Duck, absolutely love it but when I buy a whole one there's hardly anything on the plate, I order a qtr from the Chinese and I can nearly feed the family with it.

I'm interested in how someone makes their own spaghetti hoops, I'm thinking that's an all day job.

MrsJackRackham · 11/07/2023 11:48

Life's too short to bread chicken. All that gunk under your nails, flour everyone. No thanks. Supermarkets to a fine job of it.

hexsnidgett · 11/07/2023 11:49

Lasagne is totally worth it, I have never had a bought one that was as good as mine.
I made crumpets once, really not worth it.

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMeAgain · 11/07/2023 11:51

Puff pastry.

bexyo · 11/07/2023 11:52

Risotto

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 11/07/2023 11:53

Soufflé, a faff to make and probably the worst way to serve an egg. Once a decade I make one and remember why I don't generally do it.

CC4712 · 11/07/2023 11:53

Pomegranate

If you break it apart in a bowl of water, the seeds sink and pith floats- but you still need to pick off every, single, bit of pith anyway!

Beezknees · 11/07/2023 11:54

Sunday roast. I just can't be arsed. I like to go out for a nice carvery but it's not worth making myself.

Choccyp1g · 11/07/2023 11:54

Pomegranates.

Frith2013 · 11/07/2023 11:56

Making cinnamon buns from scratch. All that kneading, rising, proving. I've made them into a New Year's Eve tradition so I only have to endure it once a year.

I was just away to say crab. I saw James Martin on TV yesterday faffing about with a crab I just couldn't be arsed.

Dontlistitonfacebook · 11/07/2023 11:58

Definitely puff pastry.

And hot cross buns. So much effort, such a disappointment.

Mrsjayy · 11/07/2023 11:59

pictoosh · 11/07/2023 11:26

Making your own lasagne. So labour intensive.

I've stopped making it at home .all the cooking then layering and then the dishes URGH!

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 11/07/2023 12:02

Mayonnaise. But it is worth making hollandaise.
Fresh pasta.

Tlolljs · 11/07/2023 12:03

Where can you buy a decent fish pie from please?
All the ones I’ve had are too runny and not enough fish.

Colliewobblerr23 · 11/07/2023 12:05

Homemade linguine pasta and risotto.

beguilingeyes · 11/07/2023 12:06

Oh god yes, risotto. I love it, but the stirring. I have looked at buying one of those pans with a stirring arm.
Fresh pasta, sourdough bread. My husband bought me a sourdough course... so much faff.

Colliewobblerr23 · 11/07/2023 12:06

I haven't used my pasta maker gadget since attempting homemade linguine

Whichwhatnow · 11/07/2023 12:07

Pomegranate (sooo much effort when you can get pots of the seeds!)
Pastry from scratch (vs ready rolled or - at a push- those bags of pastry mix that just need water added)
Fresh whole pineapple (vs fresh already sliced)
White sauce, peppercorn sauce etc (I wouldn't use the powder sachet mixes but will get the fresh pots from the freezer section)

Whichwhatnow · 11/07/2023 12:10

Oh yeah and pasta and bread! I used to make my own sourdough and had a pasta maker thingy but you can buy such nice ready made stuff now I just don't see the point!

Catspyjamas17 · 11/07/2023 12:10

With you on crab, and also lobster, though I love them dressed. Any food you have to work at really when you have paid for it to be cooked for you. I can't be arsed with shelling prawns either.

Years ago I went to this restaurant (Mongolian BBQ possibly) where you had to queue up and choose all the ingredients then had to stir fry the bloody food yourself. What a scam - it cost the same or more than other restaurants with table service. I was just glad they didn't ask us to wash up.

listsandbudgets · 11/07/2023 12:11

Moussaka .. I seemed to use every pan I had, it took forever and there was a phenomenal amount of washing up..

and.at the end of it I reckoned I'd have been better off woth a ready meal.

Fiddie · 11/07/2023 12:12

One of my secret superhero skills is shelling a crab. I can get every single bit out in a very quick time. I grew up in the uk but on a diet of seafood.

Lasagne is easy too as long as the bolognese bit is done in a slow cooker.

Kippers are too faffy though

Home made spaghetti hoops Grin

Mrsjayy · 11/07/2023 12:12

Oh we nearly went into a (maybe ) Korean bbq place in London until we realised it was a make your own. No thanks.

Catspyjamas17 · 11/07/2023 12:13

With you on preparing your own artichokes as well. Did it once, never again. I do love the flavour of them though - if someone else is doing the preparation.

Jerusalem artichokes on the other hand are the most pointless foods full stop. They don't taste that nice/of that much and give me terrible wind.
