I'll kick it off with:-

Putting your bra on after a shower - I always put it on back to front and twist it round the right way. I need to apply WD40 to my back and chest as it just won't twist!!

Getting the damned duvet into the damned duvet cover!! Makes me 🤬 every time!!

How about you??

The most important one I can actually think of for the past 18 months, trying to get a GP appointment!!!

Spanielsarepainless · 10/07/2023 08:15

Tryingto contact HMRC, DWP, DVLA etc by 'phone. Mostly still WFH instead of getting their sun-kissed, hammock-patterned backsides into the office and putting their glasses of Pimms down for long enough to help some poor sod. In fact the entire Civil Service should not be allowed to WFH. It's disgraceful.

Changing the account my card machine pays out into. I’ve given up and bought one with another company. Small business owners - avoid SumUp like the plague!

Baneofmyexistence · 10/07/2023 08:29

Printing anything. Printers are bloody melodramatic arseholes.

Getting ANYTHING my disabled DD needs. Even a repeat prescription of a bog standard medication she has been on for 4 years is a battle.

To keep flying insects out, try a diffuser with citronella oil. They bumble in and then leave quite quickly as they don’t like the smell. Safer than the citronella candles, and works better.

Getting any of my collection of tin openers to do their job. Ring pull tins of beans are my go-to now, but with the CoL as it is I would like to open a regular tin without the kitchen resembling a murder scene. Anyone else find tin openers just aren't cutting it!!!

Yes. Just buy a cheap one from wilko. Does the job. The pricy ones never work for me.

Folding a fitted sheet. My friend can do it perfectly into a tight rectangle, my version looks like a big jumble.

I had to watch two YouTube videos explaining how to do this but I can now. Life-changing.

Bollindger · 10/07/2023 09:41

Not read the whole thread.
Duvet cheat.
Grab 2 hair bands, with your duvet cover the right way round put the duvet up inside , grab from the outside and wrap the band around so the duvet is stuck in the corner. Repeat on the other side.
Put the ends at the top of the bed an just pull the cover over the duvet.
If you don't remove the hair bands your duvet will not move while you sleep.

RampantIvy · 10/07/2023 09:42

I'm off to practice folding the fitted sheets I washed yesterday.

Eating out as a Coeliac.

Eating out as a coeliac in the UK is easier than it was but a complete minefield. "Of course you can eat the chips, madam."
"Are they fried in the same oil as batter coated food?"
"Yes."
Aaargh!

nopuppiesallowed · 10/07/2023 09:56

For the insomniacs.....
Google 'The Honest Guys Guised Meditation' on your phone, get into bed and play it. The first time I tried it, it didn't work, so I played it again (back to back). Woke up the next morning...

I really don't get this. I put my bra on every morning after a shower and just put it on the normal way - i.e. put it on the right way and fasten the back.

This is how I did it, until a frozen shoulder skuppered me! As I am fat and need massive RSJ's to support the boobs, bras don't spin if I do it up at the front so my family and friends have had to be doing it for me for 2 years now..... Slowly getting the required rotation back now. Physio says you are likely to be hyper mobile to be able to do it up at the back!

emmypa · 10/07/2023 10:21

Folding fitted sheets properly, I just can't get it right, despite all the tips I've read. Also, storing sheets (and towels )in a way that is organized. They are either falling out of the cupboard or are stuffed in a drawer.
Second thing, dosing washing machine liquid/powder. I'm never really sure if I'm using enough or too much, depending on the cycles, differing load sizes, etc
Figuring out what meals to prepare each day.

I have 2 citronella diffusers in the kitchen, and the CF's still just fly around in circles above them! 😡

Honestly the roll method for duvets is amazing for big duvets (we have a super king it's bloody massive and the winter one is heavy too!)

I have just tried this on my king size duvet. In the interests of research I timed myself. It took me 9 minutes. I don’t think it’s any faster than the ‘feed the top corners into the duvet into top corners of cover’ fight that I usually do, although it leaves my hair tidier as no crawling inside the cover.

There’s a certain amount off faff involved with the burrito method too. Turning the cover properly inside out, getting it flat on the bed, getting the duvet lined up.

Then my duvet, unlike the one in the video doesn’t have a full width hole at the end, so it was a bit of a fight to tuck in the ends.

Then the under sheet is all crump from where I have been crawling over the bed, so needs straightening and en the duvet on top needs straightening again.

Not ruling this method out yet, but it doesn’t appear to be the magic solution I hoped for.

Unfortunately, I don’t have bannister so can’t use that method.

Anything to do with cling film

Using a corkscrew to open a bottle of wine

Slicing and serving cake

Cleaning my teeth without foamy toothpaste all round my mouth

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 10/07/2023 10:31

Doing an underwear and sock wash - those MFers drive me insane, trainer socks that curl up like fortune cookies and need sorting 🤬

Filling the dishwasher with salt, why TF does the cap have to be all the way inside the damn thing and WHY does it seem to eat salt like there’s no tomorrow?

I honestly thought that was how everyone put their bra on (by doing it up at the back).

ThatFraggle · 10/07/2023 10:32

>I don't have a bannister so can't use that method.

I stand on the bed for the height needed.

RampantIvy · 10/07/2023 10:33

train stations and finding which platform to go to! 😅 It may be clear to most but not to me!.

@Proudcarerr I check on National Rail Enquiries Departure Boards or The Trainline on my phone as it also gives the platform numbers on there. It is especially useful if I have to change trains as it gives the arrival and dearture platforms which is especially useful if I only have a short connection time.

Thank you! I have huge anxiety when it comes to trains. I don't have to use them in my everyday life. I feel so stupid I find it so hard to navigate!!

DrCoconut · 10/07/2023 10:38

@PurplePolkaDot1 I'm with you there. I'm recovering from a hideous glutening at a work do, the food was supplied as gluten free and the company said it was prepared separately 😫

RampantIvy · 10/07/2023 10:42

Nonsense. I am not in the least bit hypermobile and I can do my bra up at the back.
