I'll kick it off with:-

Putting your bra on after a shower - I always put it on back to front and twist it round the right way. I need to apply WD40 to my back and chest as it just won't twist!!

Getting the damned duvet into the damned duvet cover!! Makes me 🤬 every time!!

How about you??

Peeling a boiled egg without half of the egg coming with the shell

Allegedly if you gently tap each egg with a spoon before boiling until you hear a popping noise it makes them easier to peel, actually seems to work but be gentle so you dont smash the egg, also rinse immediately in cold water. Also saw on insta someone putting egg in a cup covering with a hand and gently shaking to crush the shell before peeling.

Getting through to a human to discuss an issue that NO can't be resolved by your website. I've jumped through assorted hoops to get as far as the On Hold music, so repeatedly stopping the music to tell me a) how important my call is to you (ie not at all) and b) to suggest I check the website, will only cause rage! Don't they realise that every time the music stops we're alerted for conversation, only for anther recorded message? Just playing the music would be less annoying? Guess who spent over an hour today listening to HMRC's jazz guitar....

Getting served decent coffee. I don't need espresso or anything particularly fancy but I'd rather have a glass of water than instant. Sorry but it's just bitter brown liquid - not coffee. Tea drinkers don't have these problems, in the UK at least.

[I didn't realise till I came on here that grown women did their bras up at the front & then swiveled them round! Am theorising we copy our Mums in this & she can still do it up behind at 76.]

I have spent the afternoon trying to get through to HMRC. Got cut off the first time and the second time after waiting 45 mins on hold the person told me I need to go on the website. I told them I can’t get what I need on the website so they just cut me off again. Clearly my tax doesn’t matter that much to them…

HMRC are a nightmare aren't they.
Surprisingly, I needed to contact British Gas today. Getting to chat to a real person online was easy, then they gave me a phone number where I only had to wait a short while before I spoke to an actual person who was very helpful!

My latest whinge is why is getting a mobile phone number ported across to a new provider such a PITA?

@3GuineaPigs , re tying bows and shoelaces, honestly, google the ted talk on the correct way to tie shoes. It's brief, informative and funny.

Getting anybody to pick up the damn phone! Banks, utilities, colleagues, anyone. Just pick up the damn phone! What's wrong with you? And don't get me started on 'your call is really important to us'.

This- it’s so much more efficient than endless messaging. No doubt it’ll come back into fashion soon and the youngsters will pretend they invented it.

Apparently this is because the egg is too cold relative to the water when it goes in so keep eggs out of the fridge and/ or start them off in cold, not boiling water.

Keeping baking trays clean. I just throw them away now!

I bought some reusable baking sheets and use these on the baking trays for everything now.

Deathraystare · 12/07/2023 11:26

@KylieKangaroo

Yeah I was going to mention the baking liner sheets. From Lakeland or even (not so good quality) Poundland or Wilco.

Nannyfannybanny · 12/07/2023 12:21

Be careful with the re usable baking sheets. I had one from Lakeland,it had temperature, you could use up to,I'll be honest, I forgot, oven was a few degrees over. It was smoking, horrible burning smell, and I'm imagining would have caught fire.

CrotchetyQuaver · 12/07/2023 12:28

Phoning government agencies, banks or utility companies, it's a massive chore you're best to allow an hour per call for and consider it a bonus if it takes less.

Try the silicone mats rather than reusable baking sheets, they are fine at even extremely hot temps.
