BBC Presenter and yet more allegations

1000 replies

friendlycat · 11/07/2023 23:28

It would appear that the front page of tomorrow’s The Sun has further allegations about messages with a new 17 year old. Creepy hearts etc

Scrolling through Sky news and seeing front pages of the papers. This appears bottom right on The Sun front page.

Yes, yes to this. There was a strong whiff of homophobia about the Schofield thing too. Someone up-thread called it 'depravity'.
Maybe one of the reasons the George Osborne thing hasn't got as much traction is because he's heterosexual.

I disagree. The voices saying it's immoral are because of these men cheating on their wives, lying to them and possibly deceiving them for years.

pickledandpuzzled · 12/07/2023 10:25

Nope. Same story with female YP, equal outrage.

If there were any reduction in outrage I'd view it as lack of concern for young women, who are considered to be available for the use of older men- fair game.

Do you not remember 9/11?

I do. You think that was planned to distract attention from a Tory scandal too? After all, the timing was VERY CONVENIENT.

It’s nothing to do with homophobia! We don’t even know the sex of the teenagers involved. I would say it’s entirely irrelevant.

The fact is teenagers appear to have been harmed by this presenter. Anyone exploiting a teenager of either sex for any reason IS depraved.

ConstanceWorry · 12/07/2023 10:27

Whether he's done anything illegal or not, his behaviour is diabolical. Living a double life, using his money and power, while pretending to be a moral, good Christian.

What a joke. I doubt he will ever work for the BBC again.

Of course they are going up blow up buildings killing thousands to deflect from a Tory scandal in the shires 🙄

IAmSalmaFuckingHayek · 12/07/2023 10:27

Has it been confirmed that the young people involved are male?

I feel exactly the same about it whether they are male or female. A much older man getting his rocks off to people young enough to be his grandchildren crosses a line for me.

I feel the same about Brigitte Macron, who met Macron when he was a pupil in school.

It’s predatory. A huge imbalance of power.

AbsoIutelyLovely · 12/07/2023 10:28

monsteramunch · 11/07/2023 23:52

They haven't been confirmed to be girls. And reports earlier in the reporting of the first case definitely the young person in question was male, but have since been changed to gender neutral language. They are almost certainly males.

They’re definitely males. There have been countless slip ups from interviewees

lifeturnsonadime · 12/07/2023 10:28

Crikey I have a 17 year old.

I can't believe that people think that this man's actions are OK.

They are not.

The lengths people will go to to condone when men act badly is astonishing.

ItsMyAeroplane · 12/07/2023 01:56

I don’t care who it is, but it’s not fucking ok to groom/approach/ pay young people to take and send explicit photos to another person.

I don’t care if it’s not illegal, it is immoral.

I don’t care if he’s famous, or not. MEN need to be called out on their shit and the world needs to know who they really are.

The more men publicly humiliated, and losing their jobs over exploiting young people, the better. Hopefully others will check themselves.

Exactly 🙌🏼

How can it be homophobia if nobody knows the sex of the young people involved??

Tink51971 · 12/07/2023 10:29

I am embarrassed to admit just read the sun as it has supposedly posted the conversation between the 17 year old and bbc presenter to see how bad it is. The sun posted 2 lots of messages. I know we can’t condone what this presenter has done, and I did think the messages would be horrific and outing, but there are 3 hearts and 2 kisses. To me it’s just a general conversation and the young person even says that they have the opportunity to take part in a bbc school news report and asks the presenter what to do. It has make me think of how I send emojis to people as, a red heart can be used to express warmth, happiness and gratitude, it does not mean you want to jump in someone’s pants. Now if it was a pink beating heart that means something totally different, also with the x it can be used in a warm, non romantic way. Do we know this person is not either a relative or know a family member of said presenter.

I just think rightly or wrongly The sun have it in for the BBC and are intent on bringing it down, no matter what, and are looking for blood.

i have had enough of papers/news channels and will stay off them from now on, though PM questions at lunch will be interesting.

What on earth are you talking about?

At the centre of this storm are CHILDREN.

In the case of the first alleged victim a very vulnerable minor. How this gets exposed is totally irrelevant. The exposure started with two very worried parents, who were not listened to by the bbc.

You seem unable to grasp the gravity of the situation. This is not about the press or the Sun at the centre of this is a very vulnerable teenager, and now many more that have potentially been harmed and damaged by a very powerful man that is paid by you and I.

I am just appalled that my license fee money has been spent on the abuse of minors seemingly. I am sickened actually.

The Sun put the vulnerable adult at the centre of a media feeding frenzy without their consent and against their wishes. Based on the say so if people they are estranged from.

If you care for this person why do you not respect their wishes. Why do you want to pile pressure on a vulnerable person when they are clear they don’t want to be involved in this circus.

There have been plenty of slip ups saying they’re female too.
Which slip ups are reliable?

Translucentwaters · 12/07/2023 10:32

Some have very deep pockets to deflect the SM outrage, that’s all I’m saying, because the idea that this a non story/homophobia/ perfectly fine is for the birds. This could and probably should take down the bbc

We should not be paying for the abuse of teenagers. He had a pay rise top. God only knows how he used that.

@WinniFinniHadog

Speak for yourself!

I would be extremely concerned about older adults contacting my children when under 18 !
Male or female - it does not matter

I’m well aware that certain politicians are not being given the same treatment as the BBC employee. It doesn’t make it right
Under 18s are all vulnerable to abuse of power and it it’s illegal as far as I know despite consent being 16.

There is a very interesting article from last year, a Telegraph Journo's first article was printed. It was crtisicising 'an area' of the UK's approach to Covid and extended lockdowns.

The article was not read, just re-tweeted with a scathing comment to online followers of this person. The young female journalist, proud of her first artilce, then had threats of rape and assault in her inbox. An abuse of power? Surley not...

Plbrookes · 12/07/2023 10:25

No, but it was identified as a "good day to bury bad news" and an example of the manipulation behind how and when news stories are rolled out.

If you think certain sections of the press and the government don't work together at times when it is benefial to one or the other or both, and if you think there is no agenda behind the timing of this, you are naive.

JudgeRudy · 12/07/2023 10:37

Are you serious? You're faith in humanity rests on the shoulders of a TV presenter who presumably you don't know?

That's why I said if it's 18+ then that's a private adult issue.

If it comes to light it's under 18 and a criminal act, absolutely serious.

Am absolutely shocked if it is who I think it is! My faith in humanity has been destroyed…he really was my hero and so lovely.

Really?

Kimten · 12/07/2023 10:39

The presenter's name is all over Twitter now.
More so for anyone located outside of the UK.
