Wife of Huw Edwards names him as presenter.

So there is no criminal offence. The person supposedly affected has said that there is no case to answer. The police are taking no action. A man has basically been trashed all over the media for something in his personal life. He is now in hospital. Great! That sounds really proportionate. Is there some rule somewhere that people who read the news must be held to a higher standard than everyone else??

I agree with this.

I agree. Leave the poor man alone.

N0ëlle · 12/07/2023 18:14

If they're paid 650k of licence paying viewers' money, I think they should be held to high standards. And not sexting teenagers is not a particularly high standard.

garlictwist · 12/07/2023 18:17

I've just read the news story - so there is no crime? And he hasn't been convicted of anything? Why name him then? If he's innocent his name will be mud forever which is the whole point of anonymity.

OhmygodDont · 12/07/2023 18:21

Does something have to be a crime to find them or their actions gross?

Are all cheating husbands fabulous because it’s not a crime? Are men who pay sex workers great because ultimately it’s not a crime?

you can find someone terrible without them being a criminal. Also it’s not just about the pictures now is it. There’s the abusive texts, the breaking lockdown now too. All stuff we hate other people for.

Loveatortie · 12/07/2023 18:06

Would have never have thought it would be him.

Agreed

supersonicginandtonic · 12/07/2023 18:24

Whatever he has done it is absolutely disgusting people are making light of mental health issues

N0ëlle · 12/07/2023 18:25

Some people have a very low bar to refer to him as ''the poor man''.

It's not that hard to not sext an 18 year old.

You think a 61 year old respected public figure paying teenagers for sexually explicit pictures is acceptable?

kerstina · 12/07/2023 18:27

I am shocked at some of this vitriol aimed at Hugh Edwards saying that he has played the mental health card. You have no idea 😡
We do not know the truth but the Parents of a drug addict ,the BBC ,the police , every single news agency bullied this man into the ground .oh and everyone on the internet too. I could see this coming when I read he had suffered with depression . I hope he will be ok.

meddysam · 12/07/2023 18:27

How did some MNS know it was him days ago?!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 12/07/2023 18:28

Oh goody yet another fucking thread

You need to have a word with his missus about that 🤣

Munchies123 · 12/07/2023 18:31

Genuine question, why the support for Huw Edwards and not Philip Schofield? His liason wasn't illegal either (not particularly a fan, just curious)

N0ëlle · 12/07/2023 18:31

@meddysam reading comments under youtube videos, people were saying ''huw could it be?'' and somebody else said the bbc don't want him anyway (he'd been offered redundancy

tigger1001 · 12/07/2023 18:32

I think the whole thing has shone a light in all that is wrong with social media today. Posters online naming anyone they think it could be. And now that Edwards has been named, there will still be people who say stuff like "no smoke without fire" re the other people named online.

There was a real reason as to why bbc didn't name him. And now the police are saying they have no evidence of any crime being committed.

This whole sorry mess has the potential to ruin lots of lives.

lemmein · 12/07/2023 18:33

His wife also said he was only aware of allegations made against him last Thursday - which doesn't tally with what the young parents AND the BBC have said 🙄

Chickenkeev · 12/07/2023 18:33

Can we please stop using the phrase 'the mental health card'! Poor mental health is an actual thing, it could be an excuse here, idk. But mental health, or lack thereof, is not something to be minimised or laughed about. As someone who has been hospitalized for poor mental health, that phrase really annoys me.

N0ëlle · 12/07/2023 18:33

good question @Munchies123 I was listening to the bbc psychologist whose name eludes me now, but he said that wealthy people are used to getting everything they desire and they lose that ablity to identify that line, no, this desire, this could end everything. And he added that ''madness is drawn to power'' but I think vulnerability is drawn to people who abuse their power.

*young man's parents...

N0ëlle · 12/07/2023 18:36

he is using the status of victim to distance accusers though. Classic drama triangle switcharoo. He was the persecutor but now he's made the public the persecutors and placed himself literally in a victim position. Classic move. Subconscious sometimes but it works, it avoids accountability.

Phillip Schofield did it too with the 'do you want me to kill myself?!' line 🙄

The arrogance of these men is seriously breathtaking.

N0ëlle · 12/07/2023 18:39

@Chickenkeev were you hospitalised just in time to avoid taking accountability for some bad behaviour or crime or mistake?

If not, then don't identify with a wealthy man who was sexting 18 year olds.
