I share with DP, a couple of cans of beans for the bingo wings, and walking. Feel great and my self consciousness is no longer an issue.

DrSbaitso · 21/07/2023 18:15

Well, there'll be exhibitionists everywhere. At least in the gym you can focus on counting your reps. As I said earlier, I've personally never seen any of these gym posers that are supposedly everywhere, and I've been in a lot of gyms, from cheapy places to very upmarket.

Most judgmental people on this thread are the people scolding others for being judgemental 😂

Skeldale · 20/07/2023 23:01

You mean these? Yeah all the range with the younger girls at my gym too.

They look horribly uncomfortable, surely it’s like having a permanent wedgie?!
